2 Architectural Commission Report 443 North Rodeo Drive (Bijan) August 15, 2018 Awning Signage NORTH RODEO DRIVE Location Size Quantity Illumination Material N. Rodeo Drive 7 3 Non-illuminated Vinyl lettering on awning fabric TOTAL SIGN AREA: (3 SIGNS) Pursuant to BHMC , one horizontal line of letters and symbols that does not exceed seven inches (0-7 ) in height, which identifies the name and occupation of the tenant or owner, may be fixed to the awning valence. The proposal also includes an awning sign over the parking exit that is not attached to an abutting ground floor business wall. Awning signage may be attached on walls along the first story tenant lease area which abut a business lease wall. As such, the proposed parking exit awning sign shall be removed to meet standards set forth in the BHMC. Construction Barricade Graphic One tenant-specific business identification sign (12 square-feet) located on the primary construction barricade elevation; Business identification signage (six square feet) for adjacent tenants located on each construction barricade return. Pursuant to Beverly Hills Municipal Code (BHMC) , construction barricades may include 12 square feet of signage that allows for the name of the business, a company logo, and the opening date of the business on that portion of the construction barricade parallel to the street. Each barricade return (that portion located perpendicular to the street) may include two square feet of such signage. There is no maximum size for a construction barricade graphic. As proposed, the construction barricade complies with the standards set forth in the BHMC. Each barricade return also includes six square feet of sign area allocated to adjacent tenants. The sign area for adjacent tenants complies with the Community Development Department s policy of requiring such signage to ensure that adjacent tenants maintain visibility during the construction phase. URBAN DESIGN ANALYSIS The proposal is to re-establish the façade at this iconic retailer s previous location at the new site (across North Rodeo Drive). The overall facade design is based on a stylized classicallyinspired Mediterranean architectural treatment. As the new site, overall, is more contemporary in nature, a more original contemporary design may be considered, while responding to the unique branding requirements of the occupant. The proposed project includes new business identification signage and new awnings with the company name. The final design iteration should comply with all building requirements, including any required parking entry signage for the vehicular access area, etc.
