Property evaluated: Structural 2.0 USES The FCP, Inc., Structural Panels are limited to use as walls of stables or barns used for agricultural storage in Group U Occupancy under the IBC. The panels are limited to use in combustible and nonfire-resistance-rated construction. 3.0 DESCRIPTION 3.1 General: The FCP, Inc., structural panel is a factory-assembled, nonload-bearing, exterior wall panel. Each panel measures nominally 12 feet (3658 mm) in length by 8 feet (2438 mm) in height overall, and is constructed from three 4-foot-longby-8-foot-high (1219 mm by 2438 mm) plywood sheathing sections covered on each face with sheet metal. The plywood sheathing sections are joined by interior steel splines consisting of two steel C-channels factory-welded back-to-back and are encased in a steel C-channel perimeter frame to form a single unit panel. The design of the panel protects the edges of the encased plywood from water exposure. The encased plywood is raised off the bottom steel frame member. Drainage holes at each end are incorporated at the bottom of the steel frame member for water drainage. 3.2 Material: Plywood Sheathing: Plywood sheathing is nominally 4-foot-by-8-foot (1219 mm by 2438 mm), 3 / 4-inch-thick (19.1 mm), five-ply (minimum), exterior-grade boards with a span rating of 48/24, complying with United States Department of Commerce Product Standard PS 1 or PS Steel Perimeter Frame and Interior Splines: The steel perimeter frame and interior splines are manufactured from No. 14 gage [ inch (1.79 mm) minimum base-metal thickness] steel, conforming to ASTM A653, having a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi (345 MPa), or equivalent to SS Grade 50 or HSLAS Grade 50, and having a minimum coating designation of G90. Perimeter frame members consist of single C-channels. Interior splices consist of two C-channels that are factorymachined spot-welded back-to-back at 12 inches (305 mm) on center. The channels have 2.06-inch-deep (52.3 mm) webs, 1.5-inch-wide (38 mm) flanges, and inch-long (15.9 mm) return lips U-channels: U-channels, which are used as holddowns at the ends of each 12-foot-long (3658 mm) panel, are manufactured from No. 16 gage [ inch (1.46 mm) minimum base-metal thickness] galvanized steel (G90 minimum) conforming to ASTM A653, having a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi (345 MPa), equivalent to SS Grade 50 or HSLAS Grade 50. The U-channels are 4 inches (102 mm) long and 2.15 inches (54.61 mm) wide, and have 1 3 / 8-inch (35 mm) flanges Fasteners: Fasteners used to attach the wall panels to the supporting steel members and connecting elements such as steel C-channel headers at panel top and U-channel hold-downs and steel angle brackets at panel base must be 1 / 4-inch-by-1 inch-long (6.35 by 25.4 mm) self-tapping screws complying with ASTM C1513 and having a minimum tensile strength of 447 pounds and a minimum shear strength of 867 pounds. The fasteners must be corrosion-resistant Sheet Metal: Corrosion-resistant, 55 percent aluminum-zinc alloy coated, 4-foot-by-8-foot (1219 mm by 2438 mm), No. 26 gage [0.018 inch (0.46 mm)] minimum base-metal thickness] sheet metal complying with ASTM A792 CS, Type A, B or C, is factory-applied to both sides of plywood sheathing. 3 ESR-2937 Most Widely Accepted and Trusted Page 2 of Steel C-Channel Header: The steel header is a galvanized (G90, minimum) C-channel manufactured from 14 gage [ inch (1.79 mm) minimum base-metal thickness] steel conforming to ASTM A653 SS Grade 50 or HSLAS Grade 50, having a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi (345 MPa) Steel Angle Brackets: The steel angle brackets are 7 gage [0.179-inch (4.55 mm) galvanized (G90 minimum)] steel conforming to ASTM A529 SS Grade 50 or equivalent and measuring 2 inches by 2 inches by 3 inches long (51 by 51 by 76 mm). 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 Design: The allowable load capacities noted in Table 1 of this report are for use in allowable stress design. The connection of the panel system to the supporting structure, such as connection of U-channel hold-downs and steel angle brackets to the concrete foundation, and the connection of perimeter frame to the supporting steel members using fasteners prescribed in Section 3.2.4, must be designed to resist the applied loads including in-plane lateral shear load and out-of-plane (transverse) load, as applicable. A structural analysis in accordance with IBC Section must be submitted to the code official for each project, showing that the panel system (including perimeter frame, interior splines, fasteners, anchor bolts, steel angle brackets and U-channel hold-downs) provides a complete load path capable of transferring all loads and forces from the point of origin to load-resisting elements. 4.2 Installation: Panels are supported on concrete foundation by two U-channel hold-downs [one at each end of the 12-foot-long (3658 mm) panel] and two steel angle brackets located at the intermediate 4-foot (1219 mm) panel sections on the bottom of the panel. The steel angle brackets must be fastened to the bottom perimeter channel of the panel with two fasteners as described in Section of this report, and must be connected to the foundation in accordance with the submitted analysis. The bottom of the panel must also be mechanically fastened to the U-channel hold-down flange using two (a total of four at each end of the panel) fasteners as described in Section The screws must be spaced 2 inches (51 mm) apart, and with a minimum edge distance of 3 / 8 inch (12.7 mm). The C-channel header described in Section of this report must be fastened to the top perimeter channel of the panel with fasteners, as described in Section of this report, at 7 inches (178 mm) on center. Refer to Figures 1 through 3 for typical panel installation details. 4.3 Special Inspection: Any welding performed at the jobsite requires special inspection in accordance with Section of the 2015 and 2012 IBC (Section of the 2009 IBC, as applicable). Before proceeding, the welder must demonstrate the ability to produce the prescribed weld to the special inspector s satisfaction. The inspector s other duties include verification of materials, weld preparation, welding procedures and welding processes. 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The FCP, Inc., Structural Panels described in this report comply with, or are suitable alternatives to what is specified in, those codes listed in Section 1.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 Installation complies with this report, the approved plans and the manufacturer s instructions, a copy of which must be available on the jobsite during construction. In case of a conflict, the most stringent requirement governs. 5.2 The ASD demand values must not exceed those ASD capacities found in Table 1 of this report. 5.3 The panels are limited to nonload-bearing wall applications in combustible, nonfire-rated construction as walls of stables or barns used for agricultural storage in Group U Occupancies under the IBC. 5.4 When used as shear walls, as set forth in Exception 3 of IBC Section , the structural panels used in agricultural storage structures are not required to be analyzed for seismic resistance. 5.5 Structural calculations and plans are submitted to the building official for each project. 5.6 The remaining portions of the structure are designed and constructed in accordance with the code. 5.7 Special inspection is provided for welding, if required, at the jobsite in accordance with Section 4.3 of this report. 5.8 The panels are fabricated by FCP, Inc., at their manufacturing plant located in Wildomar, California, under a quality control program with inspections by ICC-ES. 6.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Wall Panels with a Welded Steel Perimeter Frame Used in Agricultural Storage Structures (AC390), dated May 2008 (editorially revised September 2015). 7.0 IDENTIFICATION Each panel is identified with the company name (FCP, Inc.), and the evaluation report number (ESR-2937).
