1 SIKAFLEX PRO 20 CF Polyurethane sealant for fire-arresting jointing system Data sheet 520 A CSTB: Fire resistance for joints up to 120 mm wide SNJF: Class 1 elastomers and SIKAFLEX CF 2 designate the same product. Description is a polyurethane-based single-component grey sealant. It is associated to a backing roll consisting of: Either one or two seam(s) of BOURRELET 511 made of glasswool for joints 20 to 60 mm wide, Or two layers of CARBOLANE made of ceramic fibres for joints 60 to 120 mm wide. General characteristics Polymerises without shrinkage under action of air moisture. Does not run when fresh even in wide joints; can be applied on soffits. First-rate adhesion on mortar, concrete, glass and aluminium. High elasticity. Gas- and water-proof. Applications Making of fire-arresting joints 20 to 120 mm wide on concrete substrates. Ph and Ch (mechanical) characteristics Breaking elongation: > 250 % Modulus of elasticity (at 23 C) about 0,3 MPa at 100 % elongation Density: 1,3 Shore hardness (A) (after 28 days at 23 C under 50% R.H.): 15 to 20 Polymerisation over 10 mm depth in 20 days at 20 C under 50% R.WH. BOURRELET 511 Nature: glass wool strip, 50 mm. Limit working temperature: 500 C CARBOLANE Nature: ceramic fibre layer 38 mm thick Apparent volume mass: 128 kg/m3 Limit working temperature: > 1250 C Performances of the fire-arresting system The performances of the fire-arresting system are obtained owing to the association of sealant which ensures a gas-proofing, and of a backing roll BOURRELET 511 or a CARBOLANE layer which acts as a heat and flame insulator. 1

NAPPE CARBOLANE Consult CARBORUNDUM (list of agents at the end of the technical data sheet). As an indication, carton holding 1 5mx61m roll. Storage and shelf-life must be stored in a dry place away from freezing and at a temperature < 25 C. When stored in an unopened packaging, it has a one-year shelf-life. BOURRELET 511 and NAPPE CARBOLANE are stored in an unopened packaging and in a dry, temperate place so that their characteristics are not altered in time. Certifications and official tests Compliance with SNJF label for Class 1 elastomer without primer on concrete and aluminium. Fire resistance: CSTP reports No and Decontamination of : CEA report No class 3 (fission products). 2

3 Consumption ml cartridge to make 1 joint about one metre long with a 25 mm x 12 mm section. Instructions Principle is placed on the side of the room to be protected. Consequently the backing roll is directly in contact with the room where a risk of fire exists (see diagram 1). When each room must be protected against a fire starting in the other room, SIKA fire-arresting system must be used on each side of the joint. Conditions for use Temperature from + 5 C to + 35 C. Moisture: check to see that there is no risk of water condensation on the substrates. Implements Conventional spray gun for cartridges. Knife or cutter for cutting the backing roll. Gauge for placing the backing roll. Substrate preparation The substrates must be clean, dry, sound and free of formwork removal oil, and of any loose particles. Choosing the backing roll The backing roll depends on the joint width to be protected: a) Joints 20 to 40 mm wide One seam of BOURRELET 511 (diagram 2). b) Joints 40 to 60 mm wide Two seams of BOURRELET 511 intertwisted so as to obtain a uniform crosssection (diagram 3). c) Joints 60 to 90 mm wide A layer of CARBOLANE cut at 180 mm bent double around a layer of CARBOLANE cut at 120 mm (diagram 4). d) Joints 90 to 120 mm wide A layer of CARBOLANE cut at 220 mm bent double around a layer of CARBOLANE cut at 160 mm and bent double (diagram 5). 3

4 Positioning the backing roll The backing roll must be positioned at a depth that depends on the joint width according to diagram 6 and to the table below. The proper insertion of the backing roll will be made easier if a gauge is used. Fill the joint in one (or more) pass (diagram 7) depending on the joint width. In the case of wide joints on soffits, it might be necessary to wait until a pass has partly polymerised before adding another pass. Tighten so as to bring the sealant into contact with the whole substrate surface. Then smooth it with a spatula possibly wetted with soapy water.
