During the construction process, it is expected that 2 trees require removal, 2 trees require a permit to injure and the remaining permit-sized trees will be fully protected. This arborist report and attached protection plan is based on the assumption that no additional trees will be injured or removed. Trees with diameters of 20cm or more, situated on private property on the subject site. 2. Trees with diameters of 20cm or more, situated on private property, within 6m of subject site. 3. Trees of all diameters situated on City owned parkland within 6m of subject site. IMPACT TO EXISTING TREES Tree #1 is located on neighbouring city property in the south-west corner of the front yard of 20 Uplands Ave. The proposed construction of a new driveway will encroach as close as 3.0m from the base of the tree, which will cause a loss of approximately 15% of its tree protection zone (TPZ). If the recommendations are adhered to, we expect the tree to tolerate the injury. Trees #2 and 14 are located on private property in the front yard and back yard of 20 Uplands Ave. The subject trees are in the footprint of the proposed construction of a new two-storey dwelling and new driveway. Neither of these trees will be able to tolerate the injury and therefore they must be removed to facilitate the proposed work. Tree #3 is located on private property in the front yard of 20 Uplands Ave. The proposed construction of a new driveway will encroach as close as 2.8m from the base of the tree, which will cause a loss of approximately 7% of its tree protection zone (TPZ). However, to accommodate the working zone, the construction will encroach as close as 2.5m from the base of the tree, which will cause a loss of approximately 10% of its tree protection zone (TPZ). If the recommendations are adhered to, we expect the tree to tolerate the injury. Trees #8-13 are located are located on the north side of the backyard of 20 Uplands Ave. Tree #8 on neighbouring private property and Trees #9-13 are located on private property. The demolition of existing one-storey dwelling followed by the construction of a new two-storey dwelling will not encroach into their Tree Protection Zone (TPZ). If the recommendations are adhered to, we expect no impact to the trees. Tree #15 is located on neighbouring city property in the south-east corner of the front yard of 20 Uplands Ave. The proposed demolition of the existing driveway and the construction of a new driveway will not encroach into its tree protection zone (TPZ). If the recommendations are adhered to, we expect no damages to the tree.

3 Trees #16-17 are located on neighbouring private property along the south-east side of 20 Uplands Ave. The proposed demolition of the existing driveway and the construction of a new driveway will not encroach into its tree protection zone (TPZ). If the recommendations are adhered to, we expect no impact to the trees. RECOMMENDATIONS Construction is required within the TPZ of Tree #1 and 3; hoarding will extend as far as the property line permits and no workers or materials are to be placed within the hoarding. Hoarding for Tree #3 will be erected once Tree #2 has been removed to encompass as much of its TPZ as possible. Excavation work may be required for the installation of a new driveway in the TPZ of Tree #1. Based on the Tree Protection Plan, it is expected that no large roots will be encountered from the tree. If any large roots are encountered from the excavation, the roots are to be pruned back by a qualified arborist to remove any tear damage. Hoarding for Tree #15-17 will act as a precaution against possible compaction damage and will extend as far as the property line permits. Hoarding must be installed by a qualified contractor and put in place as accurately as possible using the scale plan as the reference. It must conform to the recommendation put forth by the City of Vaughan and recommendations within this report. All the protective fencing must be maintained throughout the construction project and its removal must be approved by the Forestry planner. All hoarding must be installed before demolition or construction commences and approved by the Forestry planner. The TPZ is established on construction sites to help protect the trees from Alteration of existing grades Changes in grade by excavating and scraping Movement of construction vehicles and people Disposal of foreign materials Storage of waste of construction materials The tree protection barriers can be constructed from: 4ft. high plywood hoarding that can be lowered around limbs, with the supports on the outside 4ft. high orange plastic snow fence on a 2 X 4 frame work, this is recommended were visibility is an issue This is recommended for city trees If fill or excavates are going to be placed near the plastic fence a plywood barrier must be used to stop these materials from entering the TPZ. For more information on the construction of a tree protection zone please see the City of Vaughan s forestry s web site and go to By-laws and Policies. Tree protection signage: This sign will be mounted on each TPZ, and should be a minimum of 40cm x 60cm and made on white gator board. The sign must say in bold letters as a heading: Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) the rest of the text is as follows: No grade changes, storage of materials or equipment is permitted within this TPZ. Tree protection barriers must not be removed without written authorization of the City of Vaughan, Forestry Department. For info call Forestry Department at (905) or the project consultant at Implementation of protection: All TPZ must be erected before any type of construction commences on the subject site. Before construction begins the TPZ must be inspected by city forestry staff and the consulting arborist. Before any digging commences around a tree subject to injury by permit, the consulting arborist must be informed. To dig near a tree subject to injury by permit the consulting arborist must be on site to supervise the excavation. Hoarding cannot be removed until all construction is finished

4 REPLACEMENT PLANTING As required by the City of Vaughan the tree replacement ratio is 1:1 for each tree removed. For the loss of 1 permit-sized private tree, one tree at 50mm in caliper size is required to be planted on the property. For the removal of 2 permit-sized private trees, 2 replacement trees are required. We recommend two 50mm London Plane trees (Platanus x acerifolia) as a replacement, please see the plan provided for their locations. SUMMARY 20 Uplands Ave. is proposing to undergo demolition of the existing one-storey dwelling and driveway and the construction of a new two-storey dwelling, driveway, and walkout in the coming months. To facilitate the proposed work, 2 trees require a permit for removal and 2 trees require a permit for injury, resulting in a loss of approximately 15% of the total canopy cover; the remaining permit-sized trees will be fully protected. If there are any questions please contact me at Thank you, c/o Elissa Chu Humber Certified Mike Spencley ON-1379A Central Tree Care Ltd.
