1 1/5 1.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum requirements for design, material and construction requirements for Expansion tanks. Ensure the design and fabrication of equipment and associated components conform to the practices outlined in editions and supplements of latest standards, codes and regulations. In case of conflict, Vale shall furnish a written interpretation..0 DEVIATIONS FROM SPECIFICATIONS Bids for alternative components or equipment, in whole or in part for the unit specified, are permitted where it is considered that savings in capital, or operating costs, or improvement in service is obtained by deviating from this specification. Alternatives shall be clearly identified as such in the quotation form. Regardless of any alternative pricing provided, a quotation for the items specified herein shall be provided. 3.0 DOCUMENT SUBMITTALS With Quotation: Completed bid forms Completed Expansion tank data sheet (T-37003) Generic general arrangement drawing of Expansion tank showing dimensions, capacity, nozzle schedule, mounting details, and foundation requirements Complete material specifications for shell, head, and appurtances Complete description of quality assurance, quality control and testing programs. Number of modules in which goods would be delivered and their weight, overall dimensions, method of assembly, preferred shipping method and special shipping, storage, and handling requirements Following Placement of Order and Prior to Fabrication: General arrangement drawing of Expansion tank showing dimensions, capacity, shell and head thickness, pressure / temperature rating, nozzle schedule, mounting details, and foundation requirements submitted to Vale for comments Design brief Inspection and Test Plan submitted to Vale for comments Upon Completion of Fabrication: Manufacturer s Data Report TSSA stamped Canadian Registration Number documentation Signed off Inspection and Test Plan Signed off Non-Conformances Fabrication drawing in for archiving in Vale s drawing management system in accordance with SPEC-0801 listing vessel shell and head thickness nominal and used.

2 /5 Design Briefs Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Report(s) Pressure Test Report Material Test Reports Maintenance and installation manual in.pdf format (if applicable) Operation manual in.pdf format (if applicable) 4.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE The manufacturer shall have a valid TSSA Certificate of Authorization for Pressure Vessel Manufacturing or an ASME Pressure Vessel Manufacturing U stamp. Manufacturers and their welding contractors shall conform to requirements listed in CSA B51, O.Reg 0/01, and ASME IX. Manufacturers and their Non-Destructive Examination Contractors shall conform to ASME V. An Inspection and Test Plan is a document identifying the items of materials and work to be inspected or tested, by whom and at what stage or frequency, as well as Hold and Witness Points, references to relevant standards, acceptance criteria and the records to be maintained. See Document Submittals section. Non-Conformances shall be brought up to Vale within 4 hours of discovery. 5.0 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION 5.1 GENERAL Nameplate shall list at minimum: MAWP, Design Temperature, year of manufacture, shell material & nominal thickness, head material & nominal thickness, CRN, serial number, manufacturer name. Provide Expansion tank with necessary lifting lugs and anchor holes for ease of installation. 5. VALVES Relief valve and drain valve shall be provided by others. 5.3 SHELL HEAD AND NOZZLE REQUIREMENTS Expansion tank design shall conform to CSA B51 and ASME VIII Div 1 and ASME B31.1. Carbon steel shall be used for shell, head, and nozzles. Shell and head shall be designed for 1/16 corrosion allowance. Pipe flanges and flanged fittings shall conform to ASME B16.5

3 3/5 5.4 MATERIAL PROTECTION Expansion tank shall be painted to in accordance to SPEC Table 1 Inherent Low Hazard and SPEC All insulated tanks shall conform to SPEC ensuring the nameplate is visible. Tanks that are to be insulated shall be painted prior to insulation. 5.5 BLADDER Bladder type expansion tanks shall employ a heavy industrial butyl rubber, removable for inspection, maintenance, and replacement. 5.6 TESTING & INSPECTION Expansion tank shall be pressure tested, examined, and inspected in accordance to ASME VIII Div PACKAGING & SHIPPING Vacuum internal of Expansion tank prior to packaging. Provide suitable materials and equipment to eliminate damage to goods during packaging, shipment, and storage including: cover machined surfaces with a rust prohibitor that can easily be removed on site, cover openings (e.g. flanges) with suitable closures. 5.8 INSTALLATION, START-UP AND COMMISSIONIING Installation, start-up and commissioning of Expansion tank shall be completed by others. 5.9 TRAINING Maintenance and operations manuals shall be submitted as detailed in Document Submittals section as required.
