1 Date 1 May 2014 Job No/Ref TN-P2-CE-001 Earthwork Methods - Introduction This note provides a summary of the possible earthworks methods and plant to be employed during construction of the main shaft platform, process area platform and screening mounds at the Dove s Nest Farm. The methodology should be read in conjunction with the phasing plans YP-P2-CX-50 to YP-P2-CX-60 and sketches YP-P2-CX-61 to YP-P2-CX-6. It should be noted that whilst an assessment of the potential methods and plant requirements has been made, the actual quantity and type of plant used will depend on the working methods of, and plant available to, the selected contractor. The descriptions below should only be regarded as indicative of how the works may be executed and the type of plant likely to be involved, not as a definitive method statement. 1 Phase 1, Month 2 In preparation for the commencement of platform construction, topsoil and subsoil will be stripped from the footprint of Bunds A and B and deposited in separate stockpiles close to the bunds. will also be stripped from the footprint of the haul road and attenuation ponds and placed in stockpile. Swales to be formed around Bunds A and B. It is anticipated that topsoil will be stripped using a dozer to doze the topsoil into heaps which will be loaded into all terrain dumpers (ATD s) using a tracked excavator. is expected to be stripped using the excavator to load directly into ATD s. A dozer will be used to manage the stockpiles. The existing subsoil, topsoil, inert material and imported granular fill (6F2) will be loaded into ATD s using tracked excavators for transport to the locations shown on drawing YP-P2-CX70. and subsoil storage mounds will be formed by end tipping the soils and grading to level using a dozer. Fill placed into bunds A and B will be spread in layers using a dozer and compacted using a towed vibrating roller. Granular material used to construct the haul road will be spread in layers using a dozer and compacted using a self-propelled vibrating roller. Construction of the attenuation ponds will be commenced. Plant used in constructing the ponds will include a tracked excavator, ATD s, a dozer and towed vibrating roller. Typical plant in use during this stage would be: Nr tracked excavators (CAT 20 or similar) 6Nr ATD s (Volvo A0 or similar) nr Dozers (CAT D6 or similar) 2Nr towed vibrating roller (Bomag BW6 or similar) 1Nr self propelled single drum vibrating roller (Bomag BW21 or similar) J:\20000\ \0 ARUP\0-01 CIVIL\ RECORD COPIES\ MINEHEAD EARTHWORKS PHASING NARRATIVE\TN-P2-CE-001-REV 01 EARTHWORKS - OUTLINE DESCRIPTION OF ASSUMED WORKING METHOD DOCX Arup F0.1 Page 1 of 8

2 Date 1 May 2014 Job No/Ref TN-P2-CE-001 In addition to earthworks tree clearance will commence for the southern access and bund D, and existing farm buildings will be demolished. It is anticipated that additional plant used in these site clearance activities will include: 1 Nr hydraulic platform 1 Nr forestry harvester 1Nr forestry forwarder Construction of the recharge borehole will also commence using a rotary water well drilling rig, e.g. Dando Watertec Phase 1, Month Construction of drainage attenuation ponds will be completed using a tracked excavator loading directly to ATD s and swales/ ditches will be formed along the eastern and northern site boundary to direct run-off from areas to be stripped of soils into the ponds. and subsoil will be stripped from the footprint of Bund F and predominantly placed in stockpile using the same techniques as described in Section 1 above. A proportion of the soils will be transported to bund A for use in restoration. and subsoil stripping beneath the footprint of Bund F will commence from the north-eastern corner. Initially topsoil will be dozed into a bund along the eastern boundary and eastern part of the northern boundary. that cannot be accommodated here will be loaded into ATD s using a tracked excavator and transported to stockpile. will be loaded directly into ATD s using a tracked excavator and transported to stockpile. Stockpiles will be managed by a dozer. Temporary ditches will be formed around the toe of temporary storage mounds to control run-off. Once sufficient area has been stripped, construction of Bund F will commence using superficial soils excavated from the main shaft platform. The soils will be spread in layers using a dozer and compacted using a self-propelled vibrating roller. Bulk excavation of superficial soils from the main shaft platform will be undertaken using tracked excavators loading directly into ATD s. It is anticipated that two excavators and four ATD s would be employed on this task. Where excavation below rockhead cannot be achieved using tracked excavators, the rock will be ripped using a heavy dozer equipped with a ripper. This will be confined to the western half of the shaft platform. Rock will be loaded into ATD s and transported to a crusher which will be located within the shaft platform area. Crushed rock will be loaded into ATD s using a tracked excavator and used to make up levels beneath the eastern half of the main shaft platform where it will be spread in layers by dozer and compacted using a self-propelled vibrating roller. Once sufficient area of Bund F has been completer to the required level, topsoil and subsoil stripping will commence for Bund D, the soils being transported directly to Bund F for use in restoration. will be spread using a low ground pressure dozer; topsoil will by placed by tracked excavator by loose tipping. Bund B will be completed using superficial soils excavated from the main shaft platform. Bunds A and B will be restored by spreading subsoil and topsoil. Soils will be excavated from stockpile by J:\20000\ \0 ARUP\0-01 CIVIL\ RECORD COPIES\ MINEHEAD EARTHWORKS PHASING NARRATIVE\TN-P2-CE-001-REV 01 EARTHWORKS - OUTLINE DESCRIPTION OF ASSUMED WORKING METHOD DOCX Arup F0.1 Page 2 of 8

Crushed rock will be loaded into ATD s using a tracked excavator and used to make up levels beneath the eastern half of the main shaft platform where it will be spread in layers by dozer and compacted using a self-propelled vibrating roller. Construction of Bund F will continue using arisings from the main shaft platform. As the height of the bund increases, successive lifts will be commenced by depositing material to form an attenuation/screening bund around the eastern and northern margin behind which the arisings from the shaft platform will be spread and compacted, as illustrated on drawings YP-P2-CX-61 to YP- P2-CX-6. As areas of the Bund F are completed to the required level, subsoil and topsoil will be taken from stockpile using a tracked excavator, loaded into ATD's and transported to Bund F for use in restoration. In addition soil stripping for Bund E will commence using the techniques described previously, the soils being transported directly to Bund F for use in restoration. will be spread using a low ground pressure dozer; topsoil will by placed by tracked excavator by loose tipping.
