2 Brought to you by: Side Deployed Flex-Wall The Flex-Wall is a high strength, tension fabric wall that can be deployed rapidly for flood protec on around buildings, doorways, power sta ons, and other cri cal infrastructure. It can be scaled to withstand any water height, and can be shaped to fit around any structure including corners of any angle. It is stored in a closed container at the point of use so that all materials and components are ready and available when needed. The Flex-Wall is simple to operate and can be easily deployed or stowed by a single person within minutes, even in high winds. The Flex-Wall can surround en re spaces (buildings), or span openings and seal against exis ng walls (doors, driveways, etc.). 12 Tall x 16 Wide Flex-Wall tested at 10 of water Features & Benefits Point-of-use storage - No remote retrieval, Components won t be lost over me, Site stays open the last minute and reopens faster Compact stowage - Can store in small spaces and can be any shape Simple opera n Rapid deployment, Anyone can operate it with very li le training Scalable design - Can be sized to fit any water challenge height Robust materials & construc on - Reliable protec on from water, waves & debris Simple design with few moving parts - Low maintenance cost & highly reliable Opera on The Side Deployed Flex-Wall is deployed by opening the Storage Container and pulling it across an opening and bol ng it to a receiver. Once a ached, the integral sealing skirt is lowered and held in place by bolts to ground anchors or by weights that are integrated into the skirt at the factory. For long spans a center post can be installed. For tall walls where higher flood levels are a concern, a cable would be included that is secured at the Storage Container and then a ached at the receiver during deployment. The Flex-Wall is then pulled across the opening like a shower curtain. (w) (p) (e) flexwall@smartvent.com

3 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The ILC Dover Side Deployed Flex- Wall is an economical and reliable system for dry flood protection. Its compact nature facilitates its ability to be stored at the point of use so rapid deployment and retraction are possible. It is simple to operate and can be deployed in a few minutes by one or two people. The system is scalable for water loading up to 12 feet, and associated floating debris impact loads. The Side Deployed Flex- Wall is deployed by extending the flexible wall from its container, pulling it across the opening to be protected, bolting it to a pre- installed receiver, and positioning the ground interface skirt. The fabric wall is easily removable for cleaning or maintenance as necessary. Robust Materials The Side Deployed Flex- Wall is manufactured from high- quality industry standard materials. All metal components are made from A36 steel which are painted or powder coated to meet ASTM B117 Salt Spray Exposure. Manufacture with stainless steel is optional. The flexible wall s load carrying layer is manufactured from high strength Kevlar and Polyester textile webbings, and the water retention layer is a PVC coated Nylon. All textile and membrane materials are highly durable and have been proven in long- term use in other industries including building coverings, trucking, and oil & gas production. 4 Deployed and Stowed sections of a typical Side Deployed Flex-Wall CONFIGURATIONS The Side Deployed Flex-Wall can be configured to protect many types of building openings or perimeters. This includes single / double personnel doors, windows, vehicle entrances, glass storefronts, building perimeters, etc. System components can be externally mounted to buildings, internally mounted (hallways or entrances), or embedded within the structure to hide them for minimal architectural and aesthetic impact. All colors and finishes can be tailored to meet client needs. 1. GENERAL CONDITIONS 1.1. SCOPE. This section covers the Side Deployed Flex-Wall GENERAL. The equipment provided under this section shall be fabricated, assembled, erected, and placed in proper operating condition in full conformity with the drawings, specifications, engineering data, instructions and recommendations of the equipment manufacturer unless exceptions are noted by the engineer of record. The Side Deployed Flex-Wall shall be supplied with all the necessary parts and accessories indicated on the drawings, specified or otherwise required for a complete, properly operating installation, and shall be the latest product of a manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of 2

5 flexible flood barriers. The flood barrier supplied under this section shall be Side Deployed Flex-Wall as manufactured by ILC Dover LP QUALITY ASSURANCE All work shall, as far as practical, be built-up, assembled, and finished in the shop and shall conform to the actual measurements taken by the Contractor at the Work Site The fully assembled Side Deployed Flex-Wall shall be shop inspected before shipping The manufacturer shall be ISO 9001: 2000 certified The manufacturer shall have a quality program in effect at their facility Installer qualifications: An employer of workers trained and approved by the manufacturer Manufacturer qualifications: Manufacturer shall present evidence attesting to at least ten (10) years of successful experience in the design and manufacturing of tensioned fabric structures The manufacturer will properly isolate all dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic action The manufacturer will provide access to the Designer to shop facilities for inspection of materials, testing, and workmanship SUBMITTALS. 6 G. SEI/ASCE Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. H. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, EP Flood Proofing Regulations, 15 December PERFORMANCE 2.1. LEAKAGE. The Side Deployed Flex-Wall shall be substantially watertight under the design head conditions. Leakage shall not exceed 0.5 U.S. gallon per minute per foot (1.9 l/min per meter) of periphery for the rated head. This value can be substantially reduced with special provisions DESIGN HEAD. For the purpose of these specifications, the Side Deployed Flex-Wall shall be defined as meeting the structural and leakage requirements at maximum water level (height of the Side Deployed Flex-Wall ). 3. PRODUCT 3.1 Acceptable Manufacturers. The Side Deployed Flex-Wall is manufactured by ILC Dover LP, Frederica, DE. 3.2 Structural Steel. Structural steel for the frame assembly shall conform to ASTM A572 or ASTM A Components. All material for fabric, stiffeners, hardware, gaskets, opening and closure mechanisms, and embedded frame pieces shall be selected and supplied by the manufacturer based on the submitted design calculations to meet the design loads and performance criteria. In addition to these requirements, the barriers shall have a 75-year service life. All components that will need to be replaced within this life span shall be identified and a replacement procedure submitted for review and approval. 3.4 Design. The Side Deployed Flex-Wall shall be designed with a minimum 2:1 factor of safety based on material yield. 4. EXECUTION 4.1. INSTALLATION.
