SECTION VISUAL DISPLAY SURFACES PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 Summary: Section includes Chalkboards, Markerboards, Tackboards and Related Accessories References A. General: Submit listed submittals in accordance with Conditions of the Contract and Division 1 Submittal Procedures Section. B. Product Data: Submit product data and installation instructions, including manufacturer s SPEC-DATA product sheet, for specified products. C. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings for each type of visual display board required, showing layout, profiles and product components, including anchorage, accessories, finish 1

2 colors, patterns and textures. D. Samples: Submit selection and verification samples of face, core, backing material and trim for finishes, colors and textures. Submit manufacturer s color charts. E. Quality Assurance/Control Submittals: Submit the following: 1. Certificates: Product certificates signed by manufacturer certifying materials comply with specified performance characteristics and criteria and physical requirements. F. Closeout Submittals: Submit the following: 1. Operation and Maintenance Data: Submit operation and maintenance data for installed products in accordance with Division 1 Closeout Submittals (Maintenance Data and Operation Data) Section Quality Assurance A. Installer Qualifications: Installer experienced in performing work of this section who has specialized in installation of work similar to that required for this project. B. Regulatory Requirements: Conform to applicable code for flame/smoke rating in tackboards in accordance with ASTM E Delivery, Storage and Handling A. General: Comply with Division 1 Product Requirements Sections. B. Ordering: Comply with manufacturer s ordering instructions and lead-time requirements to avoid construction delays. C. Delivery: Deliver materials in manufacturer s original, unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact. D. Deliver factory built units completely assembled in 1 piece without joints whenever possible. Where dimensions exceed panel size, provide 2 or more pieces of equal length as acceptable at the factory, disassemble for delivery, and make final joints at the jobsite. Use H-bar at joints to maintain alignment. E. Storage and Protection: Store materials protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions and at temperature and humidity conditions recommended by manufacturer. F. After opening and inspecting boards for damage, return them to their original crates or cartons for storage and do not uncrate until boards are to be installed. 1. When uncrated, do not allow boards to lean at an angle against a wall or other objects, or to lie on the floor for any length of time. 2. Store boards in as close to a vertical position as possible. 2

3 1.06 Project Conditions A. Environmental Requirements: Comply with manufacturer s recommendations for stabilizing area to the approximate normal occupied conditions of interior temperature and humidity. B. Existing Conditions: 1. Verify actual dimensions by field measurement before fabrication; show recorded measurements on shop drawings. 2. Coordinate field measurements and fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid construction delays Warranty A. Manufacturer s Warranty: Submit, for Owner s acceptance, manufacturer s standard warranty document executed by authorized company official. Manufacturer s warranty is in addition to, and not a limitation of, other rights Owner may have under Contract Documents. 1. Submit a Warranty, stating that under normal usage and maintenance, and when installed in accordance with manufacturer s instructions and recommendations, Steel-Rite Chalkboards and Pro-Rite Markerboards are guaranteed for the life of the building. Guarantee covers replacement of defective boards but does not include cost of removal or reinstallation. 2. Warranty Period: 10 years commencing on Date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 Chalkboards, Marker Boards, Tackboards and Accessories A. Manufacturer: Marsh Industries, Inc. Factory-Built Tackboards See drawings for quantities and locations. a. 4 4) Panel Size: 4-feet wide X 4-feet high Fabrication: Provide factory assembled chalkboard, markerboard and tackboard units, except where field assembled units are required Source Quality: Obtain materials from a single manufacturer Finishes A. Anodized Finish: Class II, clear anodic coating complying with AAMA PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Manufacturer s Instructions A. Compliance: Comply with manufacturer s product data, including product technical bulletins, product catalog installation instructions and product carton instructions for installation Examination A. Site Verification of Conditions: Verify substrate conditions, which have been previously installed under other sections, are acceptable for product installation in accordance with manufacturer s instructions. B. Verify that interior temperature and humidity approximate normal conditions of building occupancy. C. Verify that wall surfaces are prepared and ready to receive boards Installation A. General: Do not install boards on damp walls or in damp and humid weather without heat in the building. B. Install level and plumb, keeping perimeter trim straight in accordance with manufacturer s recommendations. C. Adhesive: 1. L-Clip Installation - Manufacturer recommends the use of a quality construction adhesive (tackable units only) to ensure the integrity of the installation. Apply Two (2) golf ball size spots evenly spaced in height at ~ 48 o.c. on the back of the tackable surface. 2. Hanger-Bar Installation - Manufacturer recommends the use of a quality 4

5 construction adhesive (tackable units only) to ensure the integrity of the installation. Apply One (1) golf ball size spot of a quality construction adhesive to each blocking pad. D. Verify that accessories are installed as required for each unit Cleaning A. Remove temporary coverings and protection of adjacent work areas. B. Repair or replace damaged installed products. C. Clean installed products in accordance with manufacturer s instructions prior to owner s acceptance. D. Remove construction debris from project site and legally dispose of debris. E. At completion of work, clean surfaces and trim in accordance with manufacturer s recommendations, leaving all materials ready for use. F. Chalk in boards as prescribed (if required) before using Protection: Protect installed product and finish surfaces from damage during construction. SECTION FLAGPOLE PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Scope of Work A. Provide aluminum flagpole as shown on drawings and as specified herein, with components as needed for a complete installation. B. Related Sections: Section 03010, Concrete Work 1.02 Performance Requirements A. Structural Performance: Provide flagpole capable of withstanding the effects of wind loads as determined according to NAAMM FP , Guide Specifications for Design of Metal Flagpoles or to 120 MPH wind loads, whichever is more stringent. B. Base flagpole design on maximum 4-feet tall X 6-feet wide flag Submittals 5

6 A. Product Data: For each type of flagpole submit manufacturer s technical data and standard installation instructions. B. Shop Drawings: Show general layout, jointing, anchorage, support systems and accessories. C. Samples: Submit finish samples for each finished metal used on flagpoles Quality Assurance A. Obtain each flagpole as a complete unit from American Flagpole, including fittings, accessories, bases and anchorage devices Delivery, Storage and Handling A. General: Spiral wrap flagpoles with a heavy Kraft paper or other lightweight wrapping and enclose in a hard fiber tube or protective measures. Store bare flagpoles in a dry location, protected from the weather and moisture, as recommended by the manufacturer. B. Ship to project site in one piece. If more than one piece is necessary for shipment, provide snug-fitting precision joints with self-aligning, internal splicing sleeve arrangements for weather tight, hairline filed joints. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Manufacturer American Flagpole Hillman Highway Abingdon, VA P) F) Flagpole Type and Construction A. Aluminum Flagpole Construction: Fabricate from seamless, extruded tubing complying with ASTM B 221, alloy 6063-T6, having a tensile strength not less than 30,000 psi with a yield point of 25,000 psi. Heat treat after fabrication to comply with ASTM B 597, temper T6. 1. Provide cone-tapered flagpoles, per manufacturer s standard rate of taper. B. Assembly Construction: Internal Cam Cleat Shoe Base flagpole, 25-feet nominal mounting height, with a minimum base wall thickness of in., and a 6-inch butt diameter. Ship to project site in one piece Mounting 6

7 A. Foundation Tube: Galvanized corrugate steel foundation tube,.0635 inch (16-gauge) minimum wall thickness, sized to suit flagpole and installation. Provide with 3/16 inch steel bottom plate and steel centering wedges all welded together. Furnish with 3/16 inch support plate, 3/4 inch diameter X 18 inch long steel ground spike, all welded construction Fittings A. Finial Ball: Manufacturer s standard flush seam ball, sized to match mole butt diameter inch spun aluminum with gold anodized finish. B. Single Stationary Truck Assembly: Cast aluminum non-fouling with two pulleys and pins, provided with three set screws for attachment to pole. C. Cam Cleat Halyard Assembly: 5/16 inch diameter, braided polypropylene halyard, plastic coated counterweight and sling assembly. Manually operated cam cleat with stainless steel fasteners mounted to aluminum plate. Cam cleat shall be concealed inside the flagpole behind a flush access door having a cylinder lock and continuous piano hinge. D. Halyard Flag Snaps: Provide two (2) swivel snap hooks per halyard in chrome-plated bronze. E. Collar: Manufacturer s standard spun aluminum flash collar to match flagpole. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Preparation A. Excavation: For foundation, excavate neat and clean lines in undisturbed soil. Remove loose soil and foreign matter from excavation and moisten earth before placing concrete. B. Provide forms where required due to unstable soil conditions and for perimeter of flagpole base at grade. Secure forms, foundation tube, fiberglass sleeve, or anchor bolts in position and brace to prevent displacement during concreting. C. Place concrete immediately after mixing. Compact concrete in place by using vibrators. Moist-cure exposed concrete for not less than 7 days or use a non-staining curing compound. D. Trowel exposed concrete surfaces to a smooth, dense finish, free of trowel marks and uniform in texture and appearance. Provide positive slope for water runoff at base perimeter Flagpole Installation 7

8 A. General: Install flagpoles where shown and according to shop drawings and manufacturer s written instructions. B. Foundation Tube Installation: Install flagpole in foundation tube, seated on bottom plate between steel centering wedges. Plumb flagpole and install hardwood wedges to secure flagpole in place. Place and compact sand in foundation tube and remove hardwood wedges. Seal top of foundation tube with a 2-inch layer of elastomeric sealant and cover with flashing collar. SECTION SIGNS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Scope: Furnish letters and hardware necessary to install cast letters shown on drawings and herein specified Submittals A. Manufacturer's illustrated product literature and specifications. B. Installation instructions Quality Assurance A. Manufacturer to have a minimum of 20 years experience in manufacturing sign letters. B. All letters to be manufactured by single source. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Manufacturers A. Gemini Inc., 103 Mensing Way, Cannon Falls, MN 55009, PH Materials (Metal Alloys) A. Aluminum. B. Letter Size: 6-inches high PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Installation: A. General: Locate sign units and accessories where indicated, using mounting methods of the type described and in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions. Install signs level, plumb, and at the height indicated, with sign surfaces free from distortion or other defects in appearance. B. Dimensional letters and numbers: Mount letters and numbers using standard fastening methods recommended by the manufacturer for letter form, type of mounting, wall construction, and condition of exposure indicated. Provide heavy paper template to establish letter spacing and to locate holes for fasteners. C. Projected mounting: Mount letters with a projection distance from the wall surface of 3/4" Cleaning and protection: After installation, clean soiled sign surfaces according to the manufacturer's instructions. Protect units from damage until acceptance by the Owner Warranty: Letters to have "lifetime" guarantee against defects. SECTION FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, CABINETS AND ACCESSORIES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Section Includes: Fire extinguishers, fire extinguisher cabinets and accessories References A. NFPA 10 Portable Fire Extinguishers B. ADA Accessibility Guidelines C. UBC Standard 7-5 (ASTM E ): Fire-rated cabinet option for combustible and non-combustible walls. 9

10 1.03 Submittals A. Submit under provisions of Section B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets to include rough-in dimensions, details showing mounting methods, relationships of box and trim to surrounding construction, door hardware, cabinet type and materials, trim style, door construction, panel style and materials Quality Assurance A. Conform to NFPA 10 requirements for portable fire extinguishers. B. Provide fire extinguishers, cabinets and accessories from single manufacturer. C. Coordination: Verify that cabinets are sized to accommodate type and capacity of extinguishers that comply with authorities having jurisdiction. D. UL-Listed Products: Fire extinguishers shall be UL listed with UL listing mark for type, rating and classification of extinguisher Delivery, Storage and Handling A. Deliver fire extinguishers, cabinets and accessories in manufacturer's original protective shipping containers or packaging with labels intact and legible. B. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Manufacturers A. Acceptable Manufacturer: Larsen s Manufacturing Co., 7421 Commerce Lane N.E., Minneapolis, MN 55432; PH: (763) or (800) B. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section Fire Extinguishers: Provide fire extinguishers for each cabinet and other locations indicated, in colors and finishes selected by Architect from manufacturer s standard, that comply with authorities having jurisdiction Mounting Brackets: Designed to prevent accidentally dislodging extinguisher, of sizes required for type and capacity of extinguisher indicated, in plated finish. Provide for 10

11 extinguishers not located in cabinets as well as those located in cabinets Cabinets A. Construction: Manufacturer s standard box, with trim, frame, door and hardware to suit cabinet type, trim style and door style indicated. Weld joints and grind smooth. Miter and weld perimeter door frames. B. Fire-Rated Cabinets: UL listed with UL listing mark with fire-resistance rating of wall where it is installed. C. Cabinet Types: 1. FEC (Fire Extinguisher Cabinet) Type 1: Larsen s Model # 2409-SM, Architectural Series, surface mounted, no trim, Vertical Duo door, laminated safety glass, baked white enamel finish, steel door and cabinet, and recessed door handle. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Examination A. Examine walls and partitions for thickness and framing for cabinets to verify cabinet depth and mounting prior to cabinet installation. B. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected Installation: A. Follow manufacturer s printed instructions for installation. B. Install in locations and at mounting heights indicated or, if not indicated, at heights to comply with applicable regulations of governing authorities. 1. Prepare recesses in walls for cabinets as required by type and size of cabinet and style of trim and to comply with manufacturer s instructions. 2. Fasten mounting brackets and cabinets to structure, square and plumb. SECTION TOILET and BATH ACCESSORIES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Scope: This section includes all material and installation for toilet and bath accessory items as scheduled. 11

12 1.02 Submittals: A. Product data for each toilet accessory item specified, including construction details relative to materials, dimensions, gages, profiles, mounting method, specified options, and finishes. B. Maintenance instructions including replaceable parts and service recommendations Quality assurance: A. Inserts and anchorages: Furnish accessory manufacturers' standard inserts and anchoring devices that must be set in concrete or built into masonry. Coordinate delivery with other work to avoid delay. B. Single-source responsibility: Provide products of same manufacturer for each type of accessory unit and for units exposed to view in same areas, unless otherwise acceptable to Architect Project conditions: Coordinate accessory locations, installation, and sequencing with other work to avoid interference with, and ensure proper installation, operation, adjustment, cleaning, and servicing of, toilet accessory items. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Acceptable manufacturers: All products listed are by Bradley Corporation. Verify all selections with Owner prior to ordering Paper Towel Dispensers: Provide surface-mounted paper towel dispenser, Bradley Model # Mounting height off floor to top of unit: 60 inches Toilet Tissue Dispensers: Provide surface-mounted, multi-roll dispenser, Bradley Model # 523. Mounting height off floor to top of unit: 19 ¾ inches ADA Toilet Stalls/Restroom Grab Bars: Provide Bradley #812 Series, satin finish, 18-gauge, type 304 stainless steel tubing in 1-1/2" diameter with concealed mounting; One (1) Model # Provide in safety grip non-slip surface. See drawings for grab bar layout. Mounting height off floor to centerline of grab bar: 36 inches Mirror Units: Provide Bradely Model # tilted mirror units at all handicapped sinks. Mounting height off floor to top of unit: 68 inches. (All other vanities to have plate glass mirrors per DIVISION 8.) PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Materials: 12

13 A. Stainless steel: ANSI type 302/304, with polished NO. 4 finish, 0.034" (22 gauge) minimum thickness. B. Fasteners: Screws, bolts, and other devices of same material as accessory unit, or of galvanized steel where concealed Fabrication: A. Surface-mounted toilet accessories, general: Except where otherwise indicated, fabricate units with tight seams and joints, exposed edges rolled. Hang doors or access panels with continuous stainless steel piano hinge. Provide concealed anchorage wherever possible. B. Framed mirror units, general: Fabricate frames for glass mirror units to accommodate wood, felt, plastic, or other glass edge protection material. Provide mirror backing and support system that will permit rigid, tamperproof glass installation and prevent moisture accumulation. Provide system for mounting mirror units that will permit rigid, tamperproof, and theft-proof installation. C. Keys: Provide universal keys for access to toilet accessory units requiring internal access for servicing, resupply, etc. Provide minimum of six keys to Owner's representative Installation: A. Install toilet accessory units according to manufacturer's instruction, using fasteners appropriate to substrate as recommended by unit manufacturer. Install units plumb and level, firmly anchored in locations and at heights indicated or per industry standards. B. Secure mirrors to walls in concealed, tamperproof manner with special hangers, toggle bolts, or screws. Set units plumb, level, and square at locations indicated, according to manufacturer's instructions for type of substrate involved. Provide proper angle at mirror units for handicapped viewing. C. Install grab bars to withstand a downward load of at least 250 lb., complying with ASTM F Adjusting and cleaning: A. Adjust toilet accessories for proper operation and verify that mechanisms function smoothly. Replace damaged or defective items. B. Clean and polish all exposed surfaces strictly according to manufacturer's recommendations after removing temporary labels and protective coatings. End of DIVISION 10 - SPECIALTIES 13
