10 Segment A Expo Park/USC Station
11 Segment A Construction Overview Construction on the Expo Line commenced in October Construction activities in Segment A have included utility relocations and upgrades and various street improvements such as new curbs, gutters, street lights and traffic signals. Upon the completion of the trench in October 2009, street restoration will commence and include activities such as installation of permanent street lights and sidewalks. Utility relocation and installation work in Segment A is scheduled for completion by September 2009 Trench construction will be completed by October 2009 Exposition Boulevard street reconstruction from Flower Street to Vermont Avenue will continue until October 2009 Temporary traffic signals and street lights will remain through October 2009 Sidewalk and street reconstruction along the east side of Flower Street will be completed by January 2010 Forming of the trench wall near the Expo Park/USC Station
12 Segment A Traffic Advisories CONSTRUCTION WORK HOURS Days: 7:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Nights: 9:00 p.m. 6:00 a.m. EXPOSITION BOULEVARD (westbound - Flower Street to Vermont Avenue): Intermittent nighttime lane closure, Monday night through Saturday morning. One westbound lane on Exposition Boulevard between Flower Street to Vermont Avenue is available for through traffic while both eastbound lanes on Exposition Boulevard will continue to be open. FIGUEROA STREET (northbound and southbound - Jefferson Boulevard to MLK Boulevard): Intermittent nighttime lane closures, Monday night through Saturday morning, for both the northbound and southbound lanes. 37th STREET (eastbound - Figueroa Street to Flower Street): Intermittent nighttime lane closure

17 Mid-Corridor / Segment B Construction Overview Upcoming utility and street improvement work at the intersections Halldale Ave/Exposition Blvd Relocation of sanitary sewer line Temporary street closure and detour Day and night work Vermont Ave/Exposition Blvd Intermittent night-time closures Relocation and upgrading of existing water and sewer lines Western Ave/Exposition Blvd Intermittent lane closures as necessary Crenshaw Blvd/Exposition Blvd Installation of track crossing Intermittent lane closures as necessary Day and night work Examples of traffic control signs The community will continue to be notified of work activity, timeline and traffic advisories by way of construction notices
18 Construction Activities Impact Mitigation Types of Mitigation Measures Thru traffic lanes are maintained during peak traffic hours Watering trucks are used regularly throughout the alignment Noise produced by construction activity is monitored to ensure compliance Advanced notification of traffic detours and delays will be provided Street sweepers are used regularly to clear debris from paved streets in the construction zone Street sweeper at Farmdale Watering truck near Virginia/Exposition
19 Construction Safety Education EXPO CONSTRUCTION SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAM The purpose is to increase public awareness and promote safe practices around light rail construction sites. The program reaches out to students, parents and staff at schools along the alignment. Program includes the following: School-Based Presentations Participation at Community Events Distribution of Safety-Oriented Collateral Materials Construction crew (Flagger) at Exposition and Buckingham
20 Community Outreach A 24-hour hotline phone number has been set up for all construction inquiries and emergencies: (213) 922-EXPO (3976) Team will respond to all construction inquiries as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours. All emergencies will be addressed immediately. Community art mural project at the Expo construction field office Construction notices are distributed throughout adjacent communities prior to the start of new construction activities. Regular project status meetings, elected briefings and stakeholder updates will continue to be held throughout construction and startup of the line.
