2 ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-3505 Issued April 2017 This report is subject to renewal April (800) (562) A Subsidiary of the International Code Council DIVISION: SPECIALTIES Section: Demountable Partitions REPORT HOLDER: KRUEGER INTERNATIONAL, INC BELLEVUE STREET GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN (920) keith.moehring@ki.com EVALUATION SUBJECT: LIGHTLINE ARCHITECTURAL WALL SYSTEM 1.0 EVALUATION SCOPE Compliance with the following codes: 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 International Building Code (IBC) Properties evaluated: Structural 2.0 USES The Lightline Architectural Wall System is a relocatable (demountable), floor-to-ceiling, nonload-bearing, nonfireresistance-rated, and interior wall partition system for use in buildings where noncombustible or combustible materials are allowed. 3.0 DESCRIPTION The components of the wall system from top to bottom are as follows: aluminum ceiling channel, aluminum clamping top rail, glass clamp gaskets, double-sided tape, glass panel, glass clamp gaskets, glide housing assembly, steel lower clamp channel, and a steel floor channel. The double-sided tape is applied to the vertical edges of the glass panels and a butt glazing seal is placed in between the glass tape of adjacent glass panels. See Figures 1 and 2. The system is factory-assembled except for the aluminum ceiling channel and the butt glazing seal which is installed in the field. The system comes in 12- to 48-inch widths (304 to 1219 mm) and has a maximum height of 120 inches (3048 mm). 3.1 Materials: Ceiling Channel: Ceiling channels are extruded from aluminum having an alloy-temper designation of 6063-T6 per ASTM B Clamping Top Rail: Each half of the clamping top rails are extruded from aluminum having an alloy-temper designation of 6063-T6 per ASTM B Glass Clamp Gasket: The glass clamp gaskets are manufactured from ExxonMobil s Santoprene TM Double-Sided Tape: The double-sided tape must be 3M 4905 VHB Clear Double-Sided Acrylic Tape Monolithic Glass Panel: The monolithic glass panel must be 1 / 2-inch-thick (12.7 mm) fully tempered glass complying with ASTM C1048. The monolithic glass panel must also comply with Category II of CPSC 16 CFR Part 1201 or Class A of ANSI Z97.1 as safety glazing Laminated Glass Panel: The laminated glass panel must consist of two lites of annealed glass with an interlayer. The laminated glass must comply with ASTM C1172. The laminated glass must also comply with Category II of CPSC 16 CFR Part 1201 or Class A of ANSI Z97.1 as safety glazing. Each lite of annealed glass must be nominally 1 / 4-inchthick with a minimum true thickness of inch-thick (5.56 mm) and comply with ASTM C1036. The interlayer must be 0.03-inch-thick (0.762 mm) polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and have a minimum interlayer shear modulus of 64 psi (0.441 MPa) Glide Housing Assembly: The glide housing assembly consists of a double jack screw stud factory installed in the double-threaded jack screw nut which is factory installed in the glide housing casting Double Jack Screw Stud: The double jack screw stud: is manufactured from steel complying with ASTM A Grade C; has a 3 / 4 inch (19.1 mm) hex head; 1 / 2-13 UNC-2B outside threads; and a inch (6.76 mm) diameter hole in the middle Double Threaded Jack Screw Nut: The double threaded jack screw nut; is manufactured from steel complying with ASTM A Grades C; has 3 / 4-16 UNF-2B R.H. outside threads; and has 1 / 2-13 UNC- 2B L.H. inside threads. 3 ESR-3505 Most Widely Accepted and Trusted Page 2 of Glide Housing Casting: The glide housing casting is ASTM B with an AG40A alloy composition Lower Clamp Channel: The lower clamp channel clamp is U shaped and is cold-formed from 11 gauge [ inch (3.04 mm) design base metal thickness] steel complying with ASTM A CS Type B Floor Channel: The floor channels are coldformed from No. 16 gage [ inch (1.46 mm) design base-metal thickness] steel conforming to ASTM A CS Type B and has a painted finish. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 Design: When subjected to a 50 plf load applied up to 42 inches above the walking surface in accordance with IBC Section , the double-side tape prevents the structurally unsupported adjacent glass panel edges from separating. The system can support a horizontal design load of 5 psf in accordance with 2015 and 2012 IBC Section (2009 and 2006 IBC Section ) while the top and bottom horizontal framing members comply with the deflection requirement (L/175) specified in IBC Section Installation: Each glass panel must be positioned beneath the ceiling channel, which is installed to the supporting structure with a maximum connection spacing of 20 o.c. (508 mm), so that the top of the glass panel engages the ceiling channel and the base of the glass panel is angled away from the ceiling channel. The glass panel is rotated into position under the ceiling channel with a maximum allowable gap of 1 / 2 inch ± 1 / 2 inch left between the ceiling and the top of the glass panel. After the glass panel is then leveled and plumbed, it is attached to the supporting structure with a minimum of one connection at each end. Additional glass panels are erected in a similar manner and are then slid next to the previous installed panel. A field installed butt glazing seal is used to attach the vertical edges of the glazing using the factory installed double-sided tape. The aluminum base and ceiling trim is then installed onto and over the ceiling and floor channel. See Figure 2. Any variation from this condition requires a registered design professional to design the connections to support the imposed loads. See Section 5.2 for these requirements. 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The Lightline Architectural Wall System described in this report complies with, or is a suitable alternative to what is specified in, those codes listed in Section 1.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 The system must be manufactured, identified, and installed in accordance with this report and the manufacturer s published installation instructions. If there is a conflict between this evaluation report and the manufacturer s published installation instructions, this evaluation report governs. A copy of the manufacturer s published installation instructions must be available at all times on the jobsite during installation. 5.2 The connections of the system (aluminum ceiling channel and steel floor channel) to the supporting structure must be designed by a registered design professional to support imposed loads as described in the 2015 and 2012 IBC Section (2009 IBC Section , as applicable) and Section of ASCE 7 for glass glazed partitions. 5.3 The glass in glazed partitions must be designed and installed in accordance with Section of ASCE EVIDENCE SUBMITTED 6.1 Reports of tests per ASTM E Analysis per ASTM E Quality control documentation. 7.0 IDENTIFICATION 7.1 The Lightline Architectural Wall System described in this report is identified by a label bearing the manufacturer s name (Krueger International, Inc.), the system name, and the evaluation report number (ESR-3505). 7.2 The glass panels must be identified as specified in this report and the code.
