3 Solid Color Decking Stains #1800 Series with Teflon Surface Protector APPLICATION Surface Preparation: Proper surface preparation is the key to maximum product performance. The durability of this product can be impaired by an unsound or poorly prepared surface. It is very important that the surface be clean of all dirt and sufficiently dry. (Moisture content must be below 15%, or wood must be exposed to dry weather a minimum of 3 to 5 days.) Previously painted, stained or weathered wood surfaces should be scrubbed with Cabot Problem-Solver Wood Cleaner and a stiff bristle brush. Cabot Problem-Solver Wood Brightener can be used to easily remove nail and metal rust stains, stains caused by extractive bleeding, and renew the wood s appearance. Use Cabot Problem-Solver Strippers (8004 & 8005) to safely remove all stains and paints from wood surfaces in order to prevent product failure and to create a sound surface for maximum adhesion. Power washing has proven to be effective in removing the surface layer of all loose wood fibers, dirt, chalky residue, flaking paint and stain and other foreign matter. Weathered Wood: Reconditioned wood requires the use of Cabot Problem-Solver Oil Primer prior to topcoating with Cabot Solid Color Decking Stain. New Masonry: Allow new masonry surfaces to cure for 30 days before coating with Solid Color Decking Stain. Application of Coating: Stirring: Stir thoroughly before and occasionally while using. If the job requires more than one batch, blend them together. Methods: Apply evenly with a brush, roller, paint pad or spray. When rolling or spraying, always backbrush immediately to ensure uniformity. Best results can be obtained by using a high-quality nylon brush. To avoid non-uniform appearances start at one edge of a few boards and continue all the way to the end. Spray Application: Recommended tip sizes and adjustments for spray application are at PSI with a fan width of 5-8 inches; one gun. When using HVLP spray equipment, see manual for proper set-up instructions. Number of Coats: Two coats are highly recommended for maximum durability. Some colors may require additional coats for complete hiding. Precautions: This product performs best when applied to decks that are at least 18 inches above grade. Floor coatings can become slippery when wet. Use extreme caution when walking on a surface that is wet, especially when temperatures fall below freezing. NOTICE: Dark colors derived from tinting Neutral Base #1806 may show scuff or scratch marks more easily than light colors. In addition, dark colors absorb and retain more heat than light colors when exposed to severe sunlight. 8 1128 KEL-SEAL (cont.) Heavily chalked or powdery surfaces should be made sound by sandblasting or other appropriate method and then primed with 239 Kel-Bond II. Heavily textured or porous concrete block should be filled first to achieve a relatively smooth surface, free of voids, with one coat of Kel-Seal Acrylic Terpolymer Coating rolled into the surface for best filling action. Do not apply when material, air, and/or surface temperature is below 50 F or if rain is expected within 72 hours. Extremely high or low temperature or periods of high relative humidity may adversely affect dry time. Two coats are required for optimum performance. Stir thoroughly before and during use. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks. In order to achieve a waterproof wall, the coating must be applied in a continuous unbroken film, free of pinholes and voids. When sprayed on rough or porous surfaces, back-rolling procedure is recommended to fill holes more efficiently. This product must be applied at the recommended film thickness to achieve proper cure. Special Precautions: Always test for compatibility and adhesion when used over previously coated surfaces. When applied by roller, minimize roller marks by finishing roller passes all in downward direction. Clean equipment thoroughly with water immediately after use. Note: It is difficult to achieve a uniform finish with mastic paints of this type. Therefore, an experienced applicator is required. Uniformity and texture pattern are affected by film thickness, substrate, application method and climatic conditions: therefore, the manufacturer assumes no responsibility for the finished appearance. Thinning Apply at can consistency. If thinning is necessary to maintain workability, do not exceed one-half pint of water per gallon. Warranty KELLY-MOORE PAINT COMPANY, INC. warrants the effectiveness of 1128 Kel-Seal Acrylic Terpolymer Coating as a water repellent coating on above grade, vertical, exterior masonry, concrete and stucco surfaces to the extent of material replacement only when applied properly and in accordance with the manufacturer's printed literature.
