Public Forests Woodlot Management Plan Property Number Bull Creek Road Highlights of Proposed Treatments - Two softwood stands of old field origin will be selectively harvested using a 50% Uniform Basal Area Removal Treatment. 2 Goals and Management Objectives Property Number on Bull Creek Road To meet the wildlife objectives, it is desirable to create a diverse mixture of plants with a variety of both short and long lived species. The shorter lived species will help create some vertical structural diversity in the mature stands. This will help to enrich the wildlife habitat and provide the necessary cover to aid in the successful establishment of more tolerant, longer lived species, which in turn will provide quality seed for the re-establishment of the forest. For the Bull Creek Road property, ( ), enhancing the forest quality is the primary goal. Treatments recommended are designed to rehabilitate the stands and to salvage some of the mature and over mature timber. The removal of mature and over mature stems will allow for the planting of improved genetic stock and the establishment of natural regeneration from the seed of the remaining residual stems. Another goal of this operation will be to convert the stand from a single species composition to a multiple species stand. This shall be accomplished by opening up the stand to new regeneration or by planting desirable species not currently present on the site. Also, any planted areas on the property will be monitored to assess the health and growth of the seedlings and to determine if followup treatments are required for their continued growth and development. Property Overview - Property is located on the Bull Creek Road in the community of East Baltic. This is a 20.2 hectare ( 50 acre) property that can be on the Prince Edward Island Public Land Atlas page 39. The 1935 photography and the 1900 forest layer shows that approximately 60 % of the property was previously in farmland. To date this property has not had any harvesting or reforestation carried out. A small amount of road repair has been done in the past to keep two access roads passable to separate fields on property which had been leased out for agriculture purposes. This property has been stand typed with 9 separate stands which have differences in species composition, height and density. These stands were assessed during a previous visit (cruise) in July Areas that are being considered for treatment within the management time frame have been visited in Natural environmental features consist of a small stream and wetland that cuts through the northern corner of the property and contains the remnants of a beaver dam. This area is be left as is. A buffer of 20 meters plus has been marked off to prevent encroachment of the silviculture treatment that is planned.

3 Access - Access to the property is off the Bull Creek Road. There are two woods roads which pass through the property allowing access to the three proposed work areas without blocking the main road. On-going road maintenance will include clearing encroaching brush, repair of wet areas which hamper vehicle access, and other maintenance operations necessary to keep these roads in a usable condition. Property Boundaries - This property is bounded on the east by a thin pie shaped sliver of land that is privately owned. To the north and west the property is bounded by properties that under the management of the Provincial Forest Section, while to the south the property is bounded by the Glen Road (route 303).
