Technical Product Information Weight Maximum lifting Capacity Working Clamp Pressure 550kg 1500kg 750psi Arrival at site Prior to unfolding the crane on site a safe area must be created. This area must be coned off to stop any persons entering the area. If a second crew member is present he must ensure no one enters the area while the crane is being folded or unfolded. The clamp with the clamp plates removed is transported, attached to the boom of the crane and fixed into position with the retaining hook. On arrival at site, the crane is unfolded and the clamp plates fitted before use. All crane operation must be via the remote control unit. When working in an area where remote control is prohibited the umbilical cord must be used. Clamp in transport position. No other method of storage permitted Clamp sitting on the transport hook fixed to the boom. Clamp plates must be removed for transport Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 2

Clamp plates in transport position The legs are deployed prior to the crane being unfolded To lift the crane the height restrictor button must be depressed or the crane will lock out On certain vehicles the button has been replaced with a key in this case the key must be turned into the off position Lift the crane from the transport position, so that is just clears the mount and rotate to the rear of the vehicle. 5 Extend the jib section to release the jib section and start to unfold it, leaving the main boom in the same position. As the jib reaches vertical extend the jib section to release the clap from its storage hook. With the clamp released continue to unfold the jib section leaving the main boom in the same position Continue to unfold the jib section and lower the main boom slightly. 6 Lower the jib section until the clamp sits on the floor Keeping the clamp on the floor raise the main boom at the same time lower the jib section. As the mechanical advantage of the crane changes a loud click will be heard. The crane is now ready to operate. To ensure safe operation the jib and boom must always have a slight bend to ensure the mechanical advantage remains Clamp in position for the fitting of the clamp plates. The clamp safety catches are opened and two men lift the clamp plate into position Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 5

While the plate is held in position one of, the two-man team insert the locating pin. The safety pin is now placed through the hole in the end of the locating pin. The clamp is now ready for use To open the clamp or safety catches the safety button has to be depressed at the same time as the operating leaver. 8 Lifting Before lifting any panels the panel guide has to be set to the required number of panels 1 to 4 The clamp is lowered over the panel / panels to be lifted in a central position The full length of the clamp plate must be used to lift the panel. The clamps lifting paddles should be as close to the panel / panels as possible. Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 7

The clamp should be lowered until the panel guides touch the top surface of the panel. As the clamp is closed the crane must be raised as the action of the clamp closing increases the space required by the clamp. Once full pressure has been applied to the clamp plates the safety catches will start to deploy at this point no further pressure should be applied The panels are lifted 50mm off the ground or stack and the clamp lever pressed again as if to add more pressure to the clamp this will close the safety catches Safety clamp fully closed. Panels now safe to lift. Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 8

Lowering When the panels are around 50mm from the ground or panel stack, the clamp release lever and safety button are operated to release the safety catches. Once they are open and clear of the panels the lift is lowered to the ground and then the panel clamp fully opened. Once released the clamp is lifted clear. Each panel type is installed following the above and the VMS for the panel type to be installed Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 9

Folding and Storing the Clamp for Transport Remove and store the panel clamp plates in the reverse of the above method Place the clamp on the ground to the rear of the vehicle with the jib and boom in a straight position Start to raise the Jib section it will make a click as it goes over centre Continue to raise the jib section As the jib is approaching vertical extend the end jib section to allow the clamp to sit over the storage bracket When vertical the pocket on the underside of the clamp will line up with the storage bracket at this point retract the end jib section to secure the clamp Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 10

Continue to fold the jib section Extend the jib section to allow the cranes locking system to be engaged Stow the folded crane clamp onto the travel bracket. This is the only position that the vehicle can travel on a public highway. Visual Method Statement: Panel Lifting Clamp Issue 4 11
