Civil Engineering 09/ /2002 Ranked first, GPA of 3.7 HONORS AND REGISTRATION Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), State of California Certified Engineer for Seismic retrofit and strengthening of existing structures, Iran State Management and Planning Organization Merit based award from K. N. Toosi University of Technology Honored PhD Graduate RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES University of Connecticut, CT 2011-Present Assistant Professors, University of Nevada, Reno, NV Research Scientist, Supervisor Professor Manos Maragakis Assisted a research project on NSF NEESR-GC Simulation of the Seismic Performance of Nonstructural Systems, a multi-university project led by the University of Nevada, Reno. Tasks included supervising: o o Design of a 2-bay, 2-floor test bed structure spanning on three shake tables to simulate the environment required for dynamic experiments on piping-partition-ceiling systems. Design of the nested nonstructural systems with a focus on capturing the possible interactions between their elements, and them, as the subsystems, with the test bed structure. 1
4 o Analytical study of building type structures to establish design floor acceleration, and utilization of digital filtering to develop shake table input motions from analytical floor responses with consideration of experiment limitations. o Mentored NEES funded undergraduate interns (REUs). o Assisted supervision of a Master s and two PhD students. Coordinate the NSF NEESR-GC, NEES TIPS, and E-Defense collaboration to use the experimental setup of a five story steel frame in Japan as a test-bed for installing nonstructural systems. Collaborated research on a FHWA/Caltrans funded project entitled Seismic Effects on Multi-Span Bridges with High Degrees of Horizontal Curvature. The test model will be 145 ft long with an 80 ft radius at the centerline and that rests on four shake tables. Tasks included conducting: o Design of an elaborated setup for the bridge abutments to study the effect of different combinations of the bearings and shear keys on seismic response of the curved bridge model. o Design of a nonlinear back-wall system to simulate the impact and soil nonlinearities. Collaborated as the Co-PI on preparing a research proposal on seismic response of prefabricated bridge bents that was recently approved for funding by Caltrans. University of Nevada, Reno, NV Research Assistant Advisor Professor M. Saiid Saiidi Conducted a comprehensive study of pipe-pin two-way flexural column hinges, funded by Caltrans. Tasks included: o Shake table experiments on a scaled bridge bent model. o Elaborated nonlinear FE analyses of the pipe-pin detail using ABAQUS. o Development of a design method for this type of column hinges. Tazand Structural Consulting Engineers, Tehran, Iran (One of the prominent engineering firms in design and retrofit of residential, commercial and industrial structures) Started as Engineering Intern and was promoted to Project Engineer Directed several projects on quantitative and qualitative seismic vulnerability and retrofit design of residential and industrial buildings. Designed elaborated petrochemical structures. Contributed in design of several bridges including a cable stayed bridge with 500-m (1640-ft) total span and 160-m (525-ft) height from footing to top of pylons. Designed several multistory structures (4 to 8 stories) with different lateral resisting systems. Dealt with a variety of engineering challenges, such as selection of proper ground motion records for the response history analysis, design of extra large span shelters, design of foundation for vibration, and the design of explosion resistant structures. Sub Station Company, Tehran, Iran (Well-known contractor of electrical power transmission lines and sub stations) Project Engineer Designed several lattice frame transmission towers, cable racks, and transformer room. TEACHING EXPERIENCE University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT Spring Civil Engineering Material Sharif University of technology, Tehran, Iran 2006 Instructor, Concrete technology, and Solid Mechanics Lab 2
