6 Building Configuration Building Configuration When the upper building area is greater than the lower building area, GIB EzyBrace gives the option for the user to input the proportion of the Upper Storey Area supported by the Lower Storey. Example: 6 / 16

9 Ground Roughness Ground Roughness The ground roughness is determined by considering the number, type and height of obstructions over which the wind must pass as it approaches the site. Use the most severe direction to establish the ground roughness for the site. Urban Terrain more than 10 obstructions, houses or trees more than 3m high, per hectare Open Terrain grazed pastures, cropping, or areas adjacent to beaches and the sea or airfields and other areas with isolated trees or shelter. Sites within a 500m wide fringe of the boundary between urban and open terrain shall be considered open terrain. Site Exposure Site Exposure Determine the site exposure for a building by assessing the shielding effects of obstructions around the site, for wind from any direction. Sheltered At least 2 rows of similarly sized permanent obstructions at the same ground level all around. Exposed Steep sites as defined in table 5.2 or sites adjacent to open spaces such as playing fields, beach fronts, large rivers, motorways, or sites adjacent to wind channels greater than 100m 9 / 16

10 Topography Class Topography Class Follow tables 5.2 and 5.3 to determine the topographic class for the site. The smoothed gradient is measured over a horizontal distance from the crest for the lesser of 3 times the height of the hill, or 500 m. It is the change in elevation divided by the relevant distance (h/l). An escarpment is defined as the region beyond the crest having a slope less than 1:20 (see figure 5.2). 11 Bracing Lines Bracing Lines The spacing of Bracing Lines should conform to the requirements of NZS3604:2011. Bracing Lines in any storey shall be at not more than 6 m centres in each direction, unless a Diaphragm is present. Each bracing line should have a minimum resistance of 100 BUs or 50% of the Demand divided by the number of bracing lines, whichever is greater. A bracing line with an external wall has an additional requirement that the minimum capacity must be greater than 15 times the length of the external portion of wall. Adding Elements and Lines Adding Elements and Bracing Lines To Add Elements right click the mouse when over the Element above which you want to insert the element. 11 / 16

12 To Add Lines right click the mouse when over the Line above which you want to insert the Line. Enter the lengths, angle of element to Line and the element type of the wall elements. If the bracing line has an external section or sections, Enter the total length of the external sections in the External Length (Ext. Len.) box 12 / 16

13 Sub-Floor Masonry Elements Sub-Floor Masonry Elements The bracing resistance of a masonry element element depends on the wall length to wall height ratio. In NZS3604:2011.reinforced masonry elements must be greater than 1.5 m and if the ratio of wall length divided by wall height is Less than 0.75 rating is 0 BUs/m Greater than 0.75 and less than 1.5 (Masonry 0.75) rating is 42 BUs/m Greater than 1.5 and less than 3.0 (Masonry 1.5) rating is 100 BUs/m Greater than 3.0 and less than 4.5 (Masonry 3.0) rating is 200 BUs/m Greater than 4.5 (Masonry 4.5) rating is 300 BUs/m Importing Text Based Element Information Importing Bracing Element Information from atext File Bracing element information can be imported from a text file. A separate text file must used for each level (Upper, Lower, Subfloor). The text file must be a delimited file. A separate line in the file should be used for each element. The information required is the Line ID, Element ID, Element Angle, Element Type and Direction. An example of the text file input is given below. 14 Custom Elements Adding Custom Elements Custom Wall and Sub-floor elements can be added in the Custom Sheet. As a default GIB EzyBrace limits the bracing resistance of a wall element to 150 BUs/m for concrete slabs and 120 BUs/ for timber floors. GIB EzyBrace also reduces the resistance of elements that are greater than 2.4 m in height. The foundation and height limit can be turned off for a custom element by deselecting the appropriate check box in the custom element sheet. To insert Proprietary Custom Wall Elements from a 'Patch File' press the Import Proprietary Custom Elements button 14 / 16
