2 Introduction The information in this document has been compiled from Technical Bulletins and people with many years of experience in the industry. It is designed to be an aid to determine the best product for each individual application, and to achieve the best result. As many conditions are variable and beyond the control of the manufacturer (ambient temperature, humidity levels, porosity of the substrate, times between laying, coating & re-coating etc) the following procedures should always be recommended to the customer. Read all documentation relating to the product FIRST! Follow all instructions as directed. I.e. 4 hours is 4 hours! ALWAYS carry out a small trial to test suitability in an inconspicuous area or unused test tile. DO NOT USE A ROLLER. 4 SANDSTONE, LIMESTONE CONCRETE AND CLAY PAVER SEALERS Advantage Penetrating Sealer for Dense Stone Solvent Based Penetrating Sealer. Suitable for porcelain, granite, dense limestone & vitrified tiles. Should not change the appearance of the stone. Applicable for internal and external use. Perfect to protect granite bench tops. 2 coats required (2 hours min between coats). Lightly buff with cloth the following day. A small amount of sealer may assist this process. Used as pre seal for pavers to assist cleanup of grout smears and building trade dirt. Should not change appearance. Good for areas where very low or no post laying traffic occurs. Ideal for split face block walls, limestone and brick. On vertical surfaces stops fungal growth for up to 4 years. NOT SUITABLE FOR POOL AREAS. IMPORTANT - 1 coat application only. 6 SANDSTONE, LIMESTONE CONCRETE AND CLAY PAVER SEALERS Defend Penetrating Invisible Breathable Consolidator Defend is not a sealer. Defend Hardens and binds the surface of porous and friable stone. Particularly useful for sandstone and limestone. Especially necessary around swimming pools to prevent salt attack. Dip seal all coping pavers with defend. Seal with pinnacle ensuring all coping surfaces are sealed. See illustration page 46 for evidence of salt attack. Copyright 2010 Environex International 6

Suitable for most porous surfaces ie. Natural split sandstone pavers and slate. Not suitable for wet cast and/or dense pavers or honed stone. Applicable for internal /external surfaces. Gives good protection against wear & staining. Minimum of 2 to 3 coats, allow 8 hours drying time between coats. Highlights natural colours and textures. DO NOT USE ROLLER etc... Not suitable for dense wet cast pavers or honed stone. Highlights natural colours and textures. Applicable for internal /external surfaces. Excellent protection against wear & staining. Minimum of 1 to 2 thin coats, allow 8 hours drying time between coats. DO NOT USE ROLLER etc... NOT SUITABLE FOR POOL AREAS. 9 SANDSTONE, LIMESTONE CONCRETE AND CLAY PAVER SEALERS Hi Lite Semi Penetrating Sealer Specially designed to highlight the colours of darker pavers (eg charcoal and terracotta). Not suitable for reconstituted limestone, Basalt ( honed ) or dense wet cast pavers. Combines the benefits of a penetrating sealer with a wet look colour highlighting effect without the gloss. On most surfaces the slip factor will change minimally. Test First. Suitable for most concrete pavers and dull stone. May not be suitable for wet cast pavers must trial first. Should not change appearance however may do on some stone or pavers. Suitable for masonry, paving, granite, sandstone, marble, vitrified semi-porous surfaces, limestone and swimming pool surrounds. Gives good protection against staining eg coffee, wine, grease -- 5 year guarantee Internal/external use. 2 even coats required (Do not use Roller etc) (2 hours between and at 90º to each other) ALWAYS carry out a small trial to test suitability in an inconspicuous area or unused test tile. Suitable for most porous surfaces ie. concrete or clay pavers, sandstone, limestone, granite, travertine or re constituted products. Creates invisible seal to protect against most common household spills (may slightly darken some surfaces). Minimum 2 even coats required (Min 2 hours between coats). Internal/external use. Suitable for sandstone pavers, quartzite, slate and unglazed quarry tiles. Internal/external use. 2 coats required. Can be over coated using Endure to give high gloss without the wet look. Penetrating sealer should not change appearance (may slightly darken some surfaces). Suitable for masonry, paving, granite, sandstone, marble, ceramic & vitrified semi-porous surfaces, polished limestone and swimming pool surrounds. Internal/external use. 2-3 coats required, 2 hours between coats. Do not use roller etc. ALWAYS carry out a small trial to test suitability in an inconspicuous area or unused test tile. Suitable for most porous surfaces such as concrete and clay pavers, reconstituted products, sandstone, etc. Some darkening may occur. 2-3 coats required. Internal and external use. Protects against common household spills. Do not use a roller etc. NOT SUITABLE FOR POOL AREAS. ALWAYS carry out a small trial to test suitability in an inconspicuous area or unused test tile. 15 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS Amaze Acid based heavy duty detergent for the removal of grout, cement smears and stains from slate, terracotta & glazed ceramic surfaces prior to sealing. 16 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS Anti Eff (Efflorescence) Speciality acidic cleaner based on phosphoric acid & nitric acid for the removal of efflorescence, cement haze & smears. Does not contain hydrochloric or sulphuric acids which may contribute to discolouration and efflorescence. 17 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS Ban Rust Rust Stain Remover Acidic Cleaning Agent. Easily and rapidly converts brown rust/bore stains allowing complete removal from most masonry surfaces. Also applicable to removing rust from fibreglass in the marine industry. Copyright 2010 Environex International 17

19 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS Green Devil Speciality acidic detergent with a variety of uses, but is particularly useful in cleaning terracotta or sandstone prior to sealing where the surface has been marked or is heavily soiled. IMPORTANT: Do not use on concrete products. Refer to Technical Bulletin and Material Safety Data Sheet for usage and safety data. Correct Personal Protective Equipment must be worn to ensure safety. 20 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS HD Cleaner Speciality heavy duty alkaline water based cleaner. Formulated for removal of heavy grease & soil deposits encountered in kitchens, food preparation areas, plant, machinery & workshops. May have an adverse effect on sealer test first or use Refresh. 23 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS Refresh Light duty detergent concentrate for cleaning and maintaining sealed floors. Will not effect the gloss on sealed floors. 24 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS S21 Multi Purpose Cleaner Light duty all purpose concentrate for cleaning and maintaining heavily soiled floors. Will not effect the gloss on sealed floors. Can be used as a pre clean prior to sealing. If used prior to sealing the area must be 100% dry before sealing commences ( 12 to 24 hours ). Copyright 2010 Environex International 24

26 CLEANERS & STRIPPERS Vanish Sandstone Cleaner Two pack bleach cleaner for natural stone esp. sandstone. Will remove transition metal colour bodies from siliceous surfaces. Do not use on man made pavers. Surfaces must be neutralised after application. MUST carry out a small trial to test suitability in an inconspicuous area or unused test tile. 31 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Initial Sealing 1! STONE SEAL has remained white & milky or has turned into white powder several hours after application. Pavers have been too wet or too cold to allow proper curing. Light spray with coalescent cyclone or ethyl acetate. Copyright 2010 Environex International 31

32 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Initial Sealing 2! Endure/HD sealer has turned white after several hours after application. Too much moisture present in pavers or grout at time of application. Depending on the level of whiteness either: A. Extreme whiteness strip floor with Cyclone, ensure complete drying then re seal. B. Mild cases simply solvent wash with Cyclone using brush and re seal with Endure. Copyright 2010 Environex International 32

33 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Initial Sealing 3! Surface has remained dull after initial application of Endure/HD. Pavers are excessively porous and sealer has absorbed excessively into surface preventing formation of a gloss finish on tiles. Apply extra coat of Endure/HD until even finish is achieved. 34 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Initial Sealing 4! Inconsistent/uneven finish on pavers (patchy). Some pavers are more porous than others resulting in inconsistent appearance. Apply extra coats of sealer until a consistent appearance is achieved. Copyright 2010 Environex International 34

35 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Initial Sealing 5! Sealer has dried, but blotches have appeared. Substances unknown have been left on floor prior to sealing causing blotches / blemishes or staining to be highlighted by sealer. Strip back blemish areas with Cyclone and re-seal. Apply an overall coat of sealer to achieve an even finish. Copyright 2010 Environex International 35

36 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Initial Sealing 6! Endure/HD has left visible white streaks on pavers. Moisture present on pavers or applicator. Re-seal with Endure and streaks should disappear. Extreme cases may require strip and reseal Copyright 2010 Environex International 36

37 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Maintenance 1! White patches appearing in sealer. Cleaning with solvent based cleaners, methylated spirits, spills or splashes from window cleaners, nail polish remover, strong detergents or lanolin deposits from household pet hair. Solvent wash affected area with Cyclone and reseal NB : In extreme cases of solvent spill, the floor or affected area may have to be stripped using Cyclone and resealed. 38 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Maintenance 2! Scratches appearing in sealer. Heavy traffic, movement of furniture etc. causing scratching or the most common cause is delamination from the pavers under the sealer creating what appears to be scuff marks. Simply wash with Cyclone or in extreme cases re- seal the pavers with Endure. NB Any deep gouging etc. may require the area to be solvent washed with Cyclone prior to re- sealing. 41 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Maintenance 5! After many years of applying sealer, the pavers have lost their colour, appears glassy. Too much sealer has built up on pavers over time. Strip with Cyclone and re- seal with Endure colours will return and pavers will take on a freshly sealed appearance. Copyright 2010 Environex International 41

42 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Re - sealing 1! After re - sealing with Endure/HD the pavers have remained streaky with dull patches and shiny patches. Residual alkaline detergents or some other contaminant have repelled the Endure in some areas Solvent wash with Cyclone rubbing pavers vigorously with Cyclone soaked rags. Re- seal with Endure/HD.
