Requirements analysis is the crucial first stage in the development of a robust waterproofing specification that will allow a construction that provides optimal longevity, as well as low operation and maintenance costs. 3 SUB-GRADE SYSTEMS When selecting a sub-grade waterproofing system the following should be considered; Ground water pressure Ground water or soil contaminants Geological stability Construction methodology Allowable water ingress or dampness Life expectancy requirement THE GROUND CONDITIONS Basements are immersed in differing levels of groundwater, and aggressive influences including damp soil contact, percolating water, water under hydrostatic pressure plus aggressive chemicals in solution, different soil, gravel and rock, etc. These all require different and often specific waterproofing treatments to be applied to the structure.
