3 Introduction Concrete roof tiles are one of the most economical roofing materials on the market. Just like concrete bridges and structural elements of buildings, concrete tiles get stronger with curing. Concrete roof tiles are often tested to withstand harsh weather and come in the widest selection of colours and profiles. Protecting these concrete roof tiles from the harsh UV rays and ever changing weather patterns is Terraco Tileshield, a range of concrete roof tile coatings for the tile manufacturer and professional painter or DIY enthusiast. Water-borne Tileshield is an optimal product for coating concrete roof tiles during the manufacturing process or when carrying out maintenance by painting the tile roofs. Tileshield products decrease the effect of water in the structure, reduce degradation of the tiles and biological growth on the surface. These products are produced with the concrete roof tile manufacturers in mind. They use a Wet-on-Dry system process whereby the concrete roof tiles, once they have cured for 21 days, are spray applied with Tileshield before being oven dried. The standard colours are tinted with non-organic pigments, which ensures the excellent colour durability. However, bespoke colours can be produced for concrete roof tile manufacturers to their specifications. These products are also suitable for use on fibre cement roof sheets. Surface Preparation For new concrete roof tiles the manufacturer must ensure that all dust, dirt and foreign matter is brushed away. Also ensure that the surface is free from salt, oil, releasing agents and dust. Prime surface with Terraco Penetrating primer or, depending on the Tileshield product used, dilute the first coat 50:50 with clean water. For roof maintenance of existing concrete roof tiles, it is best to pressure wash the surface prior to painting to remove all dust, dirt and foreign matter, and ensure that the surface is free from salt, oil and grease. Once dry apply one coat of Terraco P Primer or, dilute the first coat of Tileshield 50:50 with clean water. Warranty Tileshield will not crack or peel, will remain flexible, colour stable and offer surface protection for over 10 years.
