The Complete Waterproofing Solution over Shower Trays and Baths

1 Sealux Shower Kit Materials: 1) 3 No. Sealux Reg 20 Profiles 2) 1 No. Tube Sealux-N 3) Strip End Caps & Spatula 4) Alcohol Wipes 2 Tools required.

3 Protect shower tray or bath base.

4 This tutorial relates to a 2 sided installation wherein 2 outer strips are installed. In a 3 sided installation the first strip installed will be the middle strip. Measure the length required and mitre cut both ends. Outer strips should extend to the outside face of the shower door wall profile. This point should be marked on the walls.

5 Mitre cut all strips being installed. 6 Remove saw cut frays.

7 Dry fit strips and after ensuring all mitre cuts meet flush, mark and cut the outer strip ends. 9 If the strip outer edge does not rest on the ledge when fitted, score the removable leg and tear it off Wipe ledge to ensure a strong bond is achieved with Sealux-N.

11 15mm Using a strip off-cut, apply 4 marks to each side wall and an adjacent mark on the ledge to define the position for the Sealux-N on the wall and the strip outside edge on the ledge Draw a continuous line through the marks applied on the walls.

14 Holding the first strip upside down, apply a 400mm line of Sealux-N onto the green bond-breaker tape lining the underside strip surface. In a 3 sided installation this first strip will be the middle strip. 15 Level the Sealux-N across the strip resting the spatula on spatula support leg and strip outer edge. Repeat both processes until strip is complete.

16 Using finger tip under nozzle against wall as a guide, lay a line of Sealux-N on the ledge just inside the marks defining the strip outer edge position. 17 Lay a light bead of Sealux-N on the wall over the line drawn. 18 Rotate the strip into position fusing the Sealux-N in the strip with the Sealux-N on ledge. Press the strip up-stand firmly against wall to form solid bond.

19 Repeat the same installation method for the remaining strips Ensure the Sealux-N is slightly proud of mitre cuts to ensure it fuses around corners inside meeting strips.

22 Strips may be adjusted before Sealux-N cures Flush up Sealux-N at strip ends and fix end caps if required. Remove any excess Sealux-N on the ledge with spatula (if any). Give the strip and ledge a final wipe.

25 Installation now ready for BWP1 waterproofing.

26 Waterproofing Kit Materials 1) APD Priming Coat 2) WP1 Waterproofing Coat 3) Polyester Tape 4) Polyester Matting Min App. Temp. = 5 27 Tools required.

28 Mark out splash zone. Splash zone should extend 100mm outside shower area and upward to shoulder height. 29 Brush wall to remove loose particles. 30 Wall surfaces should be smooth. Flush fill all recesses with filler.

31 Apply masking tape over strip and ledge surfaces Mask pipes and fitting protrusions. 33 Prime walls stroking brush in various directions over all surfaces. Prepare the polyester reinforcing tape while the primer is drying (30 mins).

Notch the polyester tape to form a leg that can extend around corners and maintain a seal between meeting strip up-stands In a 3 sided installation the middle length may have 2 legs, or each side length just 1 leg.

Laying the polyester tape against a wall for support, fold it into two halves pressing the fold firmly to form a 43 permanent crease line that will ease the application process Substrate transition joints should also be reinforced with polyester tape. Reinforce all pipes and fitting protrusions.

Paint WP1 onto the wall and strip up-stand for polyester base tapes. 47 Bed the first polyester base tape (keeping leg folded) onto the WP1 coating Paint the leg with WP1. Unfold and bed the leg onto the adjacent wall. Bed second base tape onto the WP1 coating.

52 Paint a WP1 undercoat onto the corner walls for the polyester corner tape Starting just above the strip up-stand and working in an upward direction, bed the polyester corner tape onto WP1 coating maintaining the fold, and keeping the crease line tight against the wall corner. Use the brush to open fold and bed it onto the adjacent WP1 coated wall.

56 Apply a second coat of WP1 over the polyester tape brushing it firmly to ensure the polyester tape is fully embedded between the first and second WP1 waterproof coatings

59 All pipes, fitting protrusions, and transition joints should be reinforced with polyester tape or matting in a similar manner. Once complete, the walls are ready for waterproofing with BAL WP

Apply a first coat of WP1 over all surfaces stroking the brush in vertical direction. After the first coat has dried, apply a second coat of WP1 stroking the 68 brush in an opposite 67 horizontal direction. 66 Remove masking tape and clean the ledge.

69 The waterproofing is now complete. After the second WP1 coat has dried tiling may commence using: 1. BAL supercover rapid flex 2. BAL micromax wall & floor grout Remember, these are just general guidelines reflecting typical site conditions.
