1 SELECTIVE DEMOLITION PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 STIPULATIONS A. The specifications sections " General Conditions of the Construction Contract ", "Special Conditions", and "Division 1 - General Requirements" form a part of this Section by this reference thereto, and shall have the same force and effect as if printed herewith in full. 1.2 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to work of this Section 1.3 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. In the event that the Drawings are not clear, the General Contractor shall request that the Architect clarify the scope, intent and purpose of the demolition and related Drawings and/or Specifications. B. Extent of building demolition work is shown on Demolition Drawings and includes, but is not limited to: C. Type of Selective Demolition Work: Demolition requires the selective removal and subsequent off-site disposal of: The General Contractor shall remove: flooring, ceilings, interior walls, doors, frames, wall finishes, masonry, concrete, cabinetry, garage door, paving, concrete, curbing and ductwork, roof curbs, roofing, piping (gas, water, storm and sanitary), sprinkler systems, structural framing, electrical power, panels, conduit, outlets, data, lighting, wiring, etc. Portions of building structure as required to accommodate new and renovated construction whether specifically indicated or not. Removal of interior partitions in the Kitchen. Removal of doors and frames Removal of existing suspended acoustic ceilings and suspension system as indicated or as required for installation of new construction. Repair damaged surfaces by patching and refinishing with matching material where required. Removal of doors, frames, hardware, transoms, sidelights, glass required for installation of new work. Protection of adjacent surfaces scheduled to remain. Removal of partitions, walls, ceiling, soffits and chases where indicated and as required to accommodate new construction. Removal of built-in casework and cabinetry where indicated and as required to accommodate new construction. Kitchen and Lounge Upgrades Section
2 Removal of mechanical, electrical and plumbing components as indicated on the drawings or required to accommodate new construction. Off-site disposal of all above removed materials. D. Verifying Existing Conditions: Contractor shall verify existing conditions at the site and examine adjoining work, which in any way will affect the completion of this work. The Architect shall be notified in writing should the Contractor have questions as to existing condition that will effect the Work. E. Related Work: 1. All cutting and patching in the existing building shall be done by the contractor. This cutting and patching unless noted otherwise, shall include providing and installing all steel lintels required for openings in masonry walls and bearing walls and steel frames for new roof openings. 2. Relocation of pipes, conduits, ducts, other mechanical and electrical work are specified by respective trades. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. Schedule: Submit schedule indicating proposed methods and sequence of operations for selective demolition work to Owners representative for review prior to commencement of Work. Include coordination for shut-off, capping, and continuation of utility services as required, together with details for dust and noise control protection. 1.5 JOB CONDITIONS: A. Occupancy: The project space is not unoccupied. B. Condition of Structures: Owner assumes no responsibility for actual condition of items or structures to be demolished. Conditions existing at time of commencement of contract will be maintained by Owner insofar as practicable. C. Protections: Provide temporary barricades and other forms of protection as required to protect the general public from injury due to selective demolition work. Provide protective measures as required to provide free and safe passage of for the general Public to and from occupied portions of the building. Erect temporary covered passageways as required by authorities having jurisdiction. Provide interior and exterior shoring, bracing or support to prevent movement, settlement, or collapse of structure or element to be demolished, and adjacent facilities or work to remain. Protect from damage existing finish work that is to remain in place and becomes exposed during demolition operations. Protect floors with suitable coverings when necessary. Construct temporary insulated solid dustproof partitions where required to separate areas where noisy or extensive dirt or dust operations are performed. Equip partitions with dust proof doors and security locks if required. Kitchen and Lounge Upgrades Section
3 Provide temporary weather protection during interval between demolition and removal of existing construction on exterior surfaces, and installation of new construction to insure that no water leakage or damage occurs to structure of interior areas of existing building. Remove protections at completion of Work. D. Damages: Promptly repair damaged caused to adjacent facilities by demolition work at no cost to the Owner. E. Traffic: Conduct selective demolition operations and debris removal in a manner to ensure minimum interference with roads, streets, walks, and other adjacent occupied or used facilities. Do not close, block or otherwise obstruct streets, walks or other occupied or used facilities without written permission from authorities having jurisdiction. Provide alternate routes around closed or obstructed traffic ways, if required, by governing regulations. F. Explosives: Use of explosives will not be permitted. G. Utility Services: Maintain existing utilities indicated to remain, keep in service, and protect against damage during demolition operations. Do not interrupt existing utilities serving occupied or used facilities, except when authorized in writing by authorities having jurisdiction. Provide temporary services during the interruptions to existing utilities as acceptable to governing authorities. H. Environmental Controls Use water sprinkling, temporary enclosures and other suitable methods to limit dust and dirt rising and scattering in air to lowest practical level. Comply with governing regulations pertaining to environmental protection. Do not use water when it may create hazardous or objectionable conditions such as ice, flooding, and pollution. PART 2 - PRODUCTS (Not Applicable) PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION A. Prior to commencement of selective demolition work, inspect areas in which work will be performed. Photograph existing conditions of structure surfaces, equipment and surrounding properties, which could be misconstrued as damage resulting form selective demolition work. File with Owners Representative prior to starting work. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Provide interior and exterior shoring, bracing, or support to prevent movement, settlement or collapse of structures to be demolished and adjacent facilities to remain. Cease operations and notify the Owners Representative or Architect immediately if safety of structure appears to be endangered. Take precautions to support structure until determination is made for continuing operations. B. Erect and maintain dust-proof partitions and closures as required to prevent spread of dust or fumes to occupied portions of the building and into other areas of the building not owned by the Achievement Center. 4 3.3 DEMOLITION: Where selective demolition occurs immediately adjacent to occupied portions of the building, construct dustproof partitions of minimum 4" studs, 5/8" drywall (joints taped) on occupied side, 1/2" fire-retardant plywood on demolition side, and fill partition cavity with sound-deadening insulation. Provide weatherproof closures for exterior openings resulting from demolition work. C. Locate, Identify, Stub Off and Disconnect utility services that are not indicated to remain. Provide by-pass connections as necessary to maintain continuity of service to occupied areas of building. Provide minimum of 72 hours advance notice to Owner if shut-down of service is necessary during change-over. A. Perform selective demolition work in a systematic manner. Use such methods as required to complete work indicated on the Drawings in accordance with demolition schedule and governing regulations. B. Demolish concrete and masonry in small sections. cut concrete and masonry at junctures with construction to remain using power driven masonry saw or hand tools; do not use power driven impact tools. C. Locate demolition equipment throughout structure and promptly remove debris to avoid imposing excessive loads on supporting walls, floors or framing. D. Provide services for effective air and water pollution controls as required by local authorities having jurisdiction (DER) E. Demolish foundation walls, if required, to a depth of not less than 24" below existing ground surface. Demolish and remove below grade wood or metal construction. Break up below grade concrete slab. F. For interior slabs on grade, use removal methods that will not crack or structurally disturb adjacent slabs or partitions. Use power saw where possible. G. Completely fill below grade areas and voids resulting from demolition work. Provide fill consisting of approved earth, gravel or sand, free of trash and debris, stones over 6" diameter, roots or other organic matter. H. If unanticipated mechanical, electrical or structural elements which conflict with intended function or design are encountered, investigate and measure both nature and extent of the conflict. Submit report to Owner's Representative and/or Architect in written, accurate detail. Pending receipt of directive from Owner's Representative rearrange selective demolition schedule as necessary to continue overall job progress without delay. 3.4 DISPOSAL OF DEMOLISHED MATERIALS: 1. Remove debris, rubbish and other materials resulting from demolition operations from building site. Transport and legally dispose of materials off site. Kitchen and Lounge Upgrades Section

If hazardous materials are encountered during demolition operations comply with applicable regulations, laws, and ordinances concerning removal, handling and protection against exposure or environmental pollution. 3. Burning of removed materials is not permitted on project site. 3.5 CLEAN-UP AND REPAIR: 1. Upon completion of demolition work, remove tools, equipment and demolished materials from site. Remove protections and leave interior areas broom clean. 2. Repair demolition performed in excess of that required. Return structures and surfaces to remain to condition existing prior to the commencement of selective demolition work. Repair adjacent construction or surfaces soiled or damaged by selective demolition work. END OF SECTION Kitchen and Lounge Upgrades Section
