3 OUR ROOTS Four Counties Tree Specialists was set up by Roger Lander who started his career in arboriculture and forestry in 1990, attending De Montfort University where he studied a National Diploma in Arboriculture and was student of the year. Roger believes that the best form of advertising is via word of mouth and the team work hard to ensure each job has a highly satisfied customer who is likely to recommend us to others. We have a wide client base with clients from both the domestic and commercial sector. We are also an approved contractor for local council contracts. 4 TREE SURGERY Four Counties Tree Specialists are able to offer the full range of tree surgery procedures. We are compliant with British Standard BS3998 guide for tree works. Addressing health and safety issues has become an increasingly important aspect of modern life and one which presents a particular worry to employers and property owners. We can undertake site specific risk assessments which are supported by our own Health and Safety policy and evidence of staff training and regulatory compliance. We undertake tree work for local authorities, facilities management agents, housing associations, developers etc. The glossary below includes useful explanations of the work we undertake. Crown Reduction: The necessary reduction of the overall size of the tree whilst retaining its natural shape. Crown Thinning: Reducing the density of the foliage of the tree. This will allow more light through, reduce wind resistance and can make the tree look generally tidier. Crown Lifting: Raising the level of the crown to a specified height by the removal of the lower branches. Dead Wooding: Removal of all dead, diseased or dying wood from within the crown. Sectional Felling: Reducing the tree in manageable pieces, in a controlled manner to a height where the trunk can be safely felled. Side Pruning: Removal of the side branches of the tree to a suitable growth point. Felling: Dropping of the tree as a whole, only carried out with the aid of winches. Tree Surveys and Reports: We offer a comprehensive service of reports and surveys. 5 WOODLAND MANAGEMENT Woodlands are actively managed for a number of reasons. These include maximising the yield of economically important products such as timber and game, as well as for the conservation and biodiversity benefits. Recreational access is also becoming increasingly important. Whether it is large woodlands or urban forestry fringes Four Counties Tree Specialists have the knowledge and experience necessary to carefully manage these in order to achieve the desired outcomes. We understand the commercial and environmental contribution made by different species of trees and are able to offer expert recommendations. Our woodland management services extend from planning and planting to selective removal, coppicing and harvesting. Many of our clients use us for on-going woodland management and we can suggest an appropriate schedule of works for each site if required. Our wide range of equipment and technical expertise means that we can get the job done efficiently and safely. We are skilled at low-impact working on environmentally sensitive sites and we can process the cut timber if required. 6 UTILITY VEGETATION MANAGEMENT Working within highly regulated industries, we have undertaken power line and railway line vegetation clearance since We have specialised equipment and the necessary training needed for this potentially dangerous work. All staff hold multiple utility arboriculture and Network Rail safety qualifications. We have excellent safety and environmental policies and procedures in place to help ensure our work is completed to a very high standard. Utility Arboriculture Different energy companies have a variety of methods in the way they cut and manage their tree infestation problems. We have repeatedly proven our ability to deliver a compliant safe job in a cost effective way. The expertise and knowledge we have acquired means that we can clear trees with minimum disruption for both the public and the client. We have our own shutdown team, with earthing capabilities and are permit holders from LV up to 400kv. We also have our own survey and permission team which allows us a greater flexibility in the way we can approach the work. Network Rail Four Counties Tree Specialists have vast experience and knowledge to give our client the confidence that we have the ability to undertake major tree works within the confines of Network Rails infrastructure. We undertake all aspects of de-vegetation including spraying, flail strip clearance, full leaf fall clearance and dead, dying and dangerous trees. We have our own lighting equipment so we can work day or night. Our staff have all competences including PTS, Look Out, COSS, Machine Controllers and Operators. The equipment we operate means we can undertake virtually any site from more conventional machines for larger sites, to vari track chippers with winches to access difficult terrain, and compact forwarders which can access sites at 1.8 metres carrying 3 tons.
