3 PLUMBING WORK GENERAL A. The Plans, the general provisions of the Contract including the General, Supplementary and/or Special Conditions and specification sections of Division 1 shall apply to Work of Divisions 22 of the Specifications. B. Provisions and conditions cited in this Section shall apply to Work for other sections of Divisions 22 of these Specifications. C. Each plumbing fixture, accessory, equipment item and specialty shall be installed in accordance with the respective manufacturer's recommendations. D. Plumbing fixtures, equipment and specialties shall be protected against damage in the period between installation and acceptance. Any item damaged shall be removed, repaired and/or replaced at no additional compensation. E. All operable devices and features of plumbing fixtures, accessories, equipment and specialties provided for in the Scope of Work of this Section shall be operated and proved to function satisfactorily for a period of eight (8) hours. Adjust, balance, lubricate as required, and instruct the Owner in the proper operation and maintenance of each device REFERENCES, REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. Work for this Section of the Specifications shall be performed in accordance with the Codes, Standards, etc. as identified in Division RELATED SECTIONS OF THE SPECIFICATIONS The following sections of the Specifications apply to Work under this Section: 1. Division 20 - Basic Mechanical Conditions and Basic Mechanical Material and Methods 2. Division 25 - Temperature Control (for monitoring domestic water temperature) DEFINITIONS (none) WORK INCLUDED A. Furnish material, labor and services necessary for and incidental to providing the following Plumbing Work where shown on the Plans and as hereinafter specified. Include all necessary work in the related sections of the Specifications (Subsection ) to perform the Work completely. 1. Potable domestic water system, including but not limited to, campus water softener, backflow preventers, pressure regulators, water meter, cold water piping, and connection to all equipment or specialties. 2. Draining, filling, and venting of all modified systems as required for the above work. This includes scheduling shutdowns with the Owner. (Refer to Section ). 3. Provide sufficient labor and resources required to aid the testing and balancing (Refer to Section ) and the commissioning process (Refer to Section ). 4. Firestopping of all penetrations through fire rated walls. (Refer to Section ). 5. Cleaning and pressure testing equipment, piping, and accessories installed under this section of the specification. (Refer to Section ). MISSOURI S & T

4 6. Installing accessories specified under other sections of the specification referenced in subsection SUBMITTALS (SEE SUBSECTION ) A. The Subcontractor shall submit the following shop drawings for approval in accordance with the General and Special Conditions. The following list of submittals are required: Plumbing Fixtures, Plumbing Equipment and Plumbing Specialties. Plumbing Piping Materials may be submitted along with Hydronic Piping Materials SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A. Where lines installed under this section of the specification tie-in to existing lines Subcontractor shall verify all existing lines, their elevations and directions of flow before running any new lines. 1. Subcontractor shall notify Architect/Engineer upon discovery if the new line cannot tie-in to the existing line due to location, elevation, or direction of flow PLUMBING PIPING SYSTEMS A. General 1. Furnish and install the piping systems shown on the plans and as hereinafter specified in the respective PIPING MATERIAL SCHEDULE. Include all necessary considerations in the related sections of the Specifications (subsection ) to provide for complete systems. B. All domestic water lines shall be flushed clean at the completion of the Work. Refer to Section Cleaning of Piping Systems. C. Pressure test each respective piping system for tightness to the test pressure indicated without loss. Repair any leaks and retest, as required. If test pressure is not indicated, hydrostatically test to 1.5 times the system operating pressure. D. The Plans indicate the approximate location and arrangement of roughing-in for waste, vent and domestic water piping to serve the respective plumbing fixture, equipment and specialties. Final locations and arrangements shall be determined from approved shop drawings of the respective item. E. Provide approved backflow preventers in all branch lines in the domestic water system for connections to non-domestic applications PIPING MATERIAL SCHEDULE P-1 A. Service: Domestic water, above grade. Includes cold water (CW), and softened water (SW). B. Design: Pressure: 125 psig. Temperature: 90 degrees F. max. C. Pipe: (CONTRACTORS OPTION) Copper, hard drawn, seamless, type L. or- Schedule L Stainless Steel 1. Fittings: Copper: Wrought copper, solder ends. 316L: 316L SS buttweld flanged connection MISSOURI S & T

5 2. Dielectric Isolation flanges between fittings: at transistions of piping type or fitting material. D. Flanges: For copper piping: Cast bronze, 125 psi For stainless piping: 316L SS 125 psi E. 6 PLUMBING EQUIPMENT PACKAGED ZEOLITE WATER SOFTENER SKID A. General 1. Furnish and install packaged zeolite water softener as specified on plans and below. 2. All piping shall meet the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act requirements for lead content in potable water systems. 3. All skid piping and tanks shall be pressure tested to 100 PSIG for 2 hours and any leaks corrected before shipping. 4. Install softener skid on 3-1/2 housekeeping pad. See section for cast-in place concrete details. 5. Manufacturer shall provide resin as indicated on plans and support gravel. Installing contractor shall install resin and gravel per manufacter s specifcations. B. Tanks: a. Provide (4) ASME 100 PSI design rated 36 x 72 carbon steel zeolite tanks. Tanks to be internally sandblasted and coated with 2 part cold set epoxy a minimum of 10 mils thick. Epoxy shall be approved for use with potable water. Tanks are to be externally coated with 3-5 mils of safety blue epoxy.tank shall provide 75% freeboard area to provide adequeate zeolite separation in the backwash cycle. C. Exterior Piping: a. Type: Exterior piping shall be hard drawn seamless type L copper or 316L schedule 10 stainless steel. b. Raw water inlet and soft water outlet headers shall be 4 diameter. Individual tank face piping and valves shall be 3 diameter. c. Control valves to be bronze diaphragm type. d. Each tank shall have inlet/outlet butterfly isolation valves, inlet and outlet pressure gauges, and sampling valves. e. Provide 4 butterfly skid bypass valve. D. Interior Piping: E. Controls: a. All Interior piping including upper and lower distributors shall be schedule 80 PVC distribution header shall support minimum flow specified on schedule indefinitely without any reduction in capacity. a. Unit mounted control panel shall include Allen-Bradley Micrologix 100 PLC with panelview 600C touchscreen operator interface. Control system shall include MODBUS/Ethernet interface for BMS monitoring. Control interface and remote stagers shall be housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure. b. The operator shall be able to view the following from a unit mounted interface: 1. Totalized gallons of capacity remaining per tank. 2. Flow presets and delay 3. Cycle Times 4. 7 F. Start-Up G. Warranty c. The operator shall be able to lockout any tank for maintenance/service at system mounted control interface. The system staging shall allow the remaining tanks to operate without interruption. d. Each tank shall be provided with a signet model 2537 flow meter. e. Softener skid shall be capable of progressive flow. Control interface shall include a user adjustable flow rate to add value and delay to add value. These inputs shall enalble additional resin tanks as required. f. Skid controls shall include a manual regeneration at the user interface for maintenanance and troubleshooting. g. Softener skid shall be fitted with salt recovery valves. Control sequence shall include adjustable duration brine reclaimation stage. h. Pressure compensating hydraulic injectors and dilution valve shall maintain brine concentration and flow rate independent of pressure changes. a. Manufacturer is responsible for start-up of softener skid. A factory representative shall be onsite to verify and adjust flow rates, totalizer counts, software functionality, and softener capacity. The Manufacturerer shall provide two full days of start-up & training including any meal expenses, lodging, and transportation as part of the quoted system. 1. Manufacturer shall warranty softener for a period of 1 year from from substantial completion. H. Bench stock 1. Manufacturer shall provide (2) additional resin tank control valves shipped loose. I. Manufacturers 1. Softener Skid shall be Marlo MR Series or Culligan approved equal PACKAGED DOMESTIC BOOSTER PUMP SKID A. General 1. Furnish and install packaged domestic booster pump skid as specified on plans and below. 2. The pumping package shall be certified and approved by an independent testing and certification organization as being compliant with the requirements of NSF/ANSI 61 for potable drinking water and NSF-61 Annex G for low lead content. 3. Piping at pumps shall be arranged to facilitate pump maintenance. Piping shall be arranged so that the service valves can be closed and the piping and specialties between the service valves and pump removed for servicing and to allow clear access to the pump for removal as required. Where pump connection sizes are smaller than the line sizes associated with the suction and discharge piping, concentric reducers or increasers shall be installed immediately at the pump flanges to adapt to the indicated line size. All specialties and service valves associated with the pump such as strainers, check valves, etc., shall be line size, and not pump connection size. 4. Where pumps are from manufacturers not scheduled the following criteria shall apply: Pumps shall be picked at scheduled flow and head with working fluid of the system which the pump is in, pump impeller shall not be within ½ of the smallest or largest size for the MISSOURI S & T

8 pump body, pump efficiency shall not more than 5% less efficient than scheduled pump, operation point shall not exceed nameplate horsepower, pump motor size shall not be larger than scheduled motor (Contractor can pursue equipment substitution as required in Subsection for pumps with larger motors), pumps which are used in parallel installations shall be sized such that the brake horsepower does not exceed the motor horsepower when only one pump is running. This operating point shall not be off of the manufacturers published pump curve. 5. Following the completion of all piping connections, pump couplings and drives shall be systematically aligned using approved methods and instruments. Before putting the pumps into service, the alignment shall be approved by the Architect/Engineer. 6. Furnish and install triplex variable speed pumping skid including three multistage pumps, VFD s, pump controllers, Bacnet MSTP interface, pump isolation valves, pump check valves, suction and discharge header pressure gauges, suction and discharge pressure sensors, remote pressure sensor and valved tap for expansion tank outlet. 7. Pumps and skid piping shall be 304SS Schedule 10 construction. Suction and Discharge headers shall be 4 with grooved connections. 8. Pumping skid shall have (1) single point power connection. 9. Pump VFD s shall be Toshiba Q9 no exceptions. 10. Install skid on 3-1/2 housekeeping pad. See section for cast-in place concrete details. B. Motors 1. Provide open drip proof premium efficiency motors. C. Isolation Butterfly Valves 1. Pump and skid isolation valves shall be grooved butterfly type. 2. Valves shall be certified to NSF-61 for use with potable drinking water. 3. Valves shall be epoxy coated. 4. Valves shall be reated for 300 PSI. D. Isolation Ball Valves 1. All pressure sensors and gauges shall have service isolation ball valves. 2. Valves shall be certified to NSF-61 for use with potable drinking water. 3. Valves shall be reated for 300 PSI. 4. Valves shall be full port 2 piece design. E. Silent wafer check valves 1. Each pump shall have a wafer style check valve 2. Valve Interior and exterior shall be coated with an NAF/ANSI-61 certified fusion bonded epoxy. 3. Valve compression spring shall be 316 SS F. Installation 1. Mount pump skid on 3-1/2 housekeeping pad. See section for cast-in place concrete details. MISSOURI S & T

9 G. Approved Manufacturers: Pumps shall be Goulds 22020G, Grundfos MPC-E (CUE), or Armstrong H. Pump skid Manufacturer shall be Hyfab or approved equivelant STAINLESS STEEL END SUCTION BRINE PUMPS General 1. Piping at pumps shall be arranged to facilitate pump maintenance. Complete AISI 316L stainless steel liquid handling components and mounting bracket for corrosion resistance. 5. Mechanical seals include carbon versus silicon-carbide faces, viton elastomers and 316 stainless parts. 6. Install pumps on 3-1/2 housekeeping pad. See section for cast-in place concrete details. 7. Pumps shall be Goulds NPE or approved equal from Grundfoss or Armstrong PLUMBING SPECIALTIES A. General 1. Furnish and install the following plumbing specialties where shown on the Plans and as hereinafter specified. Include all necessary considerations in the related sections of the specifications (subsection ) and accessories to provide for complete installation and operation of the respective item. 10 BACKFLOW PREVENTER - REDUCED PRESSURE A. Furnish and install reduced pressure backflow preventer at water service entrance and at cross connection locations. B. Assembly shall include shut off valves, strainer, test cocks, and pressure relief valve with ASME A air-gap fitting located between two positive seating check valves. Construction shall be all bronze with quarter-turn, full port, resilient seated ball valve shut offs for sizes 2 and smaller. 2-1/2 and larger shall be bronze, cast-iron, steel or stainless steel body and interior coating according to AWWA C550 or FDA approved epoxy coating with OS&Y resilient seated gate valve shut offs. C. Discharge from air gap shall be piped to a floor drain. D. Backflow preventer shall be Watts 909, or Wilkins 375/375A PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE - PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE - (2-1/2 AND SMALLER) A. Pressure reducing valve adjustable from 3-50 PSI. Body shall be lead free brass. Valve to include outlet pressure gauge. 1. Watts LF26 or approved equal EXPANSION TANK A. Expansion tank shall be a steel hydro-pneumatic diaphragm type tank rated for a working pressure of 125 psig at 200 F. All internal wetted parts shall comply with FDA regulations and approvals. Capacity shall be as scheduled on the plans. B. Expansion tank shall be Amtrol Therm-X-Trol Model ST-210V or approved equal. END OF SECTION MISSOURI S & T
