4 Prior to laying A1. Environmental conditions for PhoneStar - FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS! Contruction site conditions PhoneStar boards may only be put into weather-tight and heated rooms under constant climatic conditions. The minimum temperature is +15 C and air humidity must be 0-60%. The environmental conditions must be documented before installation starts. Acclimatization / Storage Prior to installation, PhoneStar boards must acclimatise in the installation room for a minimum of 24 hours to avoid minimal shrinkage after installation that could result in open joints or warping effects. Store PhoneStar boards laid flat. Tip: Divide boards into multiple smaller piles of boards; this promotes and accelerates acclimatization compared to boards piled in one stack. Sun protection The PhoneStar boards must be protected from the sun when in storage or while being laid, in order to avoid minimal shrinkage that could result in open joints and warping effects. Documentation requirement & disclaimer Environmental conditions must be checked prior to installing PhoneStar boards. The measurement results must be documented and sent to Wolf Bavaria per fax or prior to installation. Wolf Bavaria GmbH does not assume any liability in the event of non-observance of environmental conditions or the documentation requirements. 9 PhoneStar installation & assembly B2. General PhoneStar ceiling installation Phonestar plates are usually mounted onto a substructure below the ceiling and are covered with a finishing board, e.g. Plasterboard. In individual cases it s possible to mount PhoneStar directly onto the wooden ceiling (e.g. on a existing OSB ceiling). Substructure Timber battens or metal resilient channels are suitable for the creation of substructures. The Substructure is spaced so that the edges of the PhoneStar boards will align with the substrucutre, so fit them at either 0 cm centres for the 120 x 80 cm boards or at 1,25 cm centres for the 125 x 62,5 cm boards. Depending on the substructure, the assembly instructions of the respective manufacturers must be observed. Note: Correct installation of resilient bars The fixing screws should not be over-tightened. The resilient channel is mounted so that there is a 1 mm space approx. between it and the strucutre above. 1 mm gap 1 mm gap correct wrong Cavity insulation Thermal insulation should be placed in the cavity of existing ceilings or alternatively in the space between the substructure. This reduces reverberation within the cavity. Example 1 Fill cavity in an exposed or new ceiling cavity. Example 2 Fill cavity between the substructure framing below a sealed existing ceiling or a solid ceiling. Insulation materials: Mineral wool, rockwool, hemp, flexible wood fibre or cellulose insulation. Warning: EPS, PU or similar materials are not suitable! General information: PhoneStar sound insulation boards generally require a finished surface (e.g. plasterboard). It is not possible to plaster, paint, wallpaper etc., directly onto PhoneStar. 10 PhoneStar installation & assembly Alignment of boards Phonestar boards can be installed in the direction of the substructure or can be fixed perpendicular to the substructure, depending on the board size. PhoneStar board dimensions: Substructure centres: 125 x 62,5 cm 1,25 cm Parallel to substructure Perpendicular to substructure PhoneStar board dimensions: Substrucutre centres: 120 x 80 cm 0 cm X No installation parallel to substructure Perpendicular to substructure The side of the PhoneStar board with the label must face into the room: Visible face Side with label Board surface with clearly visible corrugation Ceiling face Side without label Smoother board surface without corrugation 10 Installation Instructions Ceiling

11 PhoneStar installation & assembly Installating on ceiling Abut the PhoneStar boards tightly together and flush with the room perimeter. Make sure when fitting the first row of PhoneStar boards that it is very level and straight so as not to cause gaps in the subsequent rows. Avoid cross joints between the rows. PhoneStar is installed on to the substrucuture without any gaps between the boards. To avoid cross joints, begin the 2nd row with the off-cut piece from the end of the 1st row. The joints must be staggered by a minimum of 10 cm. 2nd Row rd Row If any gaps occur between the boards and the wall, seal them with Wolf Joint Filler. 12 PhoneStar installation & assembly Screws PhoneStar boards are screwed into the substructure with drywall screws. There are 15 screws per PhoneStar board, e.g.,9 x 5* mm with x 5 screws. Metal resilient channels require screws with the fine threads whereas timber substructures require coarse thread screws. Distribution of screws Per PhoneStar board 15 screws Plasterboard screw Metal substructure fine pitch threads e.g. resilient channels Wooden substructure coarse thread e.g. timber battens Plasterboard To complete the system you must use a finishing board below PhoneStar e.g. plasterboard. The plasterboard must be screwed into the PhoneStar board if you have a ceiling installation.* Ceiling PhoneStar Plasterboard *The length of the screws depends on the substructure.. 12 Installation Instructions Ceiling

13 Installing on Ceiling C1. Installing on ceiling The installation of PhoneStar boards onto ceilings is outlined by either using timber battens (chapter C1.1) or metal resilient channels (chapter C1.2) on an exposed timber joist ceiling. Installing onto a solid ceiling follows the same way. Follow the general mounting notes in chapter B2 for mounting PhoneStar. Step 1: Insulating the cavity To avoid reerberation within the cavity you should fill this space with flexible insulation. Exposed ceiing Insulation fitted in cavity If your timber joist ceiling is not exposed or if you have a solid ceiling, you can fit flexible insulation in the spaces between the substructures instead. Substructure insulation Insulation materials: Mineralwool, rockwool, hemp, flexible wood fibre or cellulose insulation. Warning: EPS, PU, or similar materials are not suitable! 14 Installing on Ceiling C1.1 PhoneStar - Installing on Ceiling Step 2: Fixing timber battens The installation of the timber battens occurs in 2 layers. The timber edge profile is fitted first at the room perimeter and the timber battens are then secured to the edge profile. Layer 1 Edge profile: The edge profile is installed at the perimeter edge of the ceiling, flush with the walls. Timber battens can be used for this. Randprofil Layer 2 Substructures: The substrucutre is spaced so that the edges of the PhoneStar boards will align with the substructure, so fit them at either 0 or 1,25 cm centres. You must prepare and align the substructure so that the PhoneStar boards can be installed onto an even and level surface. Step : Fixing PhoneStar Start mounting PhoneStar in the corner of the room. The PhoneStar boards should go flush against the perimeter wall without leaving any gaps. Use 15 screws per PhoneStar board. Follow the general mounting notes in chapter B2 for mounting PhoneStar. 14 Installation Instructions Ceiling

15 Installing on Ceiling Step 4: Installing Plasterboards PhoneStar boards are covered with e.g. plasterboard. There must be a perimeter gap of approx. 4 mm left at all perimter edges to reduce flanking noise. This gap is then filled with Wolf Joint Filler. 1 2 Wolf Joint Filler 1 - PhoneStar 2 - Plasterboard - 4 mm Perimeter Gap When mounting on ceiling. It s important that the plasterboard is screwed into the PhoneStar boards and the substructure. Ceiling Plasterboard screwed every 25 cm into the substructure.
