1 Sustainable Forest Management Invitation For Bids Timber Sale Long Forestry Consultation 94 Curtis St. Jerseyville, IL (618) 639-TREE One property, totaling 120 woodland acres, owned by Henry Taylor and Lorraine Steinberg, has been marked for timber harvest by Mike Long of Long Forestry Consultation. The property consists of multiple cutting units on a 390 acre farm. All of the cutting units are accessible through ridge top fields. The timber consists primarily of white oak, black oak, northern red oak and black walnut. The rest of the timber is in a mix of upland and bottomland timber. Silvicultural Objectives The property was marked to remove over-mature timber and to thin overstocked areas. There are veneer quality white oak and black walnut present in the sale. A map detailing the location of all the marked black walnut is included in the bid packet. All trees were marked with orange paint at breast height and at the stump. All marked trees, including "X" trees, were recorded with a Garmin 76CSx GPS unit to record tree locations. Species specific diameter distributions, waypoints, and GIS shapefiles of the property are available upon request. Please any request to mike@longforestry.com. Volumes were calculated using the Doyle scale, Form Class 78, Mesavage and Girard (1956), 2 inch DBH classes. All volumes are estimated. Long Forestry assumes no responsibility for volume totals. Cultivated fields and adjacent filter strips shall be kept clear by pushing logging debris back into the woods. Debris from bucked logs on the landing shall be piled and left accessible for future firewood cutting. Location: Sec. 14, 15, 22, T8S R3W, Calhoun County, Illinois. (see attached maps and aerials). Turn north and continue on Hwy 96N for 5.2 miles to Belleview. Turn east onto Belleview Hollow Rd. for 1.7 miles to a Y in the road. Veer right for an additional 1.3 miles to the property. Directions to Bid Opening: From the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 67 in Jerseyville, IL, travel east on Highway 16 for 0.3 miles to Curtis St. Turn south onto Curtis St. for 160 feet. Volume figures are net after deducting for defects. Written contract required. 25% down on contract signing and 25% due before harvesting begins. Balance due January 4, Harvestable trees marked with a slash or an X of orange paint on two sides of the tree at DBH and at stump height. Bid only on the 838 trees marked. Bid amounts shall include the 4% timber sale tax to be withheld and submitted to the IDNR. The timber will be sold to the highest bidder considered capable of completing the timber sale contract. Three references required with bid. Valid Illinois timber buyer s license required. Liability insurance required (minimum coverage $1,000,000) for all persons accessing the property regardless of relationship with purchaser or bidder. Bidders must have documented liability insurance during pre-bid inspections through harvest completion. Proof of Insurance shall be provided before or at the contract signing. The owner reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids. Illinois Best Management Practices for installing water bars, broad based dips, and re-seeding of trails, haul roads, and landings shall be followed according to the specifications outlined in said publication.
