3 A. Work Overview Narrative: The Kernan Addition & Renovation Project began in mid-april Foundations were constructed, and completed in late-june/early-july despite inclement weather and encountering unsuitable soils. Structural Steel construction began on 7/10/17, and was substantially completed by mid-september. Unit masonry work was completed as required for timely installation of structural steel. Elevated floor slab utility rough-in s (Mech./Elect./Plumbing) began the week of 8/21/17 at the 2 nd & 3 rd floors, followed by 2 nd floor concrete slab pours on 9/20 & 9/2, and 3 rd floor slab completed on 10/4/17. Exterior perimeter metal wall framing was complete on 10/20/17, with temporary exterior sheathing and enclosure achieved on 11/7/17. Permanent roofing at the main roof began the week of 10/16/17, and water-tight was achieved on 11/3/17 (w/ rain leaders installed). Remaining roofs were complete 11/10/17. Interior metal wall framing was significantly complete by early-november, with 1 st floor utility infrastructure underway, advancing to the 2 nd floor in mid-november. Temporary heat was operational on 11/15/17, followed by drywall installations including taping and mudding progressing to all floors. Following water-tight enclosure, scaffolding and plastic was installed to facilitate the installation of unit masonry veneer. Veneer CMU and brick work began the week of 11/6/17, and was complete by 3/1/18. The Academic Floors (1 st & 2 nd ) were finish coat painted by 3/23/18 w/ exception of the Cafeteria. Ceramic and porcelain tiling operations began in mid-february are significantly complete. Unit Ventilators (UV s) w/ shelving and ceiling grids were installed and 98% complete by 3/16/18. VCT installations were completed in the Classrooms 3/23/18, with marker boards, and final finishes currently being installed. Page 3

25 2. Kernan ES PART 2A (Abatement ) & PART 2B (GC) Updates A. Update: Part 2 includes the abatement & demolition of the 1913 Building and the completion of the Admin/BOE Parking lot. Part 2 is being bid as 2 Prime contracts. Part 2A is the contract for the abatement and Part 2 B will be a General Construction contract that will include Demolition and Site Work subs. Bids for Part 2A - Abatement This project was publicly advertised and 3 contractors attended the Pre-Bid walk-thru held on March 6 th. A 2 nd Pre-bid walk thru contractor was conducted on March 16 th as 2 more contractors had expressed interested in looking at this project. Bids were received on March 20 th and the Resolution for the award of this contract is included in this month s Superintendent s Report for review and approval. Bids for Part 2B - Demolition, General Construction & Site Work This project was publicly advertised on March 16 th and the Pre-Bid walk-thru is scheduled for March 22 nd and bids are due on April 10 th. The Resolution for the award of this contract will be presented for review and approval by the BOE at the April 17 th BOE Meeting. In the event that we do not receive 3 bids, it will be critically important that the contract for this work be awarded at the BOE Meeting on April 10th, as a rebid of this contract could delay the completion of Part 2 of the Kernan project, thereby pushing the currently anticipated completion date and relocation of the Admin/BOE offices past the Summer Page 23

26 2. Kernan ES PART 2A (Abatement ) & PART 2B (GC) Updates A. Work Overview Narrative: Part 2A Abatement Contractor: Work includes a multi-phased Abatement of the Existing 1913 Academic Classroom Building, beginning Summer 2018, extending over the UCSD February 2019 Break, and ending at the end of the UCSD April 2019 Break. Part 2B General Contractor: Work includes a multi-phased Demolition of the Existing 1913 Academic Classroom Building, beginning Summer 2018 (post abatement), and completion in early Summer During the Summer 2018, the existing 1950 s Connector Building stair will be demolished, a new permanent interior stair and corridor constructed with exiting to the Warren Street side of the building, as required by code. After the Demolition of the remaining portion of the Existing 1913 Academic Classroom Building in Summer 2019, work will include façade replacement at the east-end of the 1950 s Building Connector, and various masonry repairs. The New Administrative Parking Lot work will begin during the Summer 2019 with: site clearing and demolition, site grading, earth removals, existing utility disconnects, new underground infrastructure, and rough grading. The Parking Lot, Landscape and Playground will be complete by late-fall Page 24
