2 Page 2 Logging Operations The Poupard Select Harvest block is now complete. Five to eight loads of Spruce were sold to Corewood in Houston, BC. Clear Creek North was active in October, and the last of the timber and pulp from this block was decked until spring. Main Logging pulled as much export as they could. The last of the grappleyarding was completed in the Swanson Creek block. Main pulled off as much export timber as they could from this block. Buckermen at North Beaver Road construction in the North Beaver is now complete. Falling and Hauling is still in progress. Wood is being hauled to Kitwanga and Ridley Island, with a small portion going to Corewood in Houston. There was a high Cedar content in this block, which allowed KVL to sell this wood to their two main vendors Kitwanga and Corewood. Debris piles at Clear Creek South and Rosswood were burned, as per KVL s commitment to bring harvesting blocks to completion. These two blocks were harvested in the summer of There has been some progress regarding the strike at Skeena Sawmills. IWA agreed to end the strike on October 22 nd. However, since this announcement was made, Skeena Sawmills will not open until market prices improve. i.e. a lower dollar value and a higher demand in the US for Canadian lumber. Skeena Sawmills has, however, purchased pulp wood from licensees as they will be starting a chipping shift at their mill. KVL was able to offload pulp wood from the Rosswood block. Lyle Bolton and David Bohn at North Beaver Harvesting blocks for next year have been engineered and cruised. Wood has been identified in the Big Cedar drainage, Sand Lake, and the South Anweiler areas. Cutting permits have been sent to Ministry of Forests and Range, and should be approved in the New Year. Harvesting could start in late January or early February An option of selling domestic wood to A&A Trading may become a possibility due to mill shutdown. Other markets have been pursued in order for KVL to sell domestic saw logs. Loader on Landing North Beaver Block James and Ricky Bohn Bucking at North Beaver

5 Page 5 Recreation Site Maintenance The recreation site maintenance crew is now finished for the year. KVL wrapped up their contract with BCTS in late October. KVL will be bidding on this contract again next year to maintain the local recreation sites. The MOF and BCTS were very satisfied with KVL s recreation site crew. Forest Tenure KVL met with Provincial Forest Minister Rich Coleman in order to get the process started in obtaining a new license. The meeting was successful in that the minister has mandated the local Forest District office to commence communications with KVL. Discussions with local MOF staff have begun. Pine Beetle Probing Course Two band members attended a Pine Beetle Probing course with the intent of monitoring the Mountain Pine Beetle within Kitsumkalum s traditional territory. Some infested trees have been found in the Terrace area. Meeting with Crew at North Beaver Loader at North Beaver
