8 Table 2: Performance Aspects of performance Drainage layout and calculation Opinion of Agrément South Africa Satisfactory, subject to the provisions listed below. SANS /EN : Gravity drainage systems inside buildings Roof drainage, layout and calculation Explanatory notes With respect to layout and calculation, the Geberit Pluvia Syphonic Roof Drainage System will meet the requirements of SANS / EN when: designed in accordance with Geberit s guidelines and utilising Geberit s Pluvia software complying with the provisions listed in this certificate. Hydraulic performance - flow capacity Satisfactory Systems are designed to operate using syphonic principles. Pipes downstream of outlets are designed to be primed when rainfall intensities are equal to or exceed design rainfall intensities. At lesser rainfall intensities systems will operate as conventional gravity systems. Provision is made when designing the system for rainfall intensities greater than design assumptions by allowing for emergency outlets or suitably placed overflows. Hydraulic performance - maximum negative pressure Satisfactory, subject to the maximum negative pressures being determined using a rainfall intensity for which all pipes flow full and the appropriate roughness for new pipes are assumed An acceptable allowance has been provided for in the software for pipe roughness which allows for the effects of pipe joints, ageing and the possible deposition of fine sediment in the system Maximum negative pressure at the critical points in pipework will occur when the system is carrying maximum syphonic flow and when pipes are new Agrément Certificate 2011/393 : Geberit Pluvia Syphonic Roof drainage system Page 8 of 25

9 Table 2: Performance (continued) Adequacy of securing Pluvia outlets and pipes Strength of components and durability Satisfactory Satisfactory, subject to adherence to the design criteria for maximum allowable negative pressure of both Geberit as well as the criteria according to Clause 6.3 of BS Agrément certificate 2011/392: Geberit HDPE Above Ground Soil and Waste Drainage System. The recommendations made by Geberit with respect to the fitting of Pluvia outlets and the support of pipe-work must be adhered to Outlets and pipe-work are assessed as being of adequate strength and durability. Pipes above ground are unconstrained with respect to buckling due to external air pressure acting in conjunction with an internal vacuum or negative pressure. In trafficked areas, outlets are to be fitted with appropriately sized load-bearing gratings. Pipes, access pipes, bends, branch fittings, reducers, expansion sockets and flanged bushings meet the requirements of Agrément certificate 2011/392 BS : Guide to Syphonic roof drainage systems. Adequacy and provision of joints Ease of installation Satisfactory Satisfactory Pipe-work joints will remain air and watertight under normal operating conditions. It is recommended that joints be made under controlled conditions in accordance with Geberit s recommendations and by persons trained in making joints, especially butt welds and electro-fusion joints. At and around Geberit Pluvia outlets, joints between contact foils or sheets and polymer or bitumen-based roof membranes, respectively, must be made with care and with due regard to good building practice as per the membrane manufacturer s recommendations Installation of the systems will be achieved easily provided procedures prescribed in Geberit Pluvia Application Technique are strictly adhered to Agrément Certificate 2011/393 : Geberit Pluvia Syphonic Roof drainage system Page 9 of 25

10 Table 2: Performance (continued) Ease of maintenance Satisfactory As for all other roof drainage systems, an effective periodic maintenance routine must be implemented to prevent the accumulation of debris (e.g. leaves) from blocking outlets and gutters. Syphonic action with resultant flow rates within the system will ensure that the interior of pipework is self cleaning. Performance in fire Satisfactory. Where roofs must have a fireresistance rating, a rational design must be undertaken by an approved competent person If necessary, outlets and pipe-work can be readily removed and replaced to accommodate alterations and additions to existing buildings Geberit HDPE outlets, pipes and fittings are combustible and may ignite and burn when exposed to fire Table 3: Quality management system Aspects of performance Quality management system Opinion of Agrément South Africa The certificate holder s quality management system complies with Agrément South Africa s requirements. Properly applied, it will ensure that quality in the manufacture and installation of drainage systems will be maintained consistently. 12 Outlets may also be fitted with thermal insulation to prevent condensation occurring in or under roofs at and below outlets. For trafficked areas, outlets may be fitted with load-bearing (150 or 1500 kg) capacity gratings. On inverted roofs where stone ballast has been used (gravel size 8 to 16 mm), Pluvia gravel rings may be installed around outlets to prevent ingress of stone. SANS/ISO 9001: Quality management systems Requirements Components are manufactured from stainless steel, upvc coated steel or HDPE. The HDPE components are injection moulded while steel components are pressed and/or machined from sheet metal. Quality control is carried out on all components in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001: SANS 8770: Plastics piping systems for soil and waste discharge (low and high temperature) inside buildings Polyethylene (PE) Pipes, adaptors and fittings are manufactured from black PE80 HDPE in accordance with the requirements of SANS 8770: The Geberit range of pipes and available pressure classes are indicated in Tables 1 to 3, respectively, while the Geberit Pluvia outlets and accessories are indicated in Table 4. Design of drainage systems Systems are designed in accordance with the requirements of SANS SANS /EN : Gravity drainage systems inside buildings Roof drainage, layout and calculation L Roofs and SANS /EN The system s design flow capacity relies on syphonic principles and is therefore designed to ensure priming in the pipes downstream of the outlets for rainfall intensities equal to and higher than the design rainfall intensity. At rainfall intensities too low to enable symphonic action, the system will operate as a conventional drainage system. Geberit Pluvia software is an integral part of the system and ensures that the most economic and effective design is achieved. Only persons trained and approved by Geberit Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd are authorised to make use of Geberit s software.
