9 THE EFFECT OF APPLICATION OF AGROSTEMIN ON THE YIELD OF BROCCOLI AT HOLETA 1. Background: Agrostemin is a new concept in the area of plant nutrient which is food bioactivator and biostimulator. It is based on a blend of various plant extracts. Successful crop production requires optimum factors for the required growth and yield; plant nutrition being the critical one. Agrostemin has shown a range of effects on seed, on the growing period and yield. Those effects include increased germinability, increased morphological parts, improved quality, better resistance to extreme climatic changes and diseases; and eventually aconsiderable increases of yield. For example, yield of Broccoli was increased from 5 15% Agrostemin is also known to be environmental friendly. 2. Objectives: a) To test the benefits of Agrostemin known by its company; and if positive results are revealed b) To incorporate Agrostemin into our nutrient management system to exploit its yield increase and other attributes 3. Materials and Methods: APPLICATION: a) Quantity On the basis of 30 gm/ha of Agrostemin gold b) Preparation Quantity of 2 5 lts of water (hot 40 50ºC recommended) are enough to be stirred approximately 50 / 100 gm product; mix dispersion (about 10 min) and at the end add sufficient amount of water to cover the trial area

10 c) Time of season/ vegetative phase - during transplanting ( First application ) - Apply before flowering/when head starts forming (Second application) - Recommendation: Mix Agrostemin with seed, before sowing; surface of plot nursery is benchmark d) There will be 3 Causes of Variation (T1, T2 and T3) on total 0.3ha (3x32 beds) - Each Variation with 0.1 ha (32 beds, each bed 22.5m x 1.2m = 32x27m 2 = 864 m 2 = ha) - Variation 1, Agrostemin gold first application (2.6 gm stir well with ~450 ml water first application) and second application 2.6gm in ~450 ml water per treatment. - Variation 2, Agrostemin gold (2.6 gm in ~450 ml water per treatment) + Normal practice. - Variation 3, Normal practice only ("Control" without Agrostemin). Total Agrostemin for this trial = 10.4 gm ( 2 Variations x 2 Treatment) e) Location: Holeta, GH Duration: One crop season 5. Data to be collected: - Starting and completing date of application - Energy of germination (if it was treated in period of sowing ) - Rooting - Vigor (1 3; 1 poor; 2 medium; 3 good) - Fruit size and color (Small, Medium, big, light, dark green) - Ripening period (early/ late) - Yield ( kg/ha)

12 THE EFFECT OF AGROSTEMIN ON THE YIELD OF BROCCOLI AT HOLETA 1. Background: As it was indicated on the proposal of this trial, Agrostemin is a food bio activator and bio stimulator. The trial was started at Holeta in GH15 on Broccoli with the aim of testifying its benefits. The trial started on 02/01/ Materials and Methods : 2.1 Agrostemin was applied twice, at seedling stage and just before flowering stage of the broccoli at the rate of 30 gm/ha basis. 2.2 The three treatments were T1 = Agrostemin + 80% of Normal Practice T2 = Agrostemin + 100% of Normal Practice T3 = Control ( Normal Practice ) T4 = Agrostemin alone 2.3 Each treatment has a plot size of 540m2 and sprayed twice, first with 1.62 and second 1.62 gm of Agrostemin 3. Results : Yield and other information were reported on 06/04/2013. The duration period of harvesting has been from Feb 8 to

13 Yield of Treatment: Descriptio n Treatments Plot size (m2) Yield (kg) Productivity (kg/ha) T1 Ag+80% NP , T2 Ag+100%NP , Variation (%) T3 Control(NP) ,963 Bench mark T4 Ag alone , Ag = Agrostemin NP = Normal Practice

14 4. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: 4.1 As the yield performance shows in the above table, T2 ( Agrostemin + 100% Normal practice ) gave the highest yield, 837 kg/plot (15500 kg/ha), followed by the T3, (control), 646 kg/plot (11963 kg/ha), and by T1 (Agrostemin + 80% Normal practice), 373 kg/plot ( 6907 kg/ha ). T4 ( Agrostemin alone ) gave the lowest yield, 88 kg/plot ( 1,630 kg/ha ) which verifies that this product is used as a supplementary feed. 4.2 In terms of susceptibility/resistance or tolerance to pest/disease, there has not been any difference among all treatments. In addition, it has shown no harmful effect on humans and environment. Therefore, Agrostemin with the normal practice has shown a yield increase of 30% indicating that it is beneficial for yield increment if incorporated with our management system, keeping in mind its price, i.e. cost: benefit analysis.

16 THE EFFECT OF APPLICATION OF AGROSTEMIN ON THE YIELD OF STRAWBERRY AT HOLETA 1. For example, yield of strawberry was increased from 200 1,000 kg/ha. Agrostemin is also known to be environmental friendly.

17 c) Time of season / vegetative phase - Apply first application before blossoming, and - Apply Second application after blossoming - Optional: at beginning of season; after every picking while still have new flowers. d) There will be 3 Causes of Variation (T1, T2 and T3) on total 0.4ha (3x30 beds) - Each Variation with 30 beds, each bed 35.4m x 1.2m (30 x 35.4m x 1.2m = 1,274 m 2 = ha) - Variation 1, Agrostemin gold (3.8gm stir well with ~650 ml for first application, and 3.8 gm in ~650 ml water for second and each other, optional application. - Variation 2, Agrostemin gold (like Treatment 1 + Normal practice) - Variation 3, Normal practice only ("Control" without Agrostemin). 21 21 THE EFFECT OF APPLICATION OF AGROSTEMIN ON THE YIELD OF POTATO AT HOLETA 1. For example, yield of potato was increased from kg/ha Agrostemin is also known to be environmental friendly. 2. Objectives: a) To test the benefits of Agrostemin known by its company; and if positive results are revealed b) To incorporate Agrostemin into our nutrient management system to exploit its yield increase and other attributes 3. 22 22 c) Time of season / vegetative phase - First application, dry dusting or wet seeding / planting material (383 kg) for one treatment - Second application is before flowering, is recommended to use double dose due to nutritional need of the plant. d) There will be 3 Causes of Variation (T1, T2 and T3) on total 0.5 ha (5000 m 2 ) - Each Variation with on 1600 m 2 (0.16 ha) - Variation 1 (T1), Agrostemin gold first (4.8 gm stir well with ~800 ml water for 3.68 Qt of Seed) and Second application 9.6 gm Agrostemin gold in ~1,600 ml water. - Variation 2 (T2), Agrostemin gold (like T1 + Normal practice). - Variation 3 (T3), Normal practice only ("Control" without Agrostemin). Total Agrostemin for this trial = 28.8gm e) Location: Holeta, F Duration: One crop season 5. Data to be collected: - Starting and completing date of application - Energy of germination (if it was treated in period of planting ) - Rooting - Vigor (1 3; 1 poor; 2 medium; 3 good) - Fruit size and color (Small, medium, big, as per desired, brown, yellowish white) - Ripening period (early/ late) - Total weight of over ground plant parts mass - Yield ( kg/ha)

24 THE EFFECT OF AGROSTEMIN ON THE YIELD OF POTATO AT HOLETA 1. Background: As it was Indicated on the proposal of this trial, Agrostemin is a bio activator and bio stimulator. The trial was started on December 07,2012 at Holeta on Field No 26, and completed on May 11,2013, with the aim of testifying benefits from Agrostemin. 2. Materials and Methods 2.1 T1 = Agrostemin ( Ag), on 2000 m2 T2 = Normal Practice (NP) on 2000 m2 T3 = Ommitted from this trial because of extremely low population and poor overall performance 2.2 The two treatments have been fed with the recommended rate. 3. Results of Yield : Description Treatment Plot Size(m2) Yield (kg) Productivity (kg/ha) Variation (%) T1 Ag 2,000 1,600 8, T2 NP 2,000 2,882 14,410 Benchmark 4. Discussion and Conclusion : 4.1 Comparison of Agrostemin with the Normal Practice has become impossible due to the failure of treatment plot with Ag and NP. 4.2 This trial also shows that. Ag alone cannot increase yield, and shows less yield result than NP. 4.3 From the trend of yield result of the broccoli and strawberry trials, a logical assumption could follow that a yield increment of 30%to56% could have been achieved, had the treatment of Ag + NP been completed.
