2 Contractor Insights Monitor Research factsheet Research objective To provide manufacturers of construction products with a profound understanding of the European contractor (who is the contractor, what does he do and how does he behave) and main trends on the construction market. These insights are provided for all major construction elements, such as facade, insulation, roofing, interior (ceiling, flooring & walls), raw construction materials (concrete, wood & steel), chemicals (additives, resins, sealing, bonding etc.) and elevators / escalators / automatic doors. Furthermore, economic developments, branding and the decision-making authority of the contractor are investigated. 3 Contractor Insights Monitor Annual multi-client study, providing multi-country insights in a cost-efficient way The domain of the contractor Contractor Insights Monitor Reliable and comparable results Traditionally the contractor is involved in constructing an object, but he has become more and more the focus point, including design and engineering, but also in the maintenance and exploitation of an object. This impact is seen in nonresidential markets, but residential markets offer opportunities for a contractor as well. The contractor is the pioneer who maps out the future path for construction overall, and all individual elements that make up for this. For manufacturers of building material, it is crucial to be fully informed about the domain in which the contractor breaths, thinks and operates. Not only in the field of newbuild, but also in (big) renovation projects. This newly set-up multi-client monitor by USP Marketing will, for the first time, provide the insights required to understand this professional in a profound way. Over the past 25 years, USP Marketing has researched the contractors on almost every third project, always on behalf of (exclusive) requests of manufacturers. As such, we have the required experience and research network to get contractors to discuss their professional work. This expertise and network will now be called upon to conduct the multi-client Contractor Insights Monitor. This monitor will provide key information on the profile of the contractor: Who is the contractor? What kind of projects is he involved in? What are his core activities? How does he behave? These insights are provided for all major construction elements, such as facades, roofs, insulation, interior products (walls, ceilings, floors), raw materials, chemicals and elevators, escalators and automatic doors. Furthermore, use of prefab and BIM, the DMU, and purchase channels of the contractor are investigated. The Contractor Insights Monitor will provide you with need-to-know information against relatively low costs. The Contractor Insights Monitor will be conducted in the main 8 European countries, where contractors are considered to be pioneering most (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, U.K., Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland). We apply one methodology and one questionnaire in all countries, providing for highly reliable and cross-country comparable results. By interviewing 1,325 contractors (directors, senior project leaders) in these 8 markets, we will provide key insights that help our clients to understand the core business and behaviour of the contractors. 3

4 Contractor Insights Monitor What are we going to cover Profiling the European contractor For the purpose of this monitor we will investigate the general contractor: He who is involved in both residential and nonresidential construction projects and is working for a midsized (5 to 15 FTE) or large (15+ FTE) building company. The main focus of the Contractor Insights Monitor will be to thoroughly map out who is the general contractor and to monitor the economic developments of the European construction companies. In addition, each edition will cover a theme chapter. In the first wave, we will investigate the development of prefabrication/ conceptual and modular building. The usage of BIM and all its possibilities and implications will be covered in the second wave of 2018 monitor. For 2019 we have planned to investigate the purchase channels of contractors as well as the decision making process / customer journey (DMU). As such, buying the Contractor Insights Monitor will provide you with the market insights to develop a profound marketing and communication approach for this target group. Product categories Facade Insulation Roofing Tracking the contractors developments Company developments of the contractors in Europe: order book turnover. Upcoming theme topics (clients can give input for the questionnaire) First half of 2018: Purchase Channels Second half of 2018: Prefabrication, conceptual and modular building First half of 2019: Building Information Modelling Second half of 2019: Decision Making Unit Interior (ceiling, flooring & walls) Raw materials (concrete, wood & steel) Chemicals Elevators / Escalators / Automatic doors 4

5 Contractor Insights Monitor Planning and costs This research will be conducted in a multi-client format, meaning that everybody who is interested in the results can purchase a report. This way the report can be offered at a relatively low cost compared to exclusive research. The research will be conducted 2 times per year among a representative sample of contractors in 8 European countries, which ensures reliable results on which decisions can be made. The cost of one report is 9,000. For this price you are provided with insights in all 8 European countries once per year. The cost for two reports is 14,000. Subscription for two reports a year (at least 2-year-subscription): 12,500 Alignment questionnaire First report ready Alignment questionnaire Second report ready 2018 January February March April May Jun July August September October November December 2019 Telephone fieldwork among 1,325 contractors (8 countries) Telephone fieldwork among 1,325 contractors (8 countries) First wave Second wave 5
