These accidents are to a high degree fall accidents that result in big and difficult consequences for those who are affected. We want to change that. There are many factors to consider, but with a correct attitude, higher competence and smarter products we are convinced that it is possible to create a positive change. 6 6 SERVICES SERVICES By using the services of SafetyRespect a cost-effective and safe construction site is created. We offer installations of various types of edge protection solutions and services of the construction projects in order to create a safe working site. We work in a way that we ourselves have developed - Quality assured edge protection! INSTALLATION Let an expert carry out the installation. The basis of our service is our customers requirement of safe construction sites, and to follow the workenvironment laws that apply. With an expert carrying out the installation of edge protection the time it takes to do the installation is shortened and made more effective. Certain solutions such as installation of Working platforms require specially trained personnel. SAFETYCHECK In order to assure the highest degree of safety at the building sites we offer periodical safety checks of installed edge protections, something we call SafetyCheck. Suggestions of measures to be taken when something is not satisfactory are documented. This SafetyCheck is carried out by using checklists in our mobile application and is distributed to all parties concerned. ACTIVE SAFETYCHECK We can service an already installed edge protection based on a SafetyCheck that has been carried out at an earlier stage. We make the necessary corrections of possible defects, make additions to the edge protections, optimise material of delivered and installed edge protection, move and remove materials on slabs, etc. We look forward and solve future edge protection situations. RETURN SERVICE Here you can save time by using our return service right on the working site. When it is time to return the delivered edge protection, we will come to the working site and collect the material for you, prepare and manage the return logistics. This service results in maximum return and a minimum of handling.

8 8 QUALITY-ASSURED QUALITY-ASSURED EDGE PROTECTION OUR WAY OF CREATING SAFE WORKING SITES EDGE PROTECTION ANALYSIS A working method has been developed with which we already at the designing stage are present to develop solutions according to an established structure an Edge Protection Analysis. We identify situations where a risk of falling may be present, and solutions are then specified already at the design stage. We co-operate with the project management, designers and local managers to create safe working sites. 2 TRAINING At the start of new projects we carry out training of installers and safety representatives in regard to laws and regulations, and the current edge protection solutions. The installers also get instructions as to individual checks with checklists and work methods. The training and instructions are adapted to the requirements of the projects and are carried out, where possible, at the working site. USAGE We also train the users in how to use the protections installed by the installers. Many different professional groups handle the edge protection on a daily basis, and therefore good knowledge is essential. Follow-up tasks are continuously carried out, including measures in order to assure the highest possible degree of safety at the working site. This SafetyCheck is a safety inspection that focuses on the installed edge protections. 9 RESPONSIBILITY AND LAWS 9 WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY The most important rules for the working environment are stipulated in the working environment act. The basic principle is that the employer and the worker should cooperate in order to create a good working environment. As an employee, manager or employer each and everyone is affected and responsible for how the working environment act is applied at a working site, and it is then important that everyone knows who is responsible for what. The employer bears the main responsibility for the working environment, and should carry out the measures required to prevent accident and illness. The work manager is the representative of the employer and has a great safety responsibility. The range of this responsibility depends on the representative s powers, competence and independence. The worker has the obligation of following the stipulated regulations and should use available protective equipment. The worker has the right to discontinue the work if it entails sudden or serious danger. LAWS AND NORMS In the working environment act there are rules as to the obligations of the employer and other personnel responsible for safety in regard to preventing illness and accidents at the working site. In this law it is established that the employer should provide a complete edge protection program at the working site for everyone doing work at a height where a risk of falls is present. This means that we have to identify the risks of falling at the working site, select products that are suitable to the task, and provide training of the personnel in correct operation methods. When the employer has carried out the above, the worker is obliged to use the equipment provided, as there is a risk of falling in connection with carrying out certain duties. Laws and norms differs between countries. The Swedish Work Environment Authority publishes regulations that in detail mentions the requirements and responsibilities that apply to the working environment. For building and construction work regulation AFS applies, and this regulation describes when edge protections should be used and generally how they should be designed. In the European standard EN technical requirements and testing methods are given as to temporary guardrail systems when building or maintaining buildings. In this standard you will find detailed requirements on how the edge protection should be designed and the loads they are intended for. CAUSES OF FALL ACCIDENTS The building industry is at the top in the statistics of reported accidents and serious incidents, and is responsible for a great number of fatalities. Fall accidents mean heavy consequences for those who are injured, and roughly 50 per cent of the industry s fatalities are caused by falls. Investigations of such accidents show that the internal risk- or safety management has been poor in many sectors at the companies where accidents have occurred. Substandard knowledge and experience, unclear responsibility distribution at the building site, poor compliance to internal rules and instructions are some factors that have contributed to the accidents. The causes thus lie with the organisations, employers and workers. A correct attitude, higher competence and smarter products are important factors that drive the development forward. On the following pages you will find edge protection solutions that are adapted to different building methods and applying laws and norms. Our focus as experts is to be as close as possible to our customers and projects throughout the whole construction process, from edge protection analysis and estimates to training, delivery, installation and follow-up.

12 12 SLAB EDGES Socket base Vertical bracket Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L SLAB EDGES Slab edges are present everywhere and are a usual cause of fall accidents. Edge protection can be installed on the slab or on the outside of the slab edge. If there are columns, they can be an alternative attachment of the edge protection. Please see solutions for columns/beams. Our solution can be installed on all types of material and they are very fast and flexible as, for example, when walls are to be installed. When the Barrier is in its lowest position it seals against the slab, and it can easily be raised on the post for various kinds of work at the slab edge. 13 SLAB EDGES 13 PREFABRICATED CONCRETE SLABS When prefabricated concrete slabs are used in building constructions Socket base is usually installed at the slab edge for attachment of edge protection. In the Socket base Post 1,3 m is installed and thereafter Barrier 2,6 L. The Barrier can be raised in one simple operation on the post up to a height of 310 mm above the floor structure, without decreased safety. This creates conditions for joint grouting, casting and other common work tasks without any need of uninstalling the edge protection. Socket base Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L Cast protection for Socket base INSTALLATION OF FLOOR STRUCTURE When installing prefabricated concrete slabs a movable edge protection is required for safe blockage for other construction personnel. For this the Ground Support Plate is used together with Socket base, Post 1,3 m and Barrier 2,6 L. The Barriers then work as effective and safe blockage while the installation of prefabricated concrete slabs is carried out by workers with personal protection equipment. 14 14 BALCONIES BALCONIES A number of work task are carried out on balconies, and therefore edge protections should be used. A quick installation with the highest possible safety and easy handling of the edge protection facilitates the work task. Delivery of material and connection to building hoists and stair towers are facilitated with this system which is compatible with most scaffolding brands. Vertical bracket Balcony bracket Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L BALCONY BRACKET In order to create a safer construction site the edge protection can be mounted before mounting the pre-manufactured balconies. The ordinary attachment for the balcony railing is used for attaching the Vertical bracket or the Balcony bracket. After this, Post 1,3 m is installed together with Barrier 2,6 L or Barrier 1,3 L or Barrier 1,95 L in order to adapt the edge protection according to the measurements of the balcony. Clamp 300 Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L CLAMPS ON BALCONY EDGES Clamp 300 can be installed on balcony edges as brackets for the edge protection. This clamp is good for a balcony thickness of 300 mm and has an integrated bracket for Post 1,3 m. Depending on the measurements of the balcony, Barrier 2,6 L, Barrier 1,3 L or Barrier 1,95 L is then installed on the post.

15 WALL OPNENINGS 15 WALL OPENINGS LINK BARS AT WALL OPENINGS The wall openings should be secured with edge protections. Wall brackets on each side of the opening together with Adjustable link bars should be used. The Adjustable link bars are available in three different sizes for openings from 0,5 metres up to 2,5 metres. This solution makes it easy to remove and put back the edge protection when various types of work is to be carried out, and it also leaves space for different types of lead-throughs. Using this attachment there is no need for posts and attachment in the slab. The solution makes it simple and fast to open and close the edge protection. Casting is facilitated and one advantage is that repair of edge protection attachments are not required. This solution creates a tighter edge protection in comparison to using Adjustable link bars. 16 16 SHAFT- AND FLOOR OPENINGS SHAFT- AND FLOOR OPENINGS Openings in walls, slabs and shafts are places that are sometimes changed and must be secured against falls. In lift shafts where platform are desired Plateau consoles fastened on the inside of the shaft wall are recommended. Other openings should be considered as an open slab edge and be provided with a suitable attachment such as Socket base, Vertical bracket, etc., and Post and Barrier. At smaller openings Barrier bracket 360 may be used to minimise considerably the number of attachments and the need of posts (see picture above). Socket base Post 1,3 m Barrier bracket 360 Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L FLOOR OPENINGS Floor openings should be considered as an open slab edge and be provided with a suitable attachment such as Socket base, Vertical bracket, etc., and Post and Barrier. Barrier bracket 360 should be mounted in the corners as an attachment for Barriers in all directions. Plateau consoles Console tap PLATFORM LEVEL/WORKING DECKS When you want to create a platform/working deck in a lift shaft you should use Plateau consoles that are fastened to the inside of the shaft wall. When the plateau consoles have been installed, grade timber of correct dimensions should be used to create the platform level.

17 SHAFT- AND FLOOR OPENINGS 17 SHAFT OPENINGS Before the lift is installed in the lift shaft the opening should be protected against falls from the respective floors. It is also important to protect the lift installer and other professionals working in the shaft against falling objects. Lift openings can quickly and easily be secured by using a Wall bracket installed on each side of with Barriers. The lock function of the wall bracket works so that the solution works as a lift gate as well. With this attachment there is no need for posts and customary attachment on the slab. This gives great advantage as repair of edge protection attachments is not required on the slab. 18 18 STAIRS STAIRS A safe edge protection should be immediately created in stairs that are being used, or the stairs should be blocked. As stairs are constantly used in the construction project it is important to use an edge protection system that is safe and can be easily handled. Attachments for posts can be installed before installing prefabricated stairs. Clamp 550 Post 1,3 m Adjustable link bar Barrier bracket 360 INSTALLATION WITHOUT MAKING ANY HOLES With SafetyRespect s edge protection solutions the design of the stairs does not matter. There is always a safe, fast and effective solution. By using Clamp 550 the process of making holes is eliminated when installing edge protections. The clamp can be swivelled and turned around and be installed in one simple operation without damaging the sensitive surface. The clamp has an integrated bracket for Post 1,3 m and Adjustable link bars are installed on the posts.

19 STAIRS 19 ATTACHMENT WITH SOCKET BASE The Socket base can be used as attachment of edge protection in stairs. The Socket base has an integrated bracket for Post 1,3 m. A Stair bracket with spacers makes it possible to let the protection in the stairs during the whole construction period. 20 20 BEAMS AND COLUMNS BEAMS AND COLUMNS When beams and columns are used in building constructions they can be used with great advantage for attaching the edge protection. Creation of open slabs and surfaces in the building process without attachments for the edge protection will facilitate casting and other work tasks. Attachment Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L STEEL BEAMS Pre-installed attachments in the framework onto steel beam considerably facilitate the attachment of the edge protection as the attachment already is in place. The remaining mounting of Posts and Barriers can be done either before lifting the beam or on the slab after attaching the beam. This saves time when doing the attachment, results in a safer working site as the attachment at the slab edge is minimised. It also means that the edge protection will not be a hindrance as other work tasks are to be carried out on the slab. Welding socket Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L WELDING SOCKET When steel beams are used in the building construction a Welding socket with integrated post lock should be designed as an attachment of edge protection. In these cases the Welding socket is welded according to the instructions when producing the steel beams. When the beam has been lifted in place Post 1,3 m and Barrier 2,6 L are mounted. The attachment of the edge protection will become both safer and faster with a pre-fabricated attachment such as this one.

21 BEAMS AND COLUMNS 21 STEEL BEAM CLAMP Using steel beam as attachment creates a free surface on the slab and can be used for other work tasks. The edge protection will then be positioned outside the working space. On steel beams with a flange a Steel beam clamp can be mounted in order to quickly create an attachment for the edge protection. The clamp is designed so that is has jaws that grip the steel beam profile. The steel beam clamp has an integrated attachment for Post 1,3 m. Barrier 2,6 L is installed directly onto the post lock and its height can easily be adjusted in order to facilitate different work tasks. Steel beam clamp Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L THREADED RODS Threaded rods can be welded onto the outside of steel beams in order to create an attachment for different types of edge protection brackets. After doing so a Facade bracket, for example, can be installed together with Post 1,3 m and Barrier 2,6 L. This solution creates a free work surface right out to the slab edge. The facade bracket can also be adjusted in order to increase the distance between the steel beam and the Barrier, for example when installing walls and windows, etc. Welding of pin bolts/threaded rods can be done when producing the steel beams or directly at the working site. 22 22 BEAMS AND COLUMNS Facade bracket Wood screw Post 1,3 m Barrier 1,3 L, 1,95 L, 2,6 L WOODEN BEAMS In building constructions with wooden beams the edge protection can be mounted with various systems and solutions, for example with Flex Facade brackets. The facade bracket is directly mounted on a wooden beam with the required wood screws. When a roof protection is required, a Hall System can be installed in the wood structure. The attachment is then done by using rods. Barrier Alu 3 m Joint pin Pipe coupling Attachment LONG SPANS With designed and pre-installed attachments on columns the installation of the edge protection will be facilitated. To use the available columns and attachments creates a free surface of the slab and can be used for other work tasks. The edge protection will be suspended on the columns above the working surface at a correct height, considering future work to be carried out. If the design of the attachment is not done in advance, there are other attachments available. In such a case, please contact us. SafetyRespect s Barrier Alu 3 m can handle large spans and makes possible installation between columns. The Barriers are continuously jointed with Pipe joints or Pipe couplings without using any attachment on the slab. The Barriers can be raised so that they create a completely free working space required when applying a new surface layer, casting, etc.

Making of holes and threading, or mounting of Threaded welding plates, can be carried out when manufacturing the steel beams. 25 PREFABRICATED MATERIAL 25 EDGE PROTECTION FOR PREFABRICATED MATERIAL Edge protection solutions that are worked in consultation with both the product management and designers create the best conditions as to economy, time and safety. Already at the designing stage we investigate things such as attachments for the edge protection in order to find solutions to the work tasks that are to be carried out by the different professional groups of people or subcontractors. PRE-INSTALLATION ON PREFABRICATED ELEMENTS In order to create a safe working site and save time the edge protection can be installed on prefabricated elements before they are lifted in place. For example, attachments, Post 1,3 m and Barrier 2,6 L can be installed already on the lorry on which the prefabricated elements are transported or on the ground before hoisting them in place. The edge protection will then be in place already when the next working phase is to be started on the building. Installation is fast and safe, and creates better economy as saved time is achieved through more efficient use of building cranes. The Precast holder has an integrated post lock and is casted into the elements at the factory. Protection sleeve is mounted at the desired height at the working site, and is adapted to the casting height/slabs thickness. Post 1,3 m and Barrier 2,6 L are installed either before or after that the prefabricated element is lifted in place. The Barriers can easily be lifted to the desired height when casting. No tools are needed. The products are tested in accordance with EN13374 and meet the dimensioning requirements according to the Euro Code. In constructions with prefabricated slab decks even the Precast edge holder can be installed onto the formworks edge after that the attachment has been pre-designed. The Barrier can be raised on the post in several steps up to 310 mm with maintained safety as the post locking is fully functional. The Cast protection protects the Socket base against concrete scrap from the casting process. As a solution we recommend Barrier Alu 3 m to be jointed continuously with pipe joints and pipe couplings. This type of mounting makes possible great distances between the columns. Attachment to the columns creates a free working space in order to apply a new topping in the form of, for example, casting, etc.

29 CASTING IN SITE 29 CASTING IN SITE With a structure framework cast-in-site there is the possibility of designing attachment points for the edge protection. Socket w rebar with integrated post lock, for example, can be cast into the wall tops in, for instance, house gables, lift- and stair shafts. After this Post 1,3 m and Barriers are installed. In order to be able to build external panel walls from inside the slab Balcony bracket 10 Degrees can be installed as an attachment, which gives an inclination of the edge protection by approximately 10 degrees. Such an example is constructions for industry, sports and commerce. The system has several attachment alternatives and can handle long spans between the attachment points. The system consists of Barrier of aluminium and smart components that offer rapid and safe installation. Hall constructions that are built have a relatively short construction process. That is why it is important that the edge protection that is selected can be quickly installed, be premanufactured, is adjustable and offers fully acceptable protection during work on the roof during the building process. The system takes into consideration the different types of work that are to be carried out as well as the fact that the respective professional category of people working on the building should have good edge protection. The system creates a safe working site when installing load-carrying sheets, roof insulation, waterproof layer, etc. Wall panels and facade elements can be installed with the edge protection in place. The flexibility both in height and sideways, offers solutions that traditional edge protection does not have. The edge protection can be adjusted/ swivelled, which makes possible installation of gutters and similar devises at the eaves. The Barriers of aluminium are attached to posts with the post locking and are jointed continuously with pipe joints or couplings. The edge protection is attached on the outside of the columns. Welding nuts are delivered to the manufacturer of the framework and welded onto the steel columns. The positioning of welding nut is designed in consultation with SafetyRespect. When the edge protection is installed on the columns the working area is totally free to be used for all other work, such as placing the load-carrying sheets, roof insulation, waterproof layer, etc. No damage is thus done to already finished surfaces. The welding nuts are covered by the sheets, pilaster and between the facade panels when they are out in place.

The attachment is carried out either in the middle of or on the side of the beam, between two columns placed close to each other, direct in wooden beams or with casting sleeves.
