Egis is a pioneer in many areas: design of tunnels and other underground structures, the use of the first Slurry Shield Tunnel Boring Machine in France, new track laying techniques, the conversion of existing networks into automatic systems and the modernisation of equipment. Our extensive experience and the expertise of its engineers has made Egis the leading engineering and consulting company for metros in France and a key player worldwide. 3 underground works and viaducts civil engineering in urban environments Today we use mostly Earth Pressure Balance or Slurry Shield Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). TBMs limit disturbance to the urban areas and networks while producing smooth tunnel walls and are thus the most efficient and cost-effective solution. Focus on the (France) metro, tried and tested expertise Egis designed and built the complete metro network which is highly automated (one line of which is driverless) and much appreciated by its users. Underground works techniques 1 Slurry Shield Tunnel Boring Machine 2 Cut-and-cover retaining structure 3 Excavation by sections 4 Drill-and-blast Egis JMI expertise The superb engineering structures designed by Jean Muller (engineer and architect, ) are of international renown and led to the creation of the firm Jean Muller International (which has since become Egis JMI). < Construction of the SOBRR viaduct (Southern Outer Bangkok Ring Road) LINE B INTERVIEW WITH Salah Ghozayel Qualified engineer with 20 years experience in underground works What are the distinctive features of this project? We had to deal with different types of rock (granite and alluvium). The TBM designed for this extension was equipped with a cutting wheel adapted to all rock types. The site is in a built-up area and we used explosives to create an 8m diameter shaft. The Egis teams had to carry out geological surveys and controls in order to preserve the surrounding environment and ensure the robustness of the structure. Can you tell us about the TBM? We named it Agathe. For its design we drew on our past experience, for example in 1984 when we crossed under the Saone river in. It Contract EPCM (1) of the southern extension (1.7km) crossing under the Rhone river and including a new station with stabling and turnaround area. Services provided by Egis complete EPCM from inception to completion with additional assignments (geotechnical, hydraulic, safety, authorisation, control, supervision, etc) Client SYTRAL (Greater Transport Authority) was a real moving factory, like a big mole which burrowed through 150m to 200m per month. It worked 24h a day, 5 days a week, manned by 60 people. It was as wide as a 3-storey building (9.5m) and weighed 1,300 tonnes! What are the project s key milestones? Egis has dedicated a team of underground specialists to this project. It will take nearly 12 months to bore 1,300m. By mid-2012 the structural work will be finished. The commissioning will be in December 2013 and in 2017 the line will be completely automatic. The four lines have enabled the people of to reconnect with their city, due in part to high-quality urban developments: pedestrian areas, redesign of areas around the metro stations, restructuring of the street network and provision of park-and-ride facilities. Egis has used TBMs for projects in India and several French cities. Cut-and-cover This technique limits difficulties caused by a shallow water table (4-6m). The public utility networks are diverted and the tunnel is excavated in a trench. Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) > View of a metro station Then the stations are tested with the Simwalk Transport application, a passenger flow simulator to optimise stations and interchange hubs. This new version provides a dynamic simulation of flows in metro stations. By using Simwalk, Egis has helped Savannah Simulations AG, the software designer, in the development of new functions: Door configuration, train modelling Track dispatching management for arrival and departure of trains passengers waiting, boarding and alighting Riyadh Egis at the inception of the world s largest metro project Egis has spent the last ten years in Saudi Arabia supporting the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), from the initial transport blueprint through to the design studies for the first of the city s lines, and up to the construction procurement procedure. Egis contributes to the project management and construction supervision of three lines of Riyadh s future metro network, covering 108 km altogether and comprising 55 stations within a 425 M-contract. The entire six-line network, to be built in the space of 5 years, represents a total investment of almost 11 billion euros. This is a truly exceptional project with its 92 stations and 177 km of track including 60 km underground, 81 km overhead and 36 km at grade. Iconic projects Grand Paris Express multimodal and high-performance Egis is in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) for the installations and equipment of lines 15,16, 17 and 18 of the network, over a total of 130 km in length and 50 stations. Egis is the lead contractor in an EPCM consortium for the delivery of civil engineering structures and infrastructure works for line 16 and smaller parts of lines 14, 15 and 17. The Group is also in charge of the entire EPCM for a maintenance and stabling facility in Champignysur-Marne, east of the capital. These are part of the largest engineering contracts awarded as part of the design and construction of the Grand Paris metro, which will comprise 200 km of lines and 67 new build stations. 6 7

5 operation & modernisation Focus on airports People movers Cairo Egis carried out the complete EPCM of an elevated people mover (2 km, 4 stations), which will connect the 3 terminals, as well as providing access to a park-and-ride facility and a shopping centre (situated within the airport complex). Paris Charles de Gaulle Egis is providing technical assistance to Aéroports de Paris for the CDG-VAL automatic transport system at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. Our assignment covers all systems (rolling, stock, traffic control, etc), interface management and safety. Line 1 (3.3 km - 5 stations) is a surface line except for underground sections between terminals 1 and 2. It includes several extensions and a short elevated line running between the terminal 2 satellites, as well a stabling workshop and a control centre. Extension and modernisation projects From assisted driving to completely automated driverless systems Thanks to its extensive experience, Egis has been involved in many automatic metro projects around the world. In fully automatic systems, the trainsets run without drivers, the safety headways are managed automatically. The Control Centre processes live information about the trainsets and manages data concerning the station equipment (lighting, ventilation, etc.) Advantages Improved headways Short headways even at off-peak times Instant capacity increase depending on demand Completely automated systems Barcelona Line 9 Egis provided technical assistance to Ifercat for contractual and safety aspects for the first completely automate line in Spain. Since 2015, 50 deep stations are in operation on this 47.8 km line between the airport (south-west of the city) and the northeast of the city. It was partially put into service at the end of Lille doubles its capacity On a completely automatic network of 45 km, Line 1 is increasing its capacity from 2 to 4 carriages per train. As a result, the stations have to be reorganised, the E&M equipment upgraded and new rolling stock acquired in compliance with the new safety norms. Extension and modernisation of metro The extension of Line M1 by 4 stations (2.6 km) entails several modifications: moving of the control centre modification of the transmission networks, the railway signalling, CCTV and public address equipment, radio and telephone equipment, passenger information displays and park-and-ride facilities. metro network: 2 lines 28 stations 21 km (3 km overhead and 18 km underground) Line B Egis carried out the entire EPCM for the 1.7 km-extension of line B to the south of France s third biggest city, including a crossing under the River Rhone, built using a slurry shield tunnelling machine. The line s new terminus at Oullins is a multimodal interchange for the metro, trains, buses and a park-and-ride facility. London Modernisation of the Jubilee Line Egis provides specialist services and is carrying out an appraisal based on signalling and critical safety interfaces for the extension of the Jubilee Line. Egis is in charge of tests and acceptance of the new control centre. NYC Canarsie Line The New York metro network plans to automate its central common system by implementing train-ground radio communications. In total, 6,000 vehicles and 23 lines will be modernised over 17 years. The first line to be modernised (Canarsie line) required the upgrading of 160 vehicles. 8 9
