The Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, and Mountain Metis are also within the municipality s borders. All our communities are important to Greenview s growth and development. Surrounded by the beauty and nature of the Rocky Mountains, GRANDE CACHE is nestled on a mountain plateau and surrounded by panoramic views of 21 mountain peaks and 2 river valleys. Located along Highway 40, the shortest and most scenic route to Alaska from the United States, and bordering the Willmore Wilderness Park, tourism is a significant contributor to the local economy. 5 PROXIMITY TO MAJOR MARKETS Greenview is strategically located in Alberta, with multiple access routes linking business beyond our borders. Although Alberta is physically land-locked, the national highway and railway systems connect it to many of the country s major ports. These ports are vital links in Canada s transportation system and are essential to international trade and commerce. HIGHWAY The area is serviced by the CANAMEX Trade Corridor, a provincial highway network that runs through Greenview and links local businesses to markets in the United States and Mexico. Passenger, cargo and medical flights fly in and out of the Grande Prairie Airport Alberta s fourth largest airport connecting to destinations within Alberta s borders and beyond. Rail connects business and industry in Greenview to ports in British Columbia, in both Prince Rupert and Vancouver. In 2017, the Grande Prairie Airport recorded a 4.3 percent increase in passenger travel over 2016, a number that continues to rise. Small airports and heliports predominately serve industry and medical facilities with light aircraft. RESPONSIVE LOCAL GOVERNMENT The economy of Greenview is thriving. In addition, as part of our commitment to attract business and support the growth of existing businesses, Greenview is facilitating the development of large tracts of land for new industrial parks. ALBERTA S GROWTH RATE Alberta has the highest average provincial economic growth rate in the nation over the past 20 years. Alberta s average annual GDP growth rate between 2005 and 2015 was an estimated 2.7 percent per year, compared with Canada s average growth of 1.7% per year. ALBERTA S HIGH LABOUR PRODUCTIVITY In 2016, Alberta s business sector had the highest labour productivity level in the country. The total value added per hour worked in Alberta exceeded the Canadian average by about 39%.

HUB OF ENERGY ACTIVITY Alberta is the cornerstone of Canada s oil and gas industry and Greenview has incredible potential located in the heart of it all. Energy development is the largest contributor to the province s GDP, capital investments, and exports. Our energy industry provides tremendous potential for companies with the equipment, services and technology to extract and process the region s energy resources. With available industrial land, ready access to water, and a skilled workforce, Greenview is an ideal location for oil and gas activities. In addition, thousands of miles of pipeline already transport refined oil and gas, as well as raw product to larger urban centres in Alberta and the United States. THE MONTNEY-DUVERNAY POTENTIAL Situated in the heart of the Deep Basin, Greenview is poised to become Alberta s centre of energy diversification for the future. The Montney Shale Formation is a major natural gas and liquids hydrocarbon resource, and is one of the most active resource formations being developed in Canada. Canada s National Energy Board places the Montney among the top natural gas basins in the world. Projected to produce over half of Canada s natural gas by 2040, optimism is high, with the Montney remaining top of mind with North American and global investors. The Duvernay field holds the country s largest marketable reserves of light shale oil and condensate. HOME OF THE TRI MUNICIPAL INDUSTRIAL PARTNERSHIP Greenview s Gold Creek region, 45 km south of Grande Prairie, has potential for world class development. Through regional cooperation, Greenview has partnered with the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie to create an area for well-planned, value added industrial facilities. This world-class heavy industrial park is an exciting project that will advance Alberta s economic success and increase the diversity of opportunities within the three regions. The development area will be shovel ready for global investors at a scale that is larger than any other project of its kind. Utilizing the Montney-Duvernay shale gas play, the industrial project will attract value-added processing in the petrochemical industry. The area is estimated to be one of the most prolific natural gas plays within North America.

7 GROWING PROSPERITY IN THE FOREST INDUSTRY Fifty-eight per cent or 38 million hectares of Alberta is forested. Greenview is part of Alberta s Peace Region, home to the province s top ranked employers in the forestry sector and second highest region for production of forest products. The Peace Country is Alberta s leading producer of pulp, paper, and panel board. 9 GREEN INDUSTRIES / GEOTHERMAL Greenview is a partner in a multi-jurisdictional study led by University of Alberta researchers that has uncovered major geothermal potential along Alberta s foothills, with Greenview presenting a hotspot of potential development. Currently Greenview is committed to researching this source of clean energy and harnessing its potential to create opportunities in our region. Through alignment with our municipal partners, six dedicated industrial parks will be accessible in Greenview in 2017, with three of those in towns within our borders. 10 ACCELERATING INNOVATION IN ALBERTA S NORTH Greenview s Economic Development office works with business supports around the region, helping drive the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that is at work in Greenview. GRANDE PRAIRIE REGIONAL INNOVATION NETWORK (GPRIN) works in collaboration with Alberta Innovates and GPRC Research & Innovation (GPRC R&I) to support innovators, entrepreneurs and students as they develop ideas into new marketable products and services. ALBERTA INNOVATES, a provincial corporation, drives Alberta s provincial research and innovation efforts in key areas, building on Alberta s strengths in health, environment, energy, food, forestry/fiber, and emerging technology. GPRC RESEARCH & INNOVATION (GPRC R&I) leads the development of applied research and innovation for Grande Prairie Regional College and northwest Alberta. INVEST IN ALBERTA Alberta is setting the stage for business by taking a balanced, realistic approach to ensure long-term prosperity and success. FORESTRY INNOVATION The government supports ongoing research and development focused on increasing the value of products coming from Alberta s forests. These innovative research efforts identify new ways of using forest fiber that sustains the sector s position as a leader in responsible natural resource management. POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION FACILITIES THAT ALIGN AND COOPERATE WITH INDUSTRY GRANDE PRAIRIE REGIONAL COLLEGE provides high-quality programs and instruction to students in the region. The college offers certificates, diplomas, apprenticeship trades, university transfer studies, and degree completion. GPRC has campuses in Grande Prairie and Fairview, with four additional learning centres, including one in Grande Cache. Credit Programs are offered in the areas of Liberal Arts; Science; Education; Physical Education; Nursing; Human Services; Fine Arts; Business; Technology; Academic Upgrading; Trades and Technical training; Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The College also offers baccalaureate degrees and graduate degrees in collaboration with universities. NORTHERN LAKES COLLEGE is a Comprehensive Community Institution with several campuses, including Valleyview, offering certificate and diploma programs and degree completion opportunities. Students can take classes on-site at one of the campuses, learn by distance delivery, or participate in online classes. ALBERTA POST SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS In addition to our local postsecondary institutions, within a three-hour drive, Greenview residents can access major Canadian universities and polytechnic institutes. APPRENTICESHIP AND INDUSTRY TRAINING Alberta s apprenticeship and industry training system is second to none, training 21 percent of Canada s apprentices. YOUNG AND EDUCATED WORKFORCE ACCESS TO SKILLED LABOUR Accessing skilled labour is key to innovation and productivity. 11 GRANDE PRAIRIE REGIONAL HOSPITAL The Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie provides the region with a range of healthcare services including a 24/7 emergency department. The new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, currently under construction, will provide patients with specialized and complex care. As a regional referral centre, the facility will provide a range of health services to the northwest region. It will also include a state-of-the-art cancer centre with two radiation vaults, as well as an educational facility, in partnership with Grande Prairie Regional College. LOCAL MEDICAL SERVICES All three towns within Greenview s borders have community hospitals/health complexes that provide 24-hour medical services. STARS HEALTH SERVICES Greenview is serviced by STARS Air Ambulance based out of Grande Prairie. Services offered by the STARS Emergency Link Centre are utilized by the oil and gas industry, forestry, mining, and recreation within the region. Those living in rural communities, working in remote areas, and traveling on area highways can be reached via STARS in less than an hour.
