The technology was assessed against the voluntary environmental labeling standard for Recycled Rubber Products: AELA-Recycled Rubber Details: Page 2

3 PROJECT BACKGROUND Waste Services NSW approved the SMEC design and assigned the construction to Ecoflex Civil Constructions Pty Ltd, with particular regards to the unique properties of Ecoflex systems, namely: Cost E-Rosion Control is estimated to have reduced cost by 15%. Construction time is estimated to be half of the time to construct using other rock mattresses. Durability Ecoflex systems are guaranteed for 40 years reflecting the hard wearing nature of Ecoflex materials. Aesthetic The finished project is considered highly appropriate to the natural vegetation surrounding the project. Ecoflex Units in Scour Protection configuration facilitate contoured design yielding an attractive appearance. The design and material facilitates natural revegetation and continued scour protection. Maintenance The E-Rosion Control system allows traffic by motorised vehicles for ease of maintenance. Page 3

4 PROJECT SPECIFICATION & DESIGN Project Name: Eastern Creek Waste Management Centre Client:: Waste Services NSW Ecoflex System: E-Rosion Contractor: Ecoflex Constructions Pty Ltd Project Purpose: Scour protection to Chute Channels Consulting Engineer: SMEC Australia Pty Ltd The project involved erosion protection for high scour areas of a portion of completed landfill embankment that was to be revegitated. To reduce erosion of the embankment vegetated swales direct runoff to the E-Rosion protected chute channels running down the embankment. Two channels were constructed one approx 30 metres long fed from one swale the other was over 80 metres long with feed from 4 swales inlets at various points along its length, this channel had Ecoflex Baffle Units installed in the lower section of the channel where the highest volumes and velocities were encountered. The completed project used approx 538 square meters of scour protection using Ecoflex E-Rosion. Key considerations included: Cost Durability Maintenance Natural Aesthetic Speed of Construction The E-Rosion Control System use Ecoflex Units as a containment device filled with blast furnace slag. The Units are laid in a cellular formation then encapsulated in a wire mesh. The mass and structural strength of the system delivers high performance erosion control. Page 4
