1 CHAIN LINK FENCES AND GATES SECTION 1 GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY This Section includes the following: 1. Chain Link Fences 2. Gates for Chain Link Fences. See electrical specifications for electrical service and connections for motor operators, controls, limit and disconnect switches, and safety features and for system disconnect switches. 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data shall be provided for each type of product indicated. B. Shop Drawings shall include fence locations, components, materials, dimensions, sizes, weights, and finishes of components. Include plans, gate elevations, sections, details of post anchorage, attachment, bracing, and other required installation and operational clearances. C. If Gate Operator is required shop drawings shall include locations and details for installing operator components, switches, and controls. Indicate motor size, electrical characteristics, drive arrangement, mounting, and grounding provisions. D. Maintenance Data shall submitted for fence, fence gates, and gate operator (if required). 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories shall be listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, Article 100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use. B. Gate operators shall comply with UL 325. C. Emergency Access Requirements shall comply with requirements of authorities having jurisdiction for all gates and automatic gate operators serving as a required means of access. SECTION 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 CHAIN LINK FENCE FABRIC A. General: 1. Height and other dimensions for the fencing are shown on the drawings and in the Standard Details for Chain Link Fencing. 2 B. Fence Fabric shall comply with the following: 2.2 FENCE FRAMING 1. ASTM A 392, CLFMI CLF 2445, and requirements indicated below: 2. Steel Wire Fence Fabric shall be: a. Coated wire with a diameter of inch or 9 Gauge. b. 2 inch diamond mesh fence fabric c. Coating for fence fabric shall be as follows (see drawings for type of coating required): 1) Aluminum Coating shall meet the requirements of ASTM A491, Type I. 2) Metallic (Zinc) Coating shall meet the requirements of ASTM A392, Type II. 3) Polymer Coating shall meet the requirements of ASTM F 668, Class 2b over metallic coated steel wire. Color shall be black complying with ASTM F Selvage shall be knuckled at both selvages. A. Posts and Rails shall comply with the following: 4. ASTM F 1043 for framing and ASTM F 1083 for Group IC round pipe 5. Fence Height shall be as shown on the drawings and the Standard Details. 6. Strength Requirement shall be as required for light industrial according to ASTM F Horizontal Slide Gate Posts shall be Class 1 and shall meet the requirements of ASTM F Coating for Steel Framing shall be (as specified on the drawings): a. Metallic (Zinc) Coating shall meet the requirements of ASTM A392, Type II. b. Polymer Coating shall meet the requirements of ASTM F 668, Class 2b over metallic coated posts and rails. 3 2.3 TENSION WIRE A. Horizontal tension wire shall be provided at bottom of fence fabric. B. Horizontal tension wire shall be steel wire inch diameter, and shall be marcelled tension wire complying with ASTM A 817 and ASTM A 824 with a metallic coating Type III, Zn-5-Al-MM alloy. 2.4 SWING GATES A. Swing Gates shall comply with ASTM F 900 for single or double swing gate types (see drawings and Standard Details for gate type). B. Metal Pipe and Tubing shall be galvanized steel and shall comply with ASTM F 1083 and ASTM F 1043 for materials and protective coatings. C. Frames and Bracing shall be fabricated from round galvanized steel tubing with outside dimension and weight according to ASTM F 900 and the following: 1. Gate Fabric Height shall be 2-inches less than adjacent fence height. 2. Leaf width shall be as shown on the drawings. 3. Frame Members shall be tubular steel per the diameter shown on the Standard Details. 4. Bracing Members shall be tubular steel per the diameter shown on the Standard Details. 5. Frame Corners shall be constructed with assembled corner fittings and 1- inch diameter adjustable truss rods. D. Gate posts and frame end members shall be extended above top of chain link fabric at both ends of gate frame as indicated in the Standard Details to attach barbed wire assemblies. E. Hardware shall be provided as follows: 1. Latches shall be provided to permit operation from both sides of gate. 2. Hinges, center gate stops and keepers for each gate leaf shall be provided. 3. Latches shall be fabricated with integral eye openings for padlocking, and padlock shall be accessible from both sides of gate. 2.5 HORIZONTAL SLIDE GATES (if shown on the drawings) A. Slide Gates shall comply with ASTM F 1184 for single and double slide gate types (see drawings and Standard Details for gate type). American States Utility Services Chain Link Fences and Gates

4 B. Slide Gates shall be Type II Cantilever Slide Gates, Class 1 with external roller assemblies. C. Metal Pipe and Tubing shall be galvanized steel and shall comply with ASTM F 1184 for materials and protective coatings. D. Frames and Bracing shall be fabricated from members from round, galvanized steel tubing with outside dimension and weight according to ASTM F 1184 and the following: 1. Gate Fabric Height shall be as shown on the Standard Details. 2. Gate Opening Width shall be as shown on the drawings. 3. Frame Members shall be tubular steel per the diameter shown on the Standard Details. 4. Bracing Members shall be tubular steel per the diameter shown on the Standard Details. E. Frame Corners shall be constructed with assembled corner fittings and 1-inch diameter adjustable truss rods. F. Gate posts and frame end members shall be extended above top of chain link fabric at both ends of gate frame as indicated in the Standard Details to attach barbed wire assemblies. G. Roller Guards shall be provided as required per ASTM F 1184 for Type II, Class 1 gates. 2.6 FITTINGS A. Fittings shall comply with ASTM F 626. B. Fittings shall be coated to meet the same requirements as the other parts of the fence. 2.7 PRIVACY SLATS (if shown on the drawings) A. Privacy slats shall be provided as shown on the drawings. B. Privacy slats shall be UV light stabilized PVC. C. Privacy slats shall be the color designated on the drawings. 2.8 BARBED WIRE A. Barbed Wire shall be zinc coated steel and comply with ASTM A121; 2-point round barbs spaced not more than 4-inches on center. American States Utility Services Chain Link Fences and Gates

5 B. Barbed wire shall be installed on gates and fence as shown on the Standard Details. 2.9 GATE OPERATORS (if shown on the drawings) A. Factory assembled automatic gate operating system shall be provided and designed for gate size, type, weight, and operation frequency. Provide operation control system with characteristics suitable for Project conditions, with remote control stations, safety devices, and weatherproof enclosures. B. Gate operating system electrical requirements shall be coordinated with building electrical system. C. Gate operating system shall comply with NFPA 70. D. Gate operating system motor shall be sufficient to start, accelerate, and operate connected loads at designated speeds, within installed environment, with indicated operating sequence, and without exceeding nameplate rating or considering service factor; and shall comply with NEMA MG-1. Motor shall be voltage and phase as shown on the drawings. E. Gate Operators shall be mounted as shown on the plans. F. Remote Controls shall be separated from gate and motor and drive mechanism, with an NEMA 4X enclosure and with space for additional optional equipment. Provide station remote control device as shown on the drawings and of one of the types specified below: 1. Radio Control System shall be a digital system consisting of code compatible universal receiver with transmitter. 2. Telephone Entry System shall be a hands free voice communication system for connection to building telephone system with digital entry code activation of gate operator and auxiliary keypad entry if specified. 3. Key Card Access System shall be digital system activated by a key card device. The system shall be capable of being programmed for up to 100 key cards that can be activated or deactivated by the Utility. G. The following additional devices may be specified on the drawings: 1. Vehicle Detector system if required including automatic closing timer with adjustable time delay before closing designed to hold gate open until traffic clears. 2. Obstruction Detection Devices if required shall provide each motorized gate with automatic safety sensor(s). Activation of sensor(s) shall cause operator to immediately reverse gate in both opening and closing cycles and hold until clear of obstruction. 6 3. Battery Backup System shall provide battery powered drive and access control system, independent of primary drive system CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE A. See Section Miscellaneous Cast-in-Place Concrete FENCE GROUNDING A. Grounding of the fence shall be provided and shall comply with the following: SECTION 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION 1. Conductors shall be bare, solid wire for No. 6 AWG and smaller; stranded wire for No. 4 AWG and larger. 2. Wire material above and below grade shall be copper. 3. Bonding Jumpers shall be braided copper tape, 1 inch wide, woven of No. 30 AWG bare copper wire, terminated with copper ferrules. 4. Connectors and Grounding Rods shall comply with UL 467. A. Chain link fencing shall comply with ASTM F 567 and more stringent requirements specified. B. Post excavation shall be completed by drilling or hand excavating holes for posts to diameters and spacings indicated, and shall be in firm, undisturbed soil. C. Post shall be set in concrete at indicated spacing into firm, undisturbed soil. D. Concrete shall be placed around posts to dimensions indicated and vibrated or tamped for consolidation. The aboveground portion of posts shall be protected from concrete splatter. E. Terminal Posts shall be located at the terminal end, corner, and all gate posts per ASTM F 567 and terminal pull posts shall be located at changes in horizontal or vertical alignment. F. Line Posts shall be space line posts uniformly per drawings and Standard Details. G. Post Bracing and Intermediate Rails shall be installed in conformance with ASTM F 567. Braces shall be installed at end and gate posts and at both sides of corner and pull posts. H. Tension Wire shall be installed in conformance with ASTM F 567, and shall maintain plumb position and alignment of fencing. American States Utility Services Chain Link Fences and Gates

7 I. Top Rails and Center Rails shall be installed in conformance with ASTM F 567. J. Chain Link Fabric shall be installed outside of the enclosing framework. See Standard Details for spacing between finish grade and surface and bottom selvage. K. Tie Wires shall be attached in conformance with ASTM F 626. Ends of wire shall be bent to minimize hazard to individuals and clothing. L. Carriage bolts and nuts for tension bands shall be installed on the opposite side of the fence to the fence fabric. M. Privacy slats shall be installed on a diagonal in direction indicated on the drawings, and securely locked in place. N. Barbed wire shall be uniformly spaced and angled toward security side of fence as indicated on drawings. Barbed wire shall be pulled taut, shall be installed securely to extension arms, and shall be secured to end post or terminal arms. 3.2 GATE INSTALLATION A. Gates shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions, and shall be level, plumb, and secure for full opening without interference. B. Ground set items shall be installed in concrete for anchorage. C. Fabric shall be attached the same method as the fencing is attached to the posts. D. Hardware shall be attached using tamper resistant or concealed means, shall be adjusted for smooth operation, and shall be lubricated where necessary. 3.3 GATE OPERATOR INSTALLATION A. Gate operators shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions, aligned and true to fence line and grade. B. Cast-in-place or precast concrete bases/pads shall be constructed as shown on the drawings and/or required by the manufacturer. Concrete shall be reinforced in accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions and/or as indicated on drawings. C. Vehicle Loop Detector System shall be installed by cutting grooves in pavement and burying and seal wire loop in accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions. Equipment operated by detector shall be connected to the detector in accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions. D. Gate operators shall comply with NFPA 70 and manufacturer's written instructions for grounding of electric powered motors, controls, and other devices. 8 3.4 GROUNDING AND BONDING A. Fence Grounding shall be installed at maximum intervals of 1000 feet. B. Grounding shall be achieved by driving a grounding rod vertically until the top is 6-inches below finished grade at each grounding location. The ground rod shall be connected to the fence with No. 6 AWG conductor. The conductor shall be connected to each fence component at the grounding location. C. Bonding jumper shall be connected between gate post and gate frame. D. All connections shall be made to minimize the possibility of galvanic action or electrolysis. E. If fence terminates at lightning protected building or structure, the fence shall be grounded and the fence grounding conductor shall be bonded to the lightning protection down conductor or the lightning protection grounding conductor, and be in conformance with NFPA FIELD QUALITY CONTROL. A. Grounding Resistance Testing shall be performed by a qualified independent testing agency at the Contractor s expense for field quality control testing.
