2 Project Title: Help 100 Women to Earn a Leaving in Budongo Forest. Project Summary; The project is targeting 100 vulnerable women who live in Budongo forest. It will procure and distribute 100 beehives, establish honey business hubs for Budongo community. MICOD will train 100 women in beekeeping, honey processing and entrepreneurship development skills. This will be formed into two women groups and support them with honey production technologies, honey processing, wax and candles production, build honey collection Centre for women and establish a model tree nursery bed. Theme: Economic Development. Create a sustainable livelihood options for 100 women living around Budongo forest as an alternative income for their families. Funding amount; the project will cost a total budget of $ 19,760 Budget description; The project will support the following activities 1. Establishment and management of a model Tree Nursery Bed at $ Purchase and distribution of 100 Bee Hives at a cost of $30 each amounting to $3, Conduct training for 100 women in bee keeping and processing for 3 days costing $10 each trainee per day amounting to $ 3, Procure and distribute honey processing & packaging materials for 2 women groups two for Biiso and the other two for Budongo sub counties costing $1,000 each amounting to $2, Conduct 2 day training for 100 women in entrepreneurship development costing $10 each per day amounting to $ 2, Establishment and construction of a Honey Collection Centre house at Biiso Trading Centre worth $5, Cover Administration costs including fuel, stationery, coordination and stakeholders mobilization amounting to $1, Community mobilization, Project orientation and launch to 150 people each costing $10 totaling to a total cost of $750.

Procure project assets like motorcycle for coordination, computers, and furniture for project management team at a cost of $1350 State the problem; Families living in Budongo Forest, derive their livelihoods from the forest. According to local authorities, over 348 women earn a living from harvesting firewood, honey, timber or herbs from Budongo forest. At least 1 woman alleges to be sexually harassed or raped every month. As such, forest encroachment for livelihood reasons has increased. If no use of the forest by the communities, will cause starvation, human suffering, increase poverty and raise tension between the forest agencies. How will this project solve the problem? MICOD will create an alternative sustainable livelihood project for 100 women clustered to work in 2 groups and this, will enhance alternative sources of income through honey production and empower these women with production and marketing skills and also establish tree nursery bed to promote tree planting. These will help reduce pressure on the forest and create alternative income that will enable them develop their families and reduce the risks they encounter when encroaching on the forest. Potential Long-Term Impact; 100 women and their families will be empowered with skills, making them sustainably able to live a better & dignified life. 2 women groups of 50 will become reliable producers of honey. The project will also empower the groups to continue empowering other women in their communities hence poverty reduced. The established of the tree nursery bed, will support the tree planting that will form a set of woodlots at a household s levels hence reducing pressure on the forest and its associated risks.
