So as well as being robust and vandal-proof, and easy to install, maintain and clean, they now features a life of 30,000 hours (LG70) - resulting in fewer light guide changes compared to 2D lamps (8,000 to 12,000 hours). Fewer luminaires are therefore needed to light any given area and this means considerable cost savings in terms of purchase, installation and maintenance. The new EdgeLED light guides create such a uniform light output there are none of the intense and unsightly spots of light so often seen with other less sophisticated backlit LED solutions - indeed, opal diffusers are no longer required and clear diffusers are standard throughout making this a highly attractive, aesthetic range where no light is wasted. 4 EdgeLEDI Our clear advantage EdgeLED our clear advantage Generally, LED products are disliked due to the intensity of light created by the very LED source that makes them so efficient and most attempts at reducing this intensity have compromised their optical efficiency and light distribution by using opal diffusers - so increasing energy consumption. The true advantages of LED are lost. However, with EdgeLED technology the LEDs are arranged around the edge of a light guide, a highly engineered optical device containing thousands of micro lenses. It is these that precisely control the light from the guide and channel it to exactly where it is needed. Although new to the lighting market, the technology itself is well proven and reliable and can already be found in TVs, tablets, and mobile phones. The result is a pleasing and uniform light output and optimised distribution that in no way compromises the inherent efficiency of LED. And not only is the light output homogeneous, it also enables fewer luminaires to light a given area, and allows new, inherently attractive, designs such as the Glacier range to be developed.

7 Glacier Alleycat Round & Square A die-cast aluminium base, a diffuser made from high grade UV stabilised polycarbonate, and a long-life formed-in-place-foam-gasket, make this IP 65 rated bulkhead the most robust and vandal proof in our range. Now featuring a one-component hinged gear tray with the new EdgeLED light guide and driver, it produces a pleasant and perfectly uniform light using only a clear diffuser - no opal diffuser is necessary to conceal harsh LED light spots. This makes it the ideal luminaire for wall and ceiling applications in rail stations and bus depots and highly suitable for housing associations and corridor use. The poured gasket seal provides an IP65 rating and protects against abuse, while a screwed-down polycarbonate diffuser and a rigidly constructed polycarbonate base and a strong, symmetrical shape make these luminaires exceptionally robust. The slim, visually appealing profile of the Columbus that has always been popular is now enhanced by the uniform light achieved through EdgeLED technology - there s no requirement for an opal diffuser as the light guide itself provides a pleasant, even light without bright spots.
