3 KERTO USA page 3/12 SPECIFICATION GUIDE 1.0 GENERAL KERTO is a Structural Insulated Header designed to meet the current energy conservation code. It complies with the 2009 IRC. This unique header solution combines two high performance materials into a one-piece, dimensionally stable, structural header with exceptional insulation performance and high-speed installation. Kerto Header s outer structure is comprised of Metsä Wood Kerto Plank Laminated Veneer Lumber, a superior-quality engineered wood that is dimensionally stable and high-load capable. The interior is high-performance BASF Neopor EPS Foam, which contains graphite particles that reflect and absorb radiant heat energy. The header can achieve R-value performances far exceeding those possible with standard white EPS. Kerto Header wall assemblies have a 36% improvement over conventional batt-insulated wall applications and eliminate the possibility of draft and air leakage through the header itself. High load capacity and predictable performance: 2.0 MOE; 2900 FB. 2.0 INTENDED USE This product is intended to be used as headers for roof and floor loads under dry conditions of use, and other industrial applications. 3.0 DIMENSIONS, COMPOSITION AND TOLERANCES Nominal Thickness (inches) 3-1/2 5-1/2 Widths 9-1/4, 11-1/4 9-1/4, 11-1/4 Lengths 16, 24 16, 24 Weight PLF 9-1/4: 5.3 lbs., 11-1/4: 6.4 lbs. 9-1/4: 5.4 lbs., 11-1/4: 6.6 lbs. R-Value Up to 10 Up to 20 MATERIAL 4.0 Veneer Plies: Face, back and inner plies are all of the same species and meet pan European Forest Certification requirements 4.1 Species: Norway Spruce (Picea abies) 4.2 Grade: The grade shall not be below Grade C, per American Product Standard PS Thickness: The thickness of each veneer shall be nominal 3.0mm (0.110 ) CONSTRUCTION 5.0 Glue Bond Requirements: The glue shall meet or exceed American Product Standard PS1-Exterior Type. 6.0 Grain Direction: All veneers shall be oriented with the grain direction parallel to the long dimension of the billet. 7.0 Veneer Joints: All individual veneer joints shall be scarfed and staggered, with a distance between joints of not less than 4 (10.16 cm). MANUFACTURE 8.0 Finished Product 8.1 Widths: Widths shall be cut within tolerances given and with square clean edges, for each order. 8.2 Lengths: Lengths shall be cut within tolerances given and with square clean edges, for each order. 8.3 Surface: Surface may be sanded or unsanded as required by order. 8.4 Surface: Surface (face) veneer and may be grade A (clear) if requested. 8.5 Surface: To enhance dimensional stability, seal coating can be provided upon request. QUALITY CONTROL 9.0 KERTO-Q LVL is manufactured under the ISO 9001 quality certification system. Quality control shall be under the supervision of the Technical Research Centre of Finland, Helsinki, Finland. IDENTIFICATION 10.0 KERto
4 KERTO USA page 4/12 HIGH PERFORMANCE MATERIALS Metsä Wood and BASF are industry leaders in insulating products and structural components. Quality engineered Nordic woods from managed forests give this structural header dimensional stability and high load capacity. The BASF Neopor EPS foam insulation material in Kerto Header out-performs standard white EPS. Because it is a single component and as it is made with predictable dimensions and fine tolerances, workers can install Kerto Header with greater speed and accuracy, saving time and materials. R-VALUE LEADER The BASF Neopor EPS foam used in Kerto Header achieves higher R-value performance than standard EPS foams because it contains graphite particles that reflect and absorb radiant heat energy. Wall assemblies using Kerto Header offer a 36% improvement over standard applications that use sawn lumber and fiberglass batts. Kerto Header also eliminates the possibility of draft and air leakage through the header itself because of its single-component construction. It complies with the 2009 International Residential Code and carries a 20-year, 100% R-value warranty. Kerto Header is the R-value leader that puts high performance materials to work for you.
