4 Site Requirements & Construction Details SITE Level Pad Out of level, wet, rocky or unstable bases are unsuitable. Construction must be on natural ground - no fill. Where required, North Coast Tanks can pour footings down to natural ground level at additional cost. Excavations Dirt piles 2m clear of edge steps Level base Benched or battered In-ground tanks; maximum excavation depth is 2.3m. Excavations require a minimum working space of 700mm on each and every side. Minimum excavation dimensions are listed with standard tank sizes on page 2. North Coast Tanks can arrange excavation through a licenced operator approximately 2 days before the due job date. For the tank base, a 50mm deep layer of 10mm or 20mm drainage gravel needs to be spread level prior to construction. Clear access side An ideal tank site, ready for gravel base. ACCESS Concrete pump and trucks need to be within approximately 20m of the tank site. Please enquire if the job will require pumping over further distances. Excavation needs to be left clear on one side for both work vehicles and staff to access with forms, tools and equipment. Tank construction is usually best done once the house slab is down and before other construction work on the site is commenced, depending on the size of the block and type of tank. CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE Average lead time is around 2 to 4 weeks, however we regularly reserve vacant days for builders. Construction time is generally two days. The tank can be filled to a maximum one-third capacity immediately, and then filled to full capacity after a further 12 days. 3 North Coast Tanks 2014
