1 SECTION TEXTURED COATINGS PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY A. Section includes textured coating for tilt-up panels REFERENCES A. Federal Specification TT-C-555B., Type I and II, GSA Exception. B. NFPA Class A, Uniform Building Code Class 1. C. ASTM B117. D. NFPA 30 - Flammable and Combustible Liquids E. Section requirements as referenced apply to this Section SUBMITTALS A. Submit the following: 1. Product data for each product specified. 2. Product certificates signed by manufacturer stating the product complies with specified requirements. 3. Specimen copy of warranty. B. Comply with the requirements of Section for submittals QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Single Source Responsibility: Obtain coatings from a single B. Before beginning installation, apply textured coatings on actual wall surfaces as indicated below: 1. Cover an entire area between breaks. 2. 2 4. Simulate finished lighting conditions for reviewing field samples Maintain field samples during construction in an undisturbed condition as a standard for judging the completed work. C. Surfaces judged to be unsuitable by A/E shall be rejected. The A/E will direct repair or replacement of rejected work. D. Paint applicator shall be Florida licensed, approved by the manufacturer for application of this product, and shall have previous documented experience on projects similar in scope to this project. E. Refer to Section for pre-construction meeting requirements. Textured coating paint applicator shall attend this meeting. F. Refer to Section for additional requirements pertaining to quality assurance DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Deliver materials in original unopened packages. B. Provide protection from damage and exposure to the elements. C. Keep storage area neat and orderly. D. Refer to Section for additional requirements of delivery, storage, and handling PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Application of the coating shall be applied under the following conditions: 1. Rain is not imminent and surfaces are not damp. 2. Temperature is within 45 to 100 degrees F. 3. Incompatible substrate release agent, form oils, and any foreign matter are removed before priming and coating. 4. Primer exposed to ultraviolet rays for more than four weeks shall be reprimed and coated. 5. Joint sealants shall cure at least 48 hours before priming surfaces. Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

3 1.07 WARRANTY A. Provide limited commercial warranty for product replacement. Notify manufacturer before product application. B. Warranty: Minimum 6 years. PART 2 PART PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Textured Coatings: 1. Textured Coatings of America. 2. Accepted equivalent. B. Accessories shall be standard with the textured coating 2.02 MATERIALS A. Tex-Cote XL-70, spray TEXTURES A. Coarse for exterior application on the outside perimeter of the building. B. Fine for exterior application on the inside of the building, at exterior corridors, and surrounding courtyards. PART 3 PART EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. Surface Preparation: 1. Surfaces shall be sound, clean, and dry before the application of the primer and coating. 2. Dust, dirt, mildew, form oils, and loose substrates and other such surface contaminants shall be thoroughly removed. 3. Painted surfaces exhibiting loose, flaking, or oxidized paint surfaces shall be thoroughly removed by sandblasting, water blasting, electric sanding, or wire brushing as required by the Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

4 4. Surfaces shall be primed, before coating substrates. 5. Cracks: a. Cracks over 1/16" and less than 1/8" shall be filled with TexPatch II Patching Compound. b. Cracks over 1/8", holes, or voids shall be filled with cement patching compound similar to Tex-Bond Cement Adhesive. 6. Patching compound finish texture shall match existing adjacent finish surfaces. 7. Interfacing of wall joints shall be sealed with a polysulfide type sealant. B. Primer: 1. XL Primers shall cure at least 24 hours under ideal weather conditions before any finish coating application. C. All substrates shall be sprayed on. 1. Application of Tex-Cote shall be at uniform pinholefree thickness over the entire surface. 2. A wet edge shall be maintained at all times to prevent lap marks. a. Avoid starting and stopping midway on the wall surface. b. Continue spraying to a natural break point such as a panel edge seam or corner. 3. For large surface areas, 2 simultaneous sprayers are recommended to avoid lap marks and spray patterns. 4. To achieve a proper surface, request the assistance of the manufacturer and application manual for spraying textured coatings. 5. Apply coating at a rate of 30 to 50 square feet per gallon depending upon the porosity of the substrate and finish texture specified. 6. Apply product according to manufacturer's published instructions. D. Cleaning: 1. Use mineral spirits for cleaning wet material. 2. Use methy ethyl ketone (MEK) for cleaning dry material. 5 E. Do not proceed with the work until conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work have been corrected in an acceptable manner to the applicator and the F.
