4 Research programme at SLU and Skogforsk Cornerstones: Make use of others good ideas and knowledge - By operational tools knowledge and research results are put into practice See the whole picture, not a fragmented view on the forest - Environmental and forest production analyses were typically done separately Long term analyses for specific geographical areas - Management actions in a specific setting in contrast to rules of thumb Analysis and planning tools are demanded - Outdated systems, new knowledge available

5 Heureka today Several software for analyses and planning Three software handling forest dynamics - stands, holdings/landscapes, regions - simulation and optimization - several types of input data (forest information) One softdware for multi-criteria decision making - PC and web-based - participatory planning All software freely available

7 Use of the system Users: All large forest companies in Sweden for their strategic but also for tactical planning Consultans: management plans for medium sized forest holdings Research Environmental assessment ( FIA 2015 ) Teaching Sweden: 1000 forest holdings larger than 1000 ha!

Apply a goal oriented management. Owner of Bordsjö forests The analysis planning system is a demanded tool - Analyses within the forest, the environmental and the energy sectors

14 Maintenance and further development Maintenance: To be considered on an early stage The system and knowledge on individual models in hands of a few persons Further development: Short term: development driven by users Long term: it s really a long-term endeavour!
