4 The 2014 ABC Part 9.7 requires that windows and doors be installed as per the CSA 440 Standard This standard deals with residential and light commercial installations in low rise buildings 4

5 There are 2 partsin the document. The Standard and the Annexes The Standard is Mandatory but the Annexes are not 5

6 SCOPE of CSA 440 Applies to NEW& REPLACEMENT Assumes you know ABC Requirements Standard deals with ALL window types although in Alberta the primary type is flanged DOES NOT address skill or workmanship DOES NOT apply to picking window types NOT a technical How to or Best Practice CLIMATIC EXPOSURE Standard references 3 main levels of exposure Low or Non Moderate High Clause Sub-sill drainage shall be installed under windows and doors with moderate -to high exposure rating (see Annex A); or 6

19 AIR LEAKAGE CONTROL Clause 8 the amount of moisture moved into a wall or roof resulting from vapour diffusion is far less than that moved resulting from air leakage. 22 AIR LEAKAGE CONTROL Clause 8 Rules for foam (1) Foam shall not be used to eliminate shims. (2) Foam shall not be used to eliminate fasteners. (3) Foam shall not be used as a backer rod. (4) Foam shall not be in contact with sealants or allowed to contaminate surfaces where sealants will be applied. (5) One component foam shall not be injected into closed frame cavities. 23 PRECIPITATIONCONTROL Clause 10 Principles of Clause 10 minimize the entry of water into the wall cavity and/or the rough opening gap for windows and doors prevent the entry of water into the wall cavity below the waterproof membrane or primary water-shedding materials. PRECIPITATIONCONTROL Clause 10 Connection of unit to wall/roof assembly Allows for water ingress and drainage around the RO Applies the code references of FIRST and SECOND planes of protection - Good understanding of this principle. Same flashing rules as ABC Door sill installation requires 2- beads of sealant Exterior joints sealed to minimize entry Employs the ¼ soffit rule 23
