1 WATSON ROAD FACILITY PAGE 1 OF 6 PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 Description The work covered by this Section includes all labour, materials, equipment, and supervision necessary to complete the site services as shown on the drawings and as specified herein, including the following:.1 Supply and installation of sewer piping..2 Supply and installation of conduit..3 Supply and installation of manholes, catchbasin manholes, grade ring, frames and covers..4 Install storage tanks as shown on drawings..5 Connect into existing storm sewer as noted on the drawings. 1.2 Related Work Specified Elsewhere.1 Foundations 1.3 Reference Standards.1 Ontario Provincial Standards Specifications OPSS Construction of manholes, catch basins, ditch inlets and valve chambers. Drop Structure Wye. 1.4 Delivery, Storage and Handling.1 Delivery (a) Replace Products found to be defective in manufacture or damaged in handling after delivery including the supplying of products and the labour required for the replacement of installed products found to be defective..2 Handling (a) Load and unload products so as to avoid shock or damage..3 Storage (a) Place products in safe storage. Keep interiors of pipes, and fittings clean. 1.5 Protection.1 Conform to OPSS 504 for the preservation and protection of existing facilities..2 Size, depth and location of existing utilities and structures as indicated on the drawings are for guidance only. Completeness and accuracy are not guaranteed..3 Prior to the installation of any pipe, confirm location of all existing utilities..4 Maintain and protect from damage all utilities encountered..5 Where possible, do not disturb adjacent items which are to remain in place..6 The Contractor shall exercise caution when working beneath overhead services and shall be responsible for any damages to them or the supporting structures..7 Provide and maintain all legal and accessory guard railings, hoardings and lights to fully protect all persons and from loss or injury during the execution of the contract. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 Storm Sewer Piping (575mm dia. and Less).1 All pipes shall be IPEX Ring-Tite PVC, D.R. 35 complete with fittings in accordance with CSA B18202.

3 WATSON ROAD FACILITY PAGE 3 OF Manholes and Catch Basin Manholes.1 Unless noted otherwise on the drawings, all manholes shall be 1200mm dia precast reinforced concrete in conformance with OPSS Concrete shall be sulphate resistant and have a strength of 27.6 MPA..2 Steps shall be 19mm diameter galvanized metal placed at 300mm centers..3 Provide precast flat caps where required..4 Provide precast grade rings to bring the manholes or catch basin manholes up to the required elevations..5 Manhole frame and cover shall be Canada Iron No. 607, 600mm dia cast iron frame with removable cover..6 STC (oil and sediment interceptor) as noted on the drawings..7 Catch basin manhole frame and cover shall be Canadian Iron No. 568, 600 mm square cast iron frame with removable dished grate. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 Schedule.1 The Contractor shall make note of the phased installation of the underground services. 3.2 Excavation of Trenches.1 Dig the trenches to the alignment and depth required and only so far in advance of pipe laying as it can be backfilled in the same day..2 The width of the trenches up to a point 300mm above the top of pipe shall be 760mm..3 The width of the trench at ground level is not to be less than the width at any depth in the trench..4 Where trench excavations are not kept within the design limits of the pipe, the Consultant may order a higher class of bedding..5 Shore and brace excavations in accordance with the Trench Excavator's Act.

4 WATSON ROAD FACILITY PAGE 4 OF Disposal.1 Dispose of excavated materials on-site where noted on the drawings. Do not stockpile any debris at the job site for any period of time. 3.4 Preparation of Trench Bottom.1 The trench bottom shall be prepared by digging at least 150mm deeper than the final pipe grade..2 The trench bottom shall be brought up to grade with 19mm crusher run limestone materials thoroughly compacted in layers not exceeding 200mm..3 When levelling the granular materials, make sure that coupling holes left are deep enough to provide a minimum clearance of 50mm below the coupling. This allows for tamping beneath the coupling and assures that the pipe is being supported along its full length..4 Conditions in the trench shall be such that pipe jointing can be accomplished without mud, stone or other debris entering the joint or the pipe. In general, this means that the trench shall be adequately dewatered. 3.5 Dewatering.1 Conform to OPSS 517 for dewatering..2 Keep excavation free of water while Work is in progress..3 Protect open excavations against flooding and damage due to run-off..4 Dispose of water in a manner not detrimental to any portion of work completed or under construction. 3.6 Installation.1 Provide and install the site services as shown on the drawings to the following standards: (a) Sewers to OPSS 410 and 514. (b) Manholes to OPSS 407 and Pipes and fittings, before being lowered into the trench, shall be thoroughly cleansed of all mud, stones or other debris which may have accumulated in or on the pipes and fittings.

5 WATSON ROAD FACILITY PAGE 5 OF 6.3 The pipes and fittings shall be carefully examined for any damage or defects. No damaged or defective pipe or fitting shall be used in the Work..4 Pipe shall be lowered singly into the trench, made to rest firmly throughout their length on the trench bottom, and shall be properly fitted into the previous laid pipe..5 Pipe shall be laid and all joints made in a manner approved by the Consultant and as recommended by the manufacturer of the material..6 Cutting of pipes which may be required, shall be done by this Contractor so as to bring all fittings or valves to the proper location..7 Open ends shall be plugged when work is stopped to prevent stones and foreign materials from entering the pipes..8 Provide watertight connections to manholes, catchbasins and catchbasin manholes. Use shrinkage compensating grout when suitable gaskets are not available..9 Support connections as per OPSD Installation of Storage Tanks.1 Install storage tanks as shown on drawings and according to suppliers specifications as provided. 3.8 Initial Backfilling.1 Initial backfilling under and along the pipes and fittings shall be done once a joint has been made..2 Place granular materials under the pipes and fittings and tamp it solidly so that a firm continuous support is ensured..3 Place the next layer of granular materials up to the horizontal centerline of the pipe. This layer shall be fully compacted using hand tampers properly shaped to fill all voids under the pipes and fittings..4 Continue filling and tamping in 100mm layers until the pipe has been covered by at least 300mm of well compacted granular materials..5 Do not use mechanical tampers over the top of the pipe where cover is less than 300mm.

6 WATSON ROAD FACILITY PAGE 6 OF 6.6 Compact all granular materials to 95% Standard Proctor Maximum Dry Density (S.P.M.D.D.). 3.9 Final Backfilling.1 Do not commence final backfilling until the Consultant is satisfied that the granular materials have been well tamped..2 The first 300mm of final backfilling shall be done by hand with granular materials and shall be well compacted by tamping with suitable tools..3 The remainder of the trenches may be backfilled by machine with materials free from stones or rubbish, compacted to 100% S.P.M.D.D. This shall be done in layers not exceeding 200mm..4 Any settlement of the restored areas during the next winter shall be made good by this contractor in the following spring Cleaning and Inspection of Storm Sewers.1 Power flush and clean sewers and catch basins prior to acceptance..2 Video inspect all sewers and laterals and repair leaks prior to top asphalt or landscaping. A copy of the videos shall be submitted to the Consultant not later than three weeks prior to top asphalt. End of
