3 Reasons for change detected in 2011 Assessment Changes reported in current assessment which have been validated through ground truthing of selected sample points in the field, are mainly due to plantation activities and regeneration of forests owing to protection measures taken by the SFD. The change matrix reveals that there has been an increase of 18 km2 in the moderately dense forest and 65 km2 in open forest whereas there is no change reported in the very dense category.
