1 Ref:NSDC/QA&Std/1.0/ CON/ Q 0302 Assistant Shuttering Carpenter CURRICULUM/SYLLABUS This program is aimed at training candidates for the job of a Assistant Shuttering Carpenter, in the Construction Sector/Industry and aims at building the following key competencies amongst the learner 1. Introduction to the Job Role:- Describes the key rolls, responsibilities, activities to be performed by the person undergoing the training. 2. Health, Safety & Environment:- States about safety norms, practices to be followed and precautions to be taken to perform the job by a trainee. 3. Material Handling & Storing:- Describes general safe and quality measures to be taken while dealing with formwork materials or other materials relevnat to the job. 4. Making Shutter for Formwork:- Provides general idea about making shutters of suitable material by selecting & using proper carpentry tools according to the sketches/diagrams provided by the trainer. 5. Erection and dismantling of different type of Scaffolding:- This unit describes about the identification, shifting and stacking of scaffolding materials to erect & dismantle various type of system & conventional Scaffoldings and practice the same in a close supervision of trainer. 6. Assemble & Dismantle of Conventional/ System Formwork:- States about the methods of arranging, shifting, stacking the right formwork material safely, use them in instructed location as per given drawing/ diagram and dismantle the whole system safely under a close supervision. This course encompasses 6 out of 6 National Occupational Standards (NOS) of Assistant Shuttering CarpenterQualification Pack issued by Construction Skill Development Skill. S. (L) 8hrs Basic knowledge about what is productivity in construction sectors. Brief introduction about different types of common system of formworks (Cup lock, Aluminum, Doka, Jump Formwork, composite formwork, Maivan etc.) used in the section. Basic Knowledge about different components of system formwork (i.e ledger, vertical, spigot Page 1

2 pin, Base jack, drop heads, primary beam, secondary beam, formwork sheets, floor props) and application of the same. Quality aspects (Performing works in the tollerance limit, good finishing) related to formwork carpentry and its implication on the job. Basics of Engineering drawing which will enable trainee to interpret, develop, demonstrate a Hand made sketch. Basic communication and English skill relevant to construction site including common terms, abbreviations, reading of notice boards, signs & signals. Knowledge of standard procedures of basic Health Safety & Environmental norms relevant to form work carpentery Introduction about Working safely to the environment and following practices of safe disposal of wastes, handling and storing of oils safely (Diesel, Shuttering oil). Knowledge of right selection and use of necessary PPE s (Helmet, Harness, Safety Shoes, Ear plugs, Goggles, Face Musk, 2 Health, Safety & Environment (L/D/P) 20hrs reflective jackets) as per requirement. Questionnaires solving session on safety awareness and use of PPEs. Safe working procedures to work at height CON/ N 0013 specially while against wind speed, working at confined space, working at night. Introduction and practice of firefighting (Use of fire extinguisher, evacuation) by mock drill, fire drill etc. Basic introduction including practice of safe working procedures to be adopted (like proper barricading, dos and don'ts at construction sites, Right selection and use of ladder, Walkway etc.) for general safety at site. 3 Introduction to safety precautions to be taken (related to operation of hand & power tools, ropes, slings, D-shackles.) while working with any lifting machine. Basic knowledge of fire drill, electrical safety, First-aid, contains of a first-aid box. Basic knowledge of materials to be used in formwork (Plywood, timber, wooden Planks, Supporting jacks, Props etc.) Quality practices to be adopted related to 3 Material Handling & Storing (L/P) 24hrs storing, stacking of materials used in job as per guideline of QA/QC dept. Understanding safe method of lifting, handling, placing formwork/ scaffolding materials, oils, lifting materials (Rope, sling, D- CON/N0015 shackle, Pulley, Hooks). Technique of optimum use of material causing minimization of wastage and greater productivity. Knowledge of skill required to select and use basic hand tools (Claw-hammer, chisel, nails, saw, jack-planes etc) used in formwork carpentry. Ability to select appropriate tools like Hand saw, Circular saw, chisel, Drill bit etc. used for different types and shapes of cuttings. 4 Making Shutter for Formwork (L/D/P) 48hrs Basic knowledge of various common power tools (power saw, hand drill machine) required for the activities and its use under CON/ N 0042 close supervision. Knowledge of using different measuring tools like measuring tapes, spirit levels etc. Practicing cutting shuttering materials (Plywood, Timbers) into given shapes, sizes using both power & hand tools. 4 Skill of smoothening shuttering materials (Plywood, Timbers) using both power & hand tools through practice Basic skill to form different types of joints, edges, corners as per drawing/diagram provided using hand and power tools. Knowledge of calculating area,volume in different system of measurement MKS/FPS and solving questionnaires Conversion of unit. 5 Erection and dismantling of different type of Scaffolding 32hrs Knowledge and practice preparation of scaffolding base and its standard alternatives before erecting a scaffolding system. Knowledge about drawing relevant to scaffolding and its right interpretation. Skills to indentify, shift and place right scaffolding materials to a instructed location in right quantity (Preferably up to Mtr height) according to the drawing. Practice of identifying, selecting & using scaffolding materials (Pipes, frames, platforms, props, timber, etc.) while erecting a scaffolding of a said height. Identification & application of correct checking tools like plumb bob, tube level etc. Knowledge and practice of proper housekeeping as per safety norms.
