6 Aluminium & mild steel pipe boxing Aluminium Contour aluminium pipe boxing is designed predominantly for exterior environments, where a robust, weatherproof solution is required. Manufactured from 2mm or 3mm aluminium, the pipe casings are lightweight, easy to install and supplied with a long lasting powder coated finish, in virtually any RAL or BS colour. Designed and fabricated using the latest technology, our aluminium pipe boxing excels in hostile environments and is impervious to insect / rat attacks. Typical applications include covering pipes in district heating schemes, protecting soil and waste pipes or boxing in gas pipes. Vented profiles are available for gas installation. Mild steel As an alternative to aluminium, mild steel pipe boxing is recommended for internal installation in environments likely to experience a higher incidence of physical damage, for example, mental health facilities, SEN schools, detention centres or secure custodial facilities. As with our aluminium offer, mild steel pipe boxing can be finished in virtually any RAL or BS colour. Our metal pipe boxing is covered by a 25 year product warranty. A guarantee of up to 25 years is available on the polyester powder coating finishes applied to our metal boxing. Terms and conditions apply. 6

19 Anti-ligature pipe boxing To ensure extra safety for potentially vulnerable service users in mental health units, detention centres and secure custodial facilities, Contour can design and manufacture pipe boxing with anti-ligature ventilation grilles, where required. Our latest grille pattern meets the needs of The Home Office Police Buildings Design Guide (Custody, July 2009, section PD ), which details that grilles unless otherwise specified, should be perforated with 2mm diameter holes at 4mm centres, in a triangular pitch formation. For added piece of mind, Our grille pattern has been tested to and exceeds IP3x standards (BS EN 60529) by a UKAS accredited laboratory. The test certifies that the grille will protect against the ingress of solid objects greater than 2.5mm in diameter. The anti-ligature grilles on Contour pipe boxing are punched directly into the aluminium or steel, rather than as a separate grille sheet welded inside the casing, unlike many other manufacturers. This reduces potential weak spots and ensures casing retains strength and rigidity. IP3x Test certified vent grilles 19

20 BioCote anti-microbial protection BioCote is a coating that is proven to significantly reduce the presence of harmful bacteria and pathogens on treated surfaces, by up to 99.5%. As a patented optional additive to our powder coating, BioCote provides an effective, safe and long lasting solution to combating a wide range of bacteria, including MRSA and E.coli. BioCote is ideal for application in the paint finish on both aluminium and preformed plywood pipe boxing, which will be used in healthcare, food processing & preparation and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments indeed anywhere where the maintenance of rigorous hygiene standards is critical. Contour are exclusive partners with BioCote in the UK when it comes to the application of the additive technology on our safe surface temperature heating products, architectural fabrications and column casings. 21 Case study: Woolwich estates regeneration PROJECT: MAIN CONTRACTOR: SUMMARY: Woolwich Estates Regeneration, Royal Borough of Greenwich Keepmoat Design and manufacture of PPC aluminium and mild steel pipe boxing systems internally and externally The regeneration of three estates in Woolwich, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, heralded an important phase in redevelopment of the local area. Under the project the estates would be upgraded to 1,500 mixed-tenure homes including family houses, mews houses and courtyard apartments. The design and manufacture by Contour Casings of over 7 km of PPC aluminium and mild steel pipe boxing for installation in internal and external locations, also included a range of integrated access panels to allow system maintenance and testing.
