1 1.01 DESCRIPTION SECTION GENERAL ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS PART 1- GENERAL A. This Section includes the general provisions applicable to electrical work and testing of the completed electrical systems. Where conflicts exist the requirements of other sections take precedence over the requirements of this section. B. Process equipment, pumps, electrically operated valves; plumbing, HVAC equipment, etc. are specified in other Sections and are not a part of Division 16. The electrical connections to these devices and the requirements for motors, starters, motor control centers, panelboards and other work are specified in the appropriate sections of Division 16. C. Division 16 covers, is be construed as a complete description of all the construction required. D. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, appliances and tools and perform all work necessary for the completion of all electrical work as shown on the contract drawings, described in the specifications, as required to properly and completely operation all electrical systems, in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and Long Island Power Authority requirements. E. Electrical Contractor shall provide all conduit, wiring, fittings, terminations, and all devices necessary to provide power and control for the sewage pumping station complete. The electrical contractor shall provide all terminations at and between devices, controls and equipment 1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. All electrical work shall be performed by licensed electricians experienced in the type of work included in this project. The electricians shall be familiar with all electrical standards, codes, ordinances and laws

2 B. The electrical contractor shall provide an on site supervisor with a minimum of three (3) years experience in pump station power and control requirements. C. All work shall comply with: 1. Requirements of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). 2. National Electrical Code (NEC). 3. Federal, state and local ordinances, codes, regulations. 4. Requirements of Underwriters Laboratories, (UL) for all equipment provided for which UL standards have been established. D. Obtain and pay for all permits and inspections required. Electrical inspections shall be made and approved by the Board of Fire Underwriters or other state and/or local authority having jurisdiction 1.03 SUBMITTALS A. The Contractor shall submit shop drawings in accordance with Section B. Copies of all required permits. C. Catalog cuts and shop drawings of all materials and equipment. D. Installation instructions and operation and maintenance manuals for all equipment. E. Three (3) copies of electrical inspection certificates. F. As-built wiring diagrams, ladder and single line drawings and circuit directories

3 1.04 DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver equipment in crates or cartons and do not uncrate until ready for installation. B. Store all materials and equipment in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. C. Temporarily close all pipe openings to prevent obstruction JOB CONDITIONS A. Make arrangements with the Long Island Power Authority to provide temporary and permanent electrical service to the pumping station. B. The construction drawings indicate the general scope of the electrical work. If any changes are required to comply with codes or Long Island Power Authority requirements, the contractor shall, notify engineer to obtain approval prior to installing any unspecified materials or equipment SCHEDULING/SEOUENCING A. Before installing electrical work, the contractor shall review the project with the Long Island Power Authority and verify compliance with all applicable codes arid regulations. B. The Contractor shall notify the engineer at least 48 hours in advance of all starting of work, suspension of work and/or testing GENERAL PART 2- PRODUCTS A B Unless otherwise approved the contractor shall supply only the equipment specified, from one source and manufacturer. All material and equipment shall be new and of the best quality and shall conform to UL standards and carry the UL label

4 2.02 NAMEPLATES A. Provide nameplates for all items of equipment. B. Nameplates shall be black laminated plastic or bakelite, approximately ¾ x 2-1/2 x 1/16 with edges beveled. Lettering shall be engraved, white, with a height of ¼ or larger. C. Provide two holes in nameplates and secure to equipment with stainless steel screws SUPPORTS A. Provide all structural supports required for proper attachment of all equipment. Wall mounted equipment may be directly secured to walls with approved anchors. B. Maintain at least ¼ space between equipment and wall. Steel channels manufactured by Kindorf shall be used were necessary C. Equipment supported from ceilings shall be installed by D. In outdoor areas or where indicated or required, conduit mounting hardware shall be 316 stainless steel MATERIAL AND CONSTRUCTION A. Unless otherwise specified, all enclosures shall be: 1. Indoor, above ground, dry areas NEMA stainless steel. 2. Outdoors and other specified area and below grade areas NEMA 4X 316 stainless steel CONDUITS, BOXES, WIRES AND CABLES B. Conduit and boxes shall comply with Section C. Wires and cables shall comply with Section

5 2.06 LOCKS A. Unless otherwise specified all disconnect switch located outdoors or out off site of the device or devices controlled, shall be provide with lockable disconnects and locks. B. Locks shall be rust proofed. All locks shall be of the type that will not permit the entrance of water and subsequent freezing. All locks shall be keyed a-like with a minimum of four keys TOOLS/SPARE PARTS A. Provide all tools that are necessary for the proper operation and maintenance of the electrical system. B. Furnish two (2) sets of fuses or circuit breakers for each fuse or circuit breaker. C. Furnish two (2) spare lamp bulbs for each lamp INSPECTION PART 3- EXECUTION A. Carefully inspect the installed work of other trades and verify that such work is sufficiently complete to commence any electrical work PREPARATION A. The power requirements and sizes of equipment are subject to change and will be based on the approved product or substitution actually provided. The contractor is required to provide as necessary different sized wires, cables conduits, boxes, starters, overload protection fuses and other electrical equipment and controls. Equipment shall not be ordered until shop drawings and other submissions have been made and approved by the engineer and any other regulatory authority

6 3.03 PENETRATIONS A. Where required, make penetrations prior to the application of roofing and waterproofing materials and to provide all sleeves, pitch pockets and other approved. B. Seal all duct work and penetrations which enter or leave a room or structure which may contain a corrosive or potentially lethal atmosphere TESTING A. For all 3 phase equipment, check for proper phase sequence before energizing such equipment. B. Upon completion of the work of this Section, conduct all tests required to secure approval of the installation from all the owner, the engineer or regulatory agonies. C. All systems shall test free from short circuits and ground and ground of not less than that required by NEC specifications. D. Conduct a ground test on each and every circuit. The test results shall not be less than those required by the NEC. E. Test all electrical devices for proper control of motors and equipment. F. Lamp all fixtures with lamps of designated rating, color, etc. G. Check amperage in all circuits, and compare to nameplate data ADJUSTMENTS AND FINAL CLEANING A. Clean all electrical work; remove all unnecessary labels, soil, markings and foreign material. B. Do not remove labels required by the specifications, laws, regulations, codes and labels warning of hazards, denoting special operating and maintenance procedures or labels with other important or meaningful messages, directions or warnings

7 3.06 PROTECTION A. Protect the electrical system, during and after installation. B. If damaged, immediately make all necessary repairs and replacements. END OF SECTION
