1 SikaPower Epoxy and Rubber Based Technology High Structural Integrity

2 SikaPower Bodyshop Adhesive and Sealant Technology Recent developments in adhesive and sealant technologies has revolutionised the way commercial vehicles are developed and produced. New high performance adhesives and sealants have turned visions into reality by reducing vehicle body weight, improving the body stiffness and reducing manufacturing costs including shorter production time. The new generation of SikaPower products enables vehicle producers to introduce and combine new assembly materials and technologies such as hybrid bonding, the latest joining technologies, more reliable stress and fatigue calculations, resulting in optimized weight reduced designs. What is SikaPower and what is it used for? Sika has developed a range of optimized products dedicated to bodyshop applications. The SikaPower range is based on epoxy, polyurethane and rubber technologies. All products in the range are cured in the ordinary paint or e-coat stove process at elevated temperature. SikaPower materials combine the toughness of polyurethane with the flexibility and elongation of rubber based elastomeric technology. The epoxy technology contributes with mechanical strength and an excellent adhesion spectrum. SikaPower products are used in these main scenarios: Structural strength and toughness are the priorities Semi-structural strength and flexibility balanced Anti-flutter material hardness and read through are key Sealing flexibility and adhesion performance important The properties of the SikaPower products have been designed and tuned to best performance in sealant, anti-flutter, hem-flange, semistructural and structural applications. SikaPower typical applications SikaPower typical applications Elongation % Sealant Anti-flutter Hem flange Structural Tensile Strength MPa The range of SikaPower materials strech from high strength toughned adhesives to highly flexible sealants.

3 What are the benefits of using SikaPower? Manufacturing engineers benefit from The one-component materials which are simple to implement and apply Full compatibility with existing assembly, cleaning, curing and paint processes Excellent adhesion on oily substrates and wide adhesion profile Low investments in production equipment and no modifications to existing process The excellent wash-out resistance in cleaning processes Good general over-paintability Design teams benefit from Increased strength and stiffness of vehicle Reduction of mechanical fixings and spot welding Greater design freedom Possibility to combine and join dissimilar materials Implementation of design analysis and cutting edge technology SikaPower for door frame bonding Quality benefit from Improved product quality and end customer satisfaction Higher quality in product design and development processes Increased manufacturing process stability Simpler quality assurance compared to traditional techniques Sealed cabins before paint shop

4 Environment benefit from Enhanced design capabilities Lowered energy consumption due to weight reduction Saving energy by integration into existing manufacturing processes Owners and operators benefit from Increased comfort and performance Reduced operating costs Increased lifetime and build quality with redused depreciation Bonded motor hoods ready for paint shop SikaPower Range Product / Grade Typical Functions Remark Lap Shear Strength Elongation at Break SikaPower Gap sealer and anti-flutter Heat expanding sealant 1 MPa >100% SikaPower Anti-flutter and general sealer Flexible general sealant 2 MPa 65% SikaPower Weld through sealer Ambient conditions pre-curing 2 MPa 100% SikaPower Light colour sealant Paint and powder coating processes 12 MPa 40% SikaPower Elastic bonding and anti-flutter Increased elongation and strength 3 MPa 100% SikaPower Structural bonding High strength adhesive 30 MPa 8% Please note: Indicative value only. 5 Where and how is SikaPower used? Sika s body shop technology is designed for industrial manufacturing environments with stoving facilities (e.g. drying ovens for electro-dipped coatings or powder coating installations). This permits the bonding and sealing applications to be performed on bare metal during body assembly. This effectively eliminates the risk of impact in later process steps like paint shop or assembly shop. Automated or manual application SikaPower products can be applied either manually or in automated equipment. In high volume production the product is dispensed by pump. The application properties are well suited to fully automated application equipment like robots or application heads. For low volume production the products are easy to apply manually from cartridge or unipac.
