2 Regional Natural Parks of France 51 Regional Natural Parks Inhabited rural area nationally recognized for its valuable local heritage and landscape, but also for its fragility

3 What is the purpose of such a park? To protect and promote the natural and human resources, and the cultural heritage by implementing an innovative and environmentally-friendly policy of land-use planning By encouraging economic, social and cultural development

4 What roles does it play? 1. To protect and manage natural resources, landscapes and cultural heritage 2. To participate in land-use planning and land development 3. To foster economic and social development 4. To provide education and information 5. To encourage experimentation

5 How are Regional Natural Parks organized? Actions are defined and implemented by the management team in compliance with the Park Charter Management team of elected representatives French Region(s) Department(s) Towns and villages Local partners Working committees advisory boards Scientific committee Director and a technical permanent team

6 What makes Regional Natural Parks different from other protected areas? Complementary objectives of protection and economic development A voluntary commitment Management and protection measures based on advice and contracts vs regulations
