2 The Masonry Industry Here to Help, Here to Provide It has been estimated that 85% of the world s population lives in, or works in masonry buildings We want those buildings to perform! To keep occupants, safe, comfortable, and happy In 2014, it was estimated that $23 Billion of Masonry was Constructed in the U.S. and Over 500,000 People were Employed by the masonry industry Our goal is to make a good thing even better

For books for your students, Some local masonry groups and producers can order books for students at discounted prices Others will help pay a portion of the books for students Others may buy the books and donate them to the students TMS also offers some desk copies and student discounts Electronic Student Memberships available

9 Masonry Materials for the Classroom or for Research Projects Again, producers and local masonry promotional groups are often willing to help: May provide the materials and or labor at discounted prices (often at no cost) Great as sounding boards. The producers and contractors often have key insight and great ideas on how things are done practically in the field, which helps in planning research projects

10 Plant Tours and Site Visits! Manufacturing Plants and Job Sites are often open for tours for students Great way to see, learn, & gain contacts

12 Faculty Research Grants We know this is very important, and are looking for ways to offer assistance Always start local & be mindful of industry needs The national/international groups want to know that the proposed work is supported, practical, and how it could enhance their markets Non-industry groups such as NIST continues to fund projects, but are much more restrictive Ideas?

13 Masonry Research & Student Support NCMA Foundation Working to advance and support the concrete masonry and hardscape industry and the public interest through research and educational programs designed to meet the future needs of the industry. PCA Fellowships on Concrete and Masonry TMS James L. Noland Student Fellowship $3000, for Master s Students or Doctoral Candidates TMS Clayford T. Grimm Scholarship $1000 annually, targeted towards Master s Level Students Local Scholarships Other
