1 ALLIANZ FIELD PROJECT NEWSLETTER January 2018 Edition PROJECT UPDATE Welcome to the January 2018 edition of the Allianz Field project newsletter! As the project enters the new year the structure is really taking form. Key milestones include: Cast-in-place concrete is complete on the service level. The First steel truss for the canopy was erected and girders will continue through June. MEP Coordination is 85% complete with only areas H, A, & B left to coordinate. Scheduled to be fully coordinated on February 6th. Everyone at Allianz is extremely excited to be a part of this stadium and we can t thank you enough for all the hard work you guys have done and continue to do. - Julia Gutz Moller, Assistant Vice President, US Marketing Allianz Life Insurance Overall view from drone East Stadia on Grade and Steel Rakers Installed South Concourse looking West

2 VIRTUAL DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION Precast & Steel Model Coordination. Being prefabricated off-site, steel and precast coordination is crucial and in order to ensure the two systems interface correctly, both are 3D modeled to a high level of detail. As the modeling process takes place the coordination begins. With the use of Autodesk Navisworks, we are able to bring in both system s models and virtually fly around a full scale model to inspect connection details and constructability. With this software we can clash the two systems against each other to ensure the pieces will fit together when they are delivered to the project site. Once the steel is erected we start to verify the layout & elevation by shooting as-built points at key parts of the steel that will receive the precast to ensure that what was coordinated in the model is in fact how the systems are installed on site. MEP COORDINATION Virtual coordination of the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems in Allianz Field is near completion, and has already been paying dividends by saving in labor costs. By accurately coordinating the MEP systems virtually prior to construction, the MEP trades were able to use GPS to lay out and install hanger inserts into the concrete deck formwork (above Service Level) before the concrete deck was poured. In addition to improving safety, this eliminated hundreds, if not thousands, of threaded rods that would otherwise have been hand-drilled into the concrete from below to support piping, ductwork, and conduit. Harris Mechanical and Gephart Electric are well underway with rough-in installation at the Service Level, and underground MEP installation throughout the stadium will be wrapping up soon. 3 SAFETY UPDATE This month we had a job wide safety lunch for all the field workers on site. This project is committed to having a job wide safety lunch every 60 days. Safety lunches are one way we can give back to the field workers for their hard work they are putting in and is a time we can have all field workers in one spot. We are committed to recognizing the work that is being put in place by the field, and is a great opportunity to get owners in front of the field so that they can see who is building their dreams and future. The field worker size will continue to grow as more scopes of work start and will peak out around 400. Project Wide Safety Lunch Safety Gift from MN United COMMUNITY OUTREACH Stewardship being one of Mortenson s values, we make it a priority to be a part of the communities that we build in. Whether it is putting on food drives or volunteering, we want the communities in which we build in to know we aren t there to just build the project and be done. We are there to engage the community to hopefully stimulate the economy. One way we have been able to give back at Allianz field is through a partnership with Open Hands. Open hands serves the St. Paul, Midway area by leveraging contributors gifts in providing a means for those who are economically challenged to obtain nutritious meals, clothing, household goods, groceries and personal supplies, along with access to an array of community resources. Every other Monday from 12-2:00 pm, four to six team members volunteer serving Monday Meals, giving out groceries and clothing to those in need. It has been a fantastic opportunity for us as a project team to get to know the community we are working in all while giving back. We look forward to our continued partnership with Open Hands in the months to come. Another stewardship opportunity the project team had was through the Keystone Community Services Holiday Drive! Together we donated 766 pounds of food and personal items and a monetary donation of $792. The manager at Keystone was extremely surprised and grateful for the donations as the shelves were starting to become empty. Way to go team!

4 COMPANY SPOTLIGHT Harris Companies Founded in St. Paul, MN in 1948, Harris has grown to become one of the largest mechanical contractors in the United States with over 1,000 employees in 11 locations throughout the country. Harris designs, builds, controls, and maintains plumbing, piping, process piping and HVAC systems for commercial, institutional and industrial customers offering complete design-build and design-assist services for projects that vary in size, scope, and complexity. From educational facilities, to stadiums and concert halls, to historic landmark buildings, to hospitals and industrial facilities, Harris works closely with entire construction project teams and draws on the expertise of a skilled, diverse and dedicated workforce. They focus on implementing differentiators that are important to the customers, and leveraging expertise and resources across the entire organization. With this approach, Harris has been able to deliver quality projects that meet and exceed expectations while building strong relationships along the way. As a result, Harris has experienced considerable growth and has been increasingly recognized as a leader in the marketplace for creative solutions, sustainable construction, and modeling and fabrication efficiency while maintaining a commitment to a Safety First culture. SHOP FABRICATION MODEL COORDINATION SHOP DRAWING Pre-fabrication is not a new idea when it comes to construction. It is however becoming more and more important to meet tighter construction schedules and the competitive market that we are a part of. By increasing the amount of work we can perform in a controlled environment (as in our fab shop), we can produce a more consistent and higher quality product. This benefits the project by reducing safety related risks by having less man power at the physical job site, and installing more material in less time. With today s technology, we build the project with CAD programs that gives us a virtual reality view of exactly what is to be physically installed. We then convert this into fabrication drawings. At Allianz Field, pre-fabricating the plumbing systems is a great example of how hundreds of components can be brought in and set in place in hours that normally would have taken days or weeks to build on site.

5 PROCUREMENT MAP One of the most crucial elements of an ontime and on-budget construction project is the planning and sequencing of the work in relation to the project schedule. This map enables us to identify long lead items. Some items take a considerable amount of time to acquire, implement or fabricate. Allianz Field has materials and products coming from all over the U.S., and when these items arrive to the project site on time, it is a testament to the teams planning capabilities.
